We've noticed that many production organizations don't set either an
organization description or profile picture, even large open source
organizations that could definitely take advantage of this feature.
This adds a top-of-page banner that bugs organization administrators
to add an organization description and profile picture, generally
starting on the second login (as we only do it on page load after
notifications are configured).
Significantly tweaked by tabbott to get the right user experience.
Fixes#14019.
Now if a default stream gets deleted, we just
redraw the table. We always have a small number
of default streams, and the way that we were removing
rows without the actual consent of `list_render` was
really janky (and just a vestige of pre-list-render
code that never got fully ported).
This also makes us consistent with how we handle
added streams (i.e. just call
`update_default_streams_table`).
ASIDE:
Ideally we will update `list_render` at some point to
have an API for adding and removing elements. It does
allow you now to call `data()` to reset its data, but
for now we just build a new `list_render` object every
time.
Original email address is shown to admin users in subscriber list when
email_address_visibilty is set to "Admins only" by passing delivery_email
at required places. Email address are not shown to non-admin users when
visibility is set to "Admins only".
Tweaked by tabbott to fix a few bugs and dead code.
Fixes a part of #13541.
This follows the convention of other code calling into
add_sub_to_table of checking whether the stream settings overlay is
open (and thus in the DOM) before trying to rerender it.
We add these two functions to the API,
so that we no longer have `alert_words_ui`
using private data from `alert_word`:
alert_words.has_alert_word()
alert_words.get_word_list()
And to initialize the data, we have a proper
`initialize` method that is passed in only
the parameters that it needs from `ui_init`.
(We also move the step of deleting `alert_words`
from `page_params` to the `ui_init` module.)
Because it's a bit less cumbersome to initialize
`alert_words`, we now just it directly in the
node tests for `alert_words_ui`.
This name was misleading, because we weren't
actually setting realm_filters (that's what
`page_params.realm_filters = realm_filters`
is for); we were instead updating our
realm filter rules.
We now treat util like a leaf module and
use "require" to import it everywhere it's used.
An earlier version of this commit moved
util into our "shared" library, but we
decided to wait on that. Once we're ready
to do that, we should only need to do a
simple search/replace on various
require/zrequire statements plus a small
tweak to one of the custom linter checks.
It turns out we don't really need util.js
for our most immediate code-sharing goal,
which is to reuse our markdown code on
mobile. There's a little bit of cleanup
still remaining to break the dependency,
but it's minor.
The util module still calls the global
blueslip module in one place, but that
code is about to be removed in the next
few commits.
I am pretty confident that once we start
sharing things like the typeahead code
more aggressively, we'll start having
dependencies on util. The module is barely
more than 300 lines long, so we'll probably
just move the whole thing into shared
rather than break it apart. Also, we
can continue to nibble away at the
cruftier parts of the module.
Calling `set_filter_out_inactives` is expensive, since we
count up the number of subscribed streams, which iterates
through all your streams, creates a new list of subscribed
streams, then counts them.
In my dev setup, I created 700 streams, and this shaved
about 700ms off of the initial call to `build_stream_list`.
This commit was originally automatically generated using `tools/lint
--only=eslint --fix`. It was then modified by tabbott to contain only
changes to a set of files that are unlikely to result in significant
merge conflicts with any open pull request, excluding about 20 files.
His plan is to merge the remaining changes with more precise care,
potentially involving merging parts of conflicting pull requests
before running the `eslint --fix` operation.

There was a bug where the success banner stuck
around even after the export completed. We now
nicely fade and remove the banner upon a successful
population of the export in the table.
Fixes: #13045
Rename notification property `enable_stream_sounds` to
`enable_stream_audible_notifications` to match with other
notification property patterns.
Fixes part of #12304
This adds a setting to control Zulip's default behavior of sorting to
bottom and graying out inactive streams. The previous logic is still
the default "automatic", but this gives users more control. See the
models.py comment for details.
Fixes#11524.
This commit replaces the `create_stream_by_admins_only` setting with a
new `create_stream_policy` setting, which mirroring the structure of
the existing `invite_to_stream_policy`.
