Earlier, the primary modal button always turned grey on being disabled,
while other modal buttons remained as is in light mode, and grey in dark
mode. Now the styling is made consistent across all modal buttons, by
giving them all 50% opacity when disabled.
So far, the Send buttons area would turn grey when the message could not
be sent. The Save button when editing a message would also turn grey
when the message could not be edited anymore. Now we simply make the
buttons half opaque instead of turning them grey in a disabled state.
We change the background colors for the close / cancel / exit buttons
in modals and messages (when editing them or viewing their source). The
border is also removed for those buttons in messages.
When viewing the source of a message when not editable, the opacity of
the read-only textarea would be reduced to 0.5, like for any other read-
only textarea in dark mode. This was unnecessary for viewing message
source, so the opacity for this case is now set to 1.

In spectator mode, the separators encapsulating the topic visibility
switcher wasn't being hidden since the `hidden-for-spectators` class
was being applied only to the `popover-menu-inner-list-item` element.
As a follow-up commit to c3e4358, this removes the additional
separator by shifting the `hidden-for-spectators` class to the
`popover-menu-outer-list-item` element instead, which is responsible
for showing the separators.
We could have added a new function that would return early on the
first property that changed instead of using
`populate_data_for_request`. But we would still need to fetch
`field_data` in most cases. Using `populate_data_for_request` will
keep things simple and readable while the performance difference
should be negligible.
Fixes#29750.
- We introduced an argument called `custom_profile_field` similar to
`sub` and `group` in `check_property_changed` and
`populate_data_for_request`.
- We could've introduced `field` param in `get_input_element_value`,
but I've kept it clean since it didn't have any similar kind of data input.
The performance difference due to this should be negligible.
- Introduced a span that would be parent to all `field_data` params
since it is needed by the diff infrastructure.
- If there is no data to be changed, we display our success status
without sending the PATCH request since save changed button is
always enabled.
This is a preparatory refactor since we need to use this function in
settings_components.ts which is a typescript file. Although the
original file seemed like the best destination for this function,
settings_components.ts seems like the second best destination.
Do not send unnecessary extra params when changing the value of

`callback_after_render` was not being called when `render` did
an early return which caused "load more" to not be updated.
This is noticeable now since we are doing fewer calls to
`process_messages` which also updates the `load more` banner.
In narrow.activate, the adjusted_terms_if_moved helper uses the
raw terms from the URL for checking if a message was moved. If a
non-canoncial operator was in the URL for a narrow (e.g. "subject"
instead of "topic" and now "stream" instead of "channel"), then
the view wasn't updated correctly.
Update adjusted_terms_if_moved to use the canonical version of the
operator in the URL when adjusting the message history.
On creating a stream, instead of being redirected to the topic
`stream events` of the newly created stream, the user is only
redirected to the newly created stream, to avoid translation
issues with this topic name. The topic `stream events`
will not be present if the realm language is not English.
Important changes in this commit:
* We only cache message list for "Combined feed" if it is the
default view.
* We modify existing handling of home message list code so that
it can be used to for any message list that we want to cache
using a new `preserve_rendered_state` variable.
* narrow_state.filter() returns the filter of combined feed view list
instead of `undefined`.
* We start fetching messages from the latest message on app load.
* Messages in all messages data and Recent view are always synced.
* If combined feed view list is not cached, we don't track it's
last pointer, effectively sending user to the latest unread
message always .
Now we retry 3 times with 10s delays before giving up if on loading
the emoji. Hopefully user will just refresh the page by that time
if the emojis still can't be displayed.
Previously, the stream permissions warning banner failed to hide
after changes to the stream's privacy settings were saved or discarded.
This fix addresses the issue, ensuring the banner behaves as expected
by disappearing when changes to make the stream private are either
saved or discarded.

Change compose_reply_button tooltip logic to show the correct tooltip.
Earlier in organizations where DMs were disabled, a stale tooltip was
being displayed.
Earlier if the user hovered over the compose_reply_button when it was
disabled and switched to a stream in which it was enabled before waiting
for the tooltip delay, the next time the user hovers over the
compose_reply_button the stale disabled tooltip is displayed instead of
the enabled one.
This is fixed by checking if the compose_reply_button is enabled on the
fly while rendering the tooltip via instance.setContent().

"Stream events" field in "Stream details" section uses hardcoded
link for "stream events" topic. This link breaks if the organization
language is set to something other than English and the "stream events"
topic has a translated name. The field also does not handle scenarios
where the organization switched languages and thus "stream events"
topic is in different languages depending on when the stream was created.
Additionaly, we are currently undergoing a major change to rename
"Streams" to "Channels" and as part of this change "stream events" will
be renamed to "channel events". We currently don't have a plan for
linking these together or moving messages to the new topic.
Keeping these points in mind, it is best to remove this field for now.
This expresses the height of the message row without need of
margical margins.
Extending the correct line-height to timestamps also means that
single-line messages will be the height of their combined content

Those corrections mean, too, that .message-time only needs to have
its line-height declared a single place, regardless of context.

The variable `select_stream_id` was assumed to be of type number when
it actually was of type string. A strict equality check was performed later
down in the code between `select_stream_id` and `current_stream_id`
(which is of type number).
This commit converts the variable `select_stream_id` to type number.
This establishes the same 5px bottom margin on all Markdown
elements, which will aid in converting such values to variables
as part of the information-density project.
Because paragraphs have a 3px bottom margin, the 2px top margin
on ordered and unordered lists would collapse into it, for 3px
of space total. So setting 0 on these special selectors has no
effect.
A single call to this function doesn't have a material performance
impact when tested with 20k messages while scrolling in combined feed

give time given render windows.
But calling this in a loop somewhere would be a bad idea.

If the stream does not have a creator, we only show the stream creation
date in creation details.

This is a prep commit to add a .pill-label wrapper around .pill-value

This function now accepts an argument for message content in the

to preserve the behavior for existing callers.
Preparation for #28626
Renamed the function to position_inside_code_block and changed the
parameters to accept a string and number (index), and check if the
position in the string is inside a code block (as per previous logic).
Preparation for #28626.
This could happen e.g. when quote-replying a message,
because we open the composebox before adding the quote
reply content. We need to make sure that we don't restore
a draft when opening the composebox, because otherwise
that draft will be replaced with the quote reply.
This will let us initialize the data before the UI is ready
to be initialized. We'll need to do this in an upcoming commit
where we clear a flag on page load before the reload code
initializes.
If a user starts typing before they see that a draft was restored,
this makes that experience a little smoother by adding some
separation between the old draft and the new text.
Now when the user opens a narrow that has a draft saved for
that particular conversation, the draft will automatically
be restored in the compose box. This will make it easy to
return to a draft after clicking away, and also will make
it less confusing when people close the compose box by
accident. Note that this only restores the draft when
there is a full recipient specified (stream and topic,
or at least one PM recipient).

Fixes#11218 and #17396.
We used to keep the draft, assuming that clearing the composebox
was an accident. Now we want to delete the draft, in preparation

way we expect them to try to delete it.

It's possible that for a given narrow event if we didn't fetch any

update to be `true` when using `newest` anchor and `num_after = 0`.
We forgot to restore the date on sticky header if the header

* Scroll so that sticky header is on the 2nd message.
* Scroll down fast so that to avoid us capturing the sticky header
over the first message.
* Scroll up slowly so to see the group header of the messages have
the date of the second message.

`pill_typeahead`, and possibly other places, call `typeahead_source`
for what were typed as different pill widgets but is actually
all the same combined pill widget that has pills of users, user
groups, and streams. This commit fixes that typing issue in
preparaton for the upcoming conversion of `pill_typeahead` to
TypeScript.
The pill typeahead can have pills of three different types:
user, stream, and user_group. To be able to convert this
module to typescript, we need to add a `type` attribute
to differentiate between them.
This commit also adds a `user_or_mention` type to some
items in the composebox typeahead, because the composebox
typeahead shares some functions with the pill typeahead
and we need to be able to differentiate between the
pill types being passed there.
This doesn't fully add all missing attributes, but it adds ones that
will soon be needed in upcoming commits. Ideally eventually these
objects are full fake User objects with defaults for required
attributes.
For more consistency between the emoji picker and the typeahead, now the
initial emoji list is ordered by categories for the typeahead too.
Tachnically, this means that `emoji_picker.rebuild_catalog` now updates
the typeahead's emoji data with category wise sorted emojis. Compose box
typeahead initialisation does not update the emoji data anymore.
This commit adds an option to the advanced section of
Preferences settings, that would allow users to choose
whether to receive typing notifications from other
users.