This is important preparation for migrating the waiting period feature
to be its own independent setting.
Fixes#12236.
This commit creates a new organization setting that determines whether
a user can invite other users to streams. Previously this was linked
to the waiting period threshold, but this was both not documented and
overly limiting.
With significant tweaks by tabbott to change the database model to not
involve two threshhold fields, edit the tests, etc.
This requires follow-up work to make the create stream policy setting
work how this code implies it should.
Fixes#12042.
The stubs here were kind of unnecessary, as the
real people module is lightweight and data setup
is pretty easy.
In passing I also removed the unnecessary `sed`
abbreviation.
We are trying to carve room for a more specific
"user_status" concept, which refers to statuses
that users specifically set, like "I'm away".
So we call this function "update_presence_info",
which reflects that it's more about actual
"presence"--i.e. the user really is present
in the browser, even though the actual human
may not want to be disturbed.
We move remove_deactivated_user_from_all_streams
into stream_events.js. There were some minor changes
to rename variables and also to not rely on using
`stream_info`.
In 47aaa73f96, we fixed one issue, which
is that server_events_dispatch.js was calling `update_starred` with
the wrong arguments, but created a new one (toggle_starred wasn't
updated) and missed another (which is that we weren't ever updating
message.starred, and thus if you toggle a message's star-state in one
browser, and then tried to toggle it back in a second, it would feel
like the click didn't work, because it was trying to toggle
e.g. off->on a second time).
This renames Realm.restricted_to_domain field to
emails_restricted_to_domains, for greater clarity as to what it does
just from seeing the setting name, without having to look it up.
Fixes part of #10042.
The function `settings_account.add_custom_profile_fields_to_settings`
called twice, which resulted in two templates objects being
rendered.
The function also didn't check whether settings overlay was open or
not when processing new events, and thus would throw an "undefined"
error if a custom profile field was editing while the overlay was not
open.
Fixes#9668.
This is preparation for our migration of our JS pipeline to webpack,
which includes as part of the process a hack of exporting globals via
the window object.
Currently, stream subscriptions aren't getting updated without
hard reload when user is deactivated in realm.
Fix this issue by updating stream subscription widgets on user
deactivation event.
Fixes#5623
Fixes#8965.
Mark_message(s)_as_read is used in marking a message as having been
read by the browser, rename it to notify_server_message(s)_read to
avoid any confusion.
Fixes#8853.
In certain cases, the browser is not able to look up the message.
Include the recipient data for the message in the delete_message event,
so look up of those attributes by the browser isn't required.
Replace mark_message_as_read with process_read_messages_event as the
latter function is only correct for marking a message as having been
read by this browser.
In our new system for updating realm settings, we don't need to create
separate functions to update the input elements for each feature.
Most of the work is done automatically by
`settings_org.sync_realm_settings`.
Now that we have support for displaying custom profile fields, this
adds administrator-level support for creating them.
Tweaked by tabbott to fix a few small bugs and clean up the commit message.
Fixes#1760.
Rename `toggle_allow_message_editing_pencil` to
`update_message_topic_editing_pencil` in `settings_org.js`.
As this function update the pencil icon for updating message
topic in message row header.
Add `translate_emoticons` to `prop_types` and `expected_keys`.
Furthermore, create a emoji-translating Markdown inline pattern.
Also use a JavaScript version of `translate_emoticons` and then use
this function during Markdown previews and as a preprocessor. This
is only needed for previews, because usually emoticon translation
happens on the backend after sending.
Add tests for emoticon translation, a settings UI, and a /help/ page
as well.
Tweaked by tabbott to fix various test failurse as well as how this
handles whitespace, requiring emoticons to not have adjacent
characters.
Fixes#1768.
This is done by using a bot's ID instead of email in
the handler methods for bot_data.bots and bot_data.services,
and updating all code paths involved.
This commit adds a setting to limit creation of generic bots
to admins for realms that want that restriction. (Generic
bots, apart from being considered spammy on some realms,
have less locked down permissions than webhook bots).
Fixes#7066.
We no longer have a special UI setting and model
field ("emoji_alt_code") for saying users want text-only
emojis. We now instead make "text" be a fifth choice
for "emojiset".