When users needed to add a new task in the todo widget, they would type
it in the field at the top, but the task would be appended to the list,
showing up at the very bottom, which can seem unintuitive.
Now the `add-task-bar` is at the bottom of the list, so that when a new
task is added, it'll appear right where it was typed. The task field
would then shift lower.
Uptil now, users could add tasks to a todo widget only after creating
it through the `/todo` command in the compose box.
Users can now add an initial list of tasks using the `/todo` command,
with each task on a new line in the compose box, where the 1st `:`
would separate a task from its (optional) description. Example:
`/todo\nTask1:description1\nTask2 without description`.
Fixes part of #20213.
Users can now name task lists by providing the task list title in the
`/todo` command on the same line. Example: `/todo School Work`. If no
title is provided by the user, "Task list" (which is also the
placeholder) is used as default.
The author of a task list can later edit / update the task list title
in the todo widget, just like the question in the poll widget.
Fixes part of #20213.
The schema now ensures extra data is validated according to the widget
type. This also makes it easier to modify the extra data for any widget
or add new widget types in the future.
Shift-clicking a link on most browsers should open the link in a new window,

which can be a confusing search result for "swe".

Change the way scrolling was implemented by scrolling to the success
message. Done this by calling the scrollIntoView() method with the
success message id, it scrolls the element with id into the visible
area of the browser window.
This way the confirmation banner becomes visible, scrolling the

When a long message is restored from a draft (or scheduled messages),
its end, and the cursor placed there, used to be out of view, giving the
impression that the message was not focused, when it actually was.
This is fixed by always scrolling the cursor into view.
This commit renames "View message source" to "View original message".
The meaning of "original" in this context is very similar to what
source/source code means in software jargon, while being easier to
understand and translate for a non-tech savvy user.
The simplebar core documentation, recommends to not style the element
initalising the simplebar at all and use an inner element instead.
Following the recommendation, we move the max-width property from the
popover tippy options, to the `.simplebar-content` element via the
`--popover-menu-max-width` custom property.
While doing so, we also simplify the max-width to `350px`, since the
responsiveness for smaller screen is already been taked care of in the
shared popover styling.
This prevents the issue where the content overflows and gets hidden
instead of wrapping, when the width of the popover reaches the set
max width (if any).
Following ca9b1060b7, we allow the content of popover menu items to
control the width of the popover.
While using `white-space: nowrap` works, we should instead use the
`max-content` intrinsic sizing so that, if necessary, we can still
provide a `max-width` to the popover which would then force the popover
menu content to wrap.
Added `tippy.js/dist/border.css` along with some custom CSS override,
to add arrows which inherit the border color and width of the popover,
while also supporting all placements.
Also consolidates the CSS styling of the popovers to the `tippy-box`
element, which is the recommended way to theme the element according to
https://atomiks.github.io/tippyjs/v6/themes/#creating-a-theme.
This further helps in unifying the styling of the popover and the arrow,
and prevents inconsistencies such as shadow of the popover being casted
onto the arrows.
We now always show the scrollbar in invite modal body if it is scrollable.
This avoids confusion and makes it clear that some options are out of view.

Previously, when stream settings were updated, without opening the

This is fixed by removing the statement.
Since the type of request_method(AjaxRequestHandler) has
been extended in the previous commit.Consequently the 'data'
field of 'request_method' has to be typed such that it
satisfies this change.
Because request_method's type can also be 'typeof patch' which
does not accept undefined 'data' field, I haved 'omit'-ted
'undefined' from 'data's type in function signature to satisfy
TypeScript.
Now ,in support of the changes I have made to two different function
sign(namely setting_ui.do_settings_change,dialog_widget.submit_api_request)
I am stating some points about data field inside these respective
function signs.
1.settings_ui.do_settings_change: For this 'data' was actually never
undefined. Each function call has a 'data' object passed( with one
or more fields).
2.dialog_widget.submit_api_request: For this case many function calls
actually didn't have 'data' field (ie.'data' was undefined).
BUT,for those cases it was defaulted to '{}'(see function sign).
So effectively 'request_method' didn't recieve an undefined 'data' for
this case too. I have removed the defaulting and passed '{}' in the
function calls for those cases, which effectively does the some job,
but satisfies the type.
For both these cases 'data' field isn't undefined and hence an Omit, for me
makes sense.
Type AjaxRequestHandler is used for typing request methods
(like channel.get, channel.post etc.)Use cases include
'request_method' parameter in settings_ui.do_settings_change
and dialog_widget.submit_api_request.
Problem with the type definition:
The current type definition( ie. 'typeof call' ) satisfies every
'request_method' type EXCEPT channel.patch request.One can notice
the difference b/w 'call' and 'patch' function in channel.ts .
Hence,We need to expand the AjaxRequestHandler type.I have unioned it
with 'typeof patch' is account for the case when 'request_method'parameter
is of type channel.patch.

- The role filter is added to both active and deactivated user
list. The original plan was to introduce a multi select checkbox
dropdown for the roles, but since that component is not ready yet,
we will use the dropdown component for the first iteration.
- To accomodate multiple filters, we have used an approach
similar to the one in recent_view_ui.js where we use dropdown
callback function and on("input") event on text search to set the
filter value in memory. The predicate functions uses these filters.
- We have also changed the default message when there are no
users to show to reflect `filters` instead of `current filter`.
Adds a loading spinner to the message history overlay,

In an unsaved state, when focus is in a textarea or an input of type

needed, triggered via the `change` event.
We set `min-width: 0` on all nested flex containers for pills, not just

This aligns with the comment below of "Compute bottom_whitespace_height
if not provided by caller." I'd change this to do a check for if it's
undefined, instead of checking the type, but I don't understand
enough about `ResizeObserver` to feel confident that this would be
equivalent.
We make the following changes:
- Remove the dm partnership check before calling the comparator passed
by the caller, and instead have the more thorough `compare_by_pms` be
the final tie breaker. This deprioritization of dms fixes the bug where
dm partners would be prioritized even if they had not participated in
a stream conversation over recent senders who are not dm partners.
- Make the passed comparator optional, since the tie breaker is same as
the comparator that was passed so far for dms, and only pass it in case
of a stream conversation.
For the rare case where there is no recent recipient count for a pair of
users when sorting, we now check if either has been a dm conversation
partner ever before.
When user is trying to open a modal after clicking on a button
in a popover, we call popovers.hide_all() before opening the modal
which hides the popover but since the event handler call isn't
finished running yet, we call instance.hide() again resulting in
tippy throwing errors that this could be a memory leak.
We introduce a wrapper function for `instance.hide` which if
the popover/tooltip is visible before hiding it to fix it.
Until "stream" is renamed to "channel" in user facing strings,
when "channel" is selected from the composebox typeahead options,
the "stream" wildcard syntax will be inserted in the message
content instead.
Adds some helper functions to util.ts to initially be used to
check/convert "channel" to "stream" during the rename process,
with the intention of then converting those helpers for the
reverse (check/convert "stream" to "channel") in the final part
of the rename process.

We can fail to load emojiset if browser is unable to connect to

This contains two more complex changes:
- The default versions of sorter and matcher assume that ItemType is a
string. But the Typeahead class works on a generic ItemType and I'm
not aware of a way to assert that this function is only called for
typeaheads with string items. For `matcher`, we can assert that the
items are strings. `sorter` is now a required option instead of an
optional one that could fall back to the default.
- `element` can be either an `input` element or a `contenteditable`
`div`. We distinguish between them using `.is("[contenteditable]"))`
but TypeScript doesn't understand that. So we replaced `this.$element`
with `this.input_element` where `input_element` is an object with the
`$element` and also a `type` specifying which type of element it is
(input or contenteditable).
`final_items` is a list of `ItemType` so it doesn't
make sense to wrap it in `$()`. Intead of creating a
"jquery list of objects", we generate a list of JQuery
objects. I also removed the unused `_index` in the
`map` call.
`this.source` will always be of type `function`,
so we can remove the ternary statement. And `source`
always takes one argument, so we can remove the
second argument.
Previously, "This profile field is required." tooltip was visible on