Fixes#7406
We continue to have page_params.realm_default_streams, but
now we do lookups on whether a stream is a default stream
by using a Dict indexed by stream_id.
We are also careful to update that during live updates.
This fixes a flaw that we weren't updating the list of realms
correctly for events that remove a default stream.
In both cases, `args` is a local variable that goes out of scope
immediately after the assignment. Since the variable isn't captured by
a closure either, the assignment has no effect.
This fixes a confusing bug where administrators would be offered the
convenient topic-edit pencil even if message editing was actually
disabled.
This doesn't yet fix the real-time sync issues of changing the setting
without reloading.
Fixes#5946.
The new method borrows some code from the event loop
and unread_ops.mark_messages_as_read, and it is now
flexible about message_ids being marked as unread
even when there is no corresponding message in the
message store. For that scenario we still want to
update our data structures, which wasn't happening
before this change. (Generally, this was a non-issue
up until now, but it will become a bigger issue when
we start loading unread message ids from the server.)
This system hasn't been in active use for several years, and had some
problems with it's design. So it makes sense to just remove it to declutter
the codebase.
Fixes#5655.
The dispatch.js tests now no longer go through server_events.js,
so the tests are isolated from some of the setup you have to
do for the main event loop. They now directly call into
server_events_dispatch.js.
Add `remove_alert_word()` function which uses the correct data flow
while removing an alert word.
`alert_words_ui.js` was structured differently from most of the other
settings. It was not using the triggers from the server for running
the success/failure handlers.
* reset the emoji popover in case of an event
regarding update of realm_emoji.
* test-node-with-js: Add dependency - popovers module;
In dispath.js to support popovers object.
Stub the blueslip module to print a nicely formatted traceback.
Earlier the traceback used to be only a `ReferenceError` because
blueslip was not stubbed.
Fixes: #4021.
The function with_overrides() uses the logic from the old
run() function in dispatch.js to allow you to call a test
function and override parts of the global namespace only
for the duration of when test_function runs.
We now pass in function names as 'foo.bar', which is a bit
easier to type/read/grep, rather than passing the module name
and function name individually.
We pass in sub instead of stream_name, to support callers that
already do lookups by stream id.
And then we make the second optional argument be subscribers, since
that is all we were using from the old `attrs` argument.
If we get invalid events related to stream subscribers, we now
exit earlier to prevent ugly tracebacks. We may eventually
want to upgrade some of these warnings to errors, once we fix some
of our live-update bugs. In particular, we don't yet live-update
users when streams go from private to public, so if you add/remove
subscribers to a newly-public stream that a user still thinks is
private, they will not be able to handle the event through no
fault of the codepath that happens during the add/remove.
This currently only supports this in emoji reactions, not in actual
emoji in message bodies, but it's a great start for people who want a
text-only view.
Tweaked to update the text by tabbott.
Fixes#3169.
I noticed while reviewing #3807 that we still haven't fixed this;
because timestamps are primarily displayed in the message view, fixing
this is trivial.
Add neccesary UI in #administration and #settings for
changing the bot owner. The bot owner select control
is rendered dynamically in order to avoid performance
issues in case of large number of users.
Fixes: #2719.
For our user administration, we now primarily work with user ids
that get put into data-user-id attributes. We still put emails in the
tags to make our Casper tests easy to maintain.
This requires a minor change to the back end to pass down user ids
for the /users endpoint (in get_members_backend).
If we get a realm_user update for a user that is **not**
changing their full name, we no longer call
admin.update_user_full_name().
This was probably a fairly minor bug.
This commit changes people.remove() to be people.deactivate(),
and it fixes a bug where deactivating users was causing tracebacks
in the PM list if somebody had PM'ed the deactivated user
recently.
* In most cases, eslint --fix with the right comma-dangle settings was
able to update the code correctly.
* The exceptions were cases where the parser incorrectly treated the
arguments to functions like `assert_equal` as arguments; we fixed
these manually. Since this is test code, we can be reasonably
confident that just fixing the failures suffices to correct any bugs
introduced by making changes automatically.