Earlier when users narrowed to recents or inbox, message_list.current
was updating to last dm row selected for first few filter checks in
'narrow_state' which in turn would set active_user_ids to last dm
row selected. This resulted in DM highlight lingering.
The narrow_state.filter is supposed to return undefined when narrowed
to recents or inbox.
This commit fixes the behaviour by setting 'current' undefined before
filter checks on narrow.

The test data was not the correct representation of submessage's
content field. This caused the zod schema to throw error.
This is a temporary solution and eventually we have to move to an
efficient approach making the test data more representative and
accurate.
Discussion:
https://chat.zulip.org/#narrow/stream/6-frontend/topic/TypeScript.20migration/near/1766122
The 'events' array in 'get_message_events' is made of objects.
Each object has 'data' field which is of type 'any' because
'JSON.parse' returns 'any'. We need to parse it using zod
to add type-safety.
The reason I am parsing the entire array at once is because,
'events' array is made of objects of two different schema; and
the order matters. The first element is of different schema than
the rest.(.tuple().rest() used is for that purpose).
This validates the entire submessage content before it is passed to
'widgetize.ts'.
We need to validate the events array in 'submessage.js' using
zod. One of the schema needed is 'zform_widget_extra_data_schema'
in zform. If we import it inside 'submessage', it creates a
dependency cycle ; zform.js=>transmit.js=>server_events.js=>server_events_dispatch.js.
server_events_dispatch.js=>submessage.js=>zform.js
Hence I have moved the schema inside 'submessage' and imported it
inside 'zform.js'.
We sent entire 'events' array to 'widgetize.activate' and then
removed its first element(using .shift()); instead we should
send only relevant data ie. the entire array after the first element.
This also helps us avoid an extra check in node tests.
This commit refactors code to handle authentication methods
so that we need not update the type returned for
"realm_authentication_methods" by get_property_value

returned by get_property_value for authentication methods and
directly call realm_authentication_methods_to_boolean_dict.

Messages that are not delivered locally like slash command messages,
messages with backend only syntax, etc are processed by
'echo.process_from_server' function.
Earlier, in 'echo.process_from_server' we were clearing out
the local IDs of non-echoed messages and then a check to
set 'sent_by_this_client' based on local_id.
This led to 'sent_by_this_client' incorrectly set to False
as the local_id is already deleted.
This commit fixes the incorrect behavior. We first determine
the 'sent_by_this_client' on the basis of local_id and then
we delete.
This commit updates the code for parsing strings to
numbers to use correct types -
- Number.parseInt and Number.parseFloat take strings
as inputs but we were passing Number objects.
- We were using string as an operator for "*" arithmetic

be helpful when we convert settings_components file to
typescript.
THis commit refactors get_realm_time_limits_in_minutes
code to not convert the setting value to integer and just
keep it string. This change will help us in not defining
the type of the variable as "number | string" when we can
easily use the string values.

There seem to be two different ways of making the unread
marker visible:
(1) `user-with-count` classname on the `user_sidebar_entry`
element, which is added on render and not modified after
render at all.
(2) `hide` classname, which is toggled on the `unread_count`
element in `update_unread_count_in_dom`.
This creates a bug where sometimes the buddy list doesn't
update when messages are marked unread. This actually
doesn't always happen, since if there was an unread marker
that was there on the original render (and then removed
and put back) it will display again.
This commit keeps the `hide` class and removes the
`user-with-count` strategy.
Instead of only checking for visible `a` tags, we should also check
for visible elements with the `tabindex=0` attribute defined. This
allows us to support navigation for other components which we
explicitly set to be tabbable.
This commit introduces a theme switcher feature within the personal
menu popover. The implementation begins with the development of a
tab picker, which has the following features:
* Utilization of radio buttons to emulate the tab picker.
Radio input buttons provides the native way in HTML to select one
value out of a set.
* Support for both horizontal (default) and vertical orientations.
Vertical orientation can be achieved by appending the
`.tab-picker-vertical` class.
* Respects the `prefers-reduced-motion` option set by the user.
Disables the sliding tab animation to improve accessibility.
Additionally, the theme switcher component incorporates error handling
mechanisms. In the event of a server/network error, the tab slider
reverts to the previous theme option after a delay of 500ms. This
behavior visually communicates the occurrence of an error to the user,
improving the UX.
Fixes: #22803.
To increase the discoverability of the possibility of specifying the
language for a code block, we trigger the language typeahead when code
syntax is added using the code formatting button. A blank option is
shown preselected in the typeahead, so that pressing enter will not
mistakenly add a language to the code block.
We only trigger the typeahead on empty opening fences when added by the
button, by setting a state variable to true when adding the syntax using
the button, checking for this state when sourcing languages for the code
typeahead, and then resetting the state variable to false.
Fixes: #29150.
Now we don't hide the typeahead if the focus is back in the input within
150 ms. This is common when using the compose formatting buttons, which
only momentarily take the focus away from the input.
This is a prep commit for the next, to show typeahead on adding code
syntax with the code formatting button.
The inline `format` function defined in `format_text` function` now
returns true if formatting was added rather than removed, else false.
This is a prep commit for the upcoming change to show typeahead on using
the code formatting button to add code formatting to any selected text.
We only expect 'data-tooltip-template-id' to be present if 'tippy_content'
is not valid.Hence, only when 'tippy_content' is undefined, should we create
'$template'.
Uptil now, the `query_matches_string_in_order` function would respect
the order of words in the query string when matching a source string.
This meant that for query "two one", the source string "one two three"
would not be matched.
For more flexibility, a new function, `query_matches_string_in_any_order`,
has been added., which returns true if each word in the query string matches
the prefix of a distinct word in the source string, else it returns false.
The algorithm for computing this is quadratic in terms of the source word
count so can be a little expensive, but it is only currently used for
searching topics in Recent Conversations, where the strings' length is
limited by the max stream / topic name length allowed, so this should be
performant enough for this use case.
Previously, when a stream is deleted and the deleted stream is looked
up in the search bar, then an error is thrown.
This is because, when the StreamSubscription object of the deleted
stream is fetched we try to access its properties - invite_only and
is_web_public, despite it being undefined.
This is fixed by accessing the properties only when the object is not
undefined.
TypeScript does not check that these annotations are consistent with
the given selector strings. We need to ensure that ourselves for
runtime safety.

Note that it does not handle weirder cases, like "one two" and "two

not "one"; this is probably fine in practice.

While they might be useful, it create a potential for elements
that we want to display on wide widths for a setting like
hide user list but was bugged due to a css class like this.
Earlier, the Shift + M shortcut only functioned in messages to
mute/unmute topics in the messages section.
This commit enables the Shift + M shortcut to work in recent
conversations and the inbox. It achieves this by utilizing the
existing function toggle_topic_visibility_policy in user_topics_ui.
The focused row message of the recent_view_ui is passed to mute/unmute the
selected topic in the recent_view_ui, and the same process
is applied to the inbox_ui but the logic of muting/unmuting the topic
is kept in inbox_ui which uses function toggle_topic_visibility_policy
in user_topics_ui.
The function toggle_topic_visibility_policy is called in both
cases based on specific conditions to prevent the shortcut from
affecting other parts of the page, thus avoiding errors.

Replace a separate call to subprocess, starting `node` from scratch,
with an optional standalone node Express service which performs the
rendering. In benchmarking, this reduces the overhead of a KaTeX call
from 120ms to 2.8ms. This is notable because enough calls to KaTeX in
a single message would previously time out the whole message
rendering.
The service is optional because he majority of deployments do not use
enough LaTeX to merit the additional memory usage (60Mb).

This fixes the bug where selecting a topic via keyboard in the compose
recipient area did not update the fade.
The function check_property_changed is called at two places - we
pass elem as HTML object in one call and JQuery object in another.
We should make it consistent and we now pass HTML object in both
the calls as that would be better when we would convert
settings_components file to typescript.
We now pass HTML element to get_input_element_value instead of JQuery
object so that we can easily assert types later when we migrate the
file to typescript.
We use 'get_realm_time_limits_in_minutes' function to get the
value to be put in the custom input element. Previously, we
returned "null" for the case when the setting was set to
"Anytime", but now we instead return an empty string as returning
null created some issues while converting the file to typescript.
There is no change in behavior due to this as in both cases the
input will be empty.
Fixes: #29006
We make the following changes:
* Do not show the typeahead menu when there are no matching topics.
* When the typeahead is not shown, pressing Tab in the topic field
should move the cursor to the compose box.
* When the typeahead is shown, pressing Tab should select the
currently focused option (as it does now), but put the cursor at
the end of the topic, rather than at the beginning.
Whenever the user has text selected within a single message, and uses
the hotkey to quote and reply, this selection will be quoted. In case of
no selection or selection not within a single message, the entirety of
the currently focused message will be quoted like before.
Similarly, when the user selects text within a single message, opens
that message's actions menu, and clicks the "Quote and reply" option,
the selected text will be quoted. In case of no selection or selection
containing any other message/s, the entirety of the message whose menu
was opened will be quoted like before.
When partially quoting a message, it is the markdown version of the
selection that is quoted, hence preserving any formatting. Any other
elements of the message, outside of the content, selected presumably by
accident (like the timestamp or sender name), are ignored.

There is no element with class ".personal" and so this code
is unnecessary. This should have been removed in 87e824d43e
when we changed the code to handle tabs to us
data-stream-section attribute instead of class.
This function was introduced in
99d1c5a1f3 and always has the opposite
value from what its name suggests. It worked OK because the caller
also expected it to have an incorrect value.

just delete the bad code and use that.

The `advanceKeyCodes` option was introduced in #10092.
It included a buggy check for `$.inArray` that returned
a falsey value only when the keycode was the first
element of `advanceKeyCodes`.
Because the only instance of `advanceKeyCodes` right now
is for search and contains only one element, this change
is functionally equivalent.
I confirmed that updater() only returns a string or undefined.
composebox_typeahead.js
- compsebox calls `content_typeahead_selected` which returns the composebox
text content
- stream and PM: implicitly returns undefined
pill_typeahead.js
- implicitly returns undefined
search.js
- narrow_or_search_for_term — returns `get_search_bar_text` or empty string
custom_profile_fields.js, settings_playground.js
- no updater function
If no updater function is provided, then updater returns the
value passed to it, which is
`this.$menu.find(".active").data("typeahead-value")`, which is a string.
All existing typeaheads have values for highlighter that are one
of the following:
* render_search_list_item (a handlebars render function)
* render_typeahead_item which calls a handlebars render function
* another function in typeahead_helper which eventually calls
typeahead_helper
All current definitions of header(), which is renamed to
header_text() in this commit:
composebox_typeahead.js
- `get_header_html` uses `_.escape`
- `render_topic_typeahead_hint` — is a handlebars function
- third typeahead doesn’t have a header function
custom_profile_fields.js, pill_typeahead.js, search.js,
and settings_playground.js have typeaheads, but none of them
have header functions.
This particular codepath is never reached right now,
because set_value is only called when `naturalSearch`
is `true`, and the only instance of `naturalSearch`
isn't for a `contenteditable` field.
But we don't need to use `html()` here because it's
displaying a plain string typeahead option.
Before ES2016, `indexOf` and jQuery's `inArray`
were used more often. They return -1 for a missing
element, and 0 is the only integer that’s falsy, so
-1 is the only integer whose bitwise complement is
falsy. Using bitwise not (~) like this is no longer
common practice and is a lot more confusing to read.
Now that we have `includes` we can use that instead.

Previously we declared the 'focused_recipient' object
with an initial field of 'msg_type' and progressively added
fields by mutating the object(depending on the 'msg_type' ie. 'stream'
or 'private'). This was not TypeScript friendly and the compiler threw.
Now, we first fetch those fields and then create the 'focused_recipient'
object depending on the value of 'msg_type' field.
This callback(initially named 'row_to_id') is part of two different
code paths. For one it refers to 'get_row' function local to
'visible_groups' and for other it refers to 'row_to_id' function
local to 'visible_messages'(same namings cause a confusion and is
also inconsistent).
Here I have renamed the callback to 'row_to_output', this is
more explanatory and consistent with name '_divisible_divs' uses
for the same callback.
This creates a much cleaner API and types for these functions. Since
the callers already had the message objects, this avoids extra work
both in the most callers and in these functions.
We also loop through all_rendered_message_lists rather than hardcoding
logic for message_lists.home.

Fixes#29185.
We were updating the compose banners on every `keyup` event on the
topic input. Since, `keyup` also gets triggered for the modifier and
non-printing keys such as "Enter", this lead to banner for topic
required being closed via the `check_posting_policy_for_compose_box`
when pressing "Enter" to send a message with no topic.
This bug was probably introduced in 5c993f0, which moved additional
logic into `update_on_recipient_change`.
To solve this issue, we use the `input` event instead of the `keyup`
event to update the compose banners only when the value inside the
input element changes.
This change also prevents the the compose banner from being closed
when we only press modifier keys - such as Shift.
Add a word-wrap rule so that longer code elements, such as example
URLs or long return value names in the API documentation, do not
overflow out of the view in narrowed browsers or mobile views.
Only affects zulipchat, by being based on the BILLING_ENABLED setting.
The restricted backends in this commit are
- AzureAD - restricted to Standard plan
- SAML - restricted to Plus plan, although it was already practically
restricted due to requiring server-side configuration to be done by us
This restriction is placed upon **enabling** a backend - so
organizations that already have a backend enabled, will continue to be
able to use it. This allows us to make exceptions and enable a backend
for an org manually via the shell, and to grandfather organizations into
keeping the backend they have been relying on.
Since the html copied from VS Code is not structured as code but as
styled divs for each line, any code copied from it would be pasted
unformatted with blank lines between each line of code.
This has now been fixed, by detecting VS Code style code blocks by the
CSS property `white-space: pre` and pasting the text within as is, as
code.
This commit adds banner which is shown on successful stream
creation which contains a link to stream narrow. This banner
makes it more clear that stream was created successfully and
also makes it easy to navigate to the new stream.
Fixes#29171.
We want to name types/views that are not Stream or Direct related to be
"non-specific". The previously used term "non-stream" could be confusing
since it would literally mean any type/view which is not a stream type/
view, which would encapsulate the Direct type/view also.
Thus, we finally use the following terms to describe the type of
conversation:
1. Stream type (Streams or Topics)
2. Direct type (A)
3. Non specific type (Inbox, Recent conversation, All messages)
This commit fixes the bug, where navigating to inbox view does not
update the closed compose buttons. Due to this the tooltip over the
"Start new conversation" button also showed the wrong content.
In the situation where the DMs are disabled in an organization, we
disable the new conversation button. But due to this, the tooltip
hinting towards the same, was also being disabled because it was
attached to a disabled element which does not fire any events.
This commit fixes this bug, by wrapping the new conversation button
inside a div, and attaching the tooltip to this wrapper instead.
As reported on CZO, the new conversation button sometimes had stale
tooltip content rendered on it. In this commit, we change the logic
used to render this tooltip, to now render the tooltip content on the
fly via `instance.setContent()` which should eliminate any such bug.
Fixes#27158.
This is essential for converting to typescript, because
we can't create half a clean reaction and then calculate
vote_text afterwards. Instead, we should calculate it
with the information we already have, and create the
clean reaction object afterwards, all at once.
When we move to typescript, we want to be able to calculate
this value *before* creating the clean reactions, so that
we can generate the clean reactions in one go instead of
having some half-created object.
On chromium browsers, the scroll position is not restored when the text
in a textarea is replaced. So instead of directly replacing the text,
we call the `insert_and_scroll_into_view` function with `replace_all`
set to true.
We refactor the `insert_and_scroll_into_view` function to accept a new
parameter, `replace_all`, defaulting to false, that when set to `true`,
will replace all existing content of the textarea with the new content,
instead of inserting the new content at the current cursor position.
This is a prep commit for the next commit, which will set this new flag.
