Steve Howell dcffa17e29 test-js-with-node: Simplify failures for --coverage.
When you use nyc, its code instrumentation transforms
the code so that line numbers and columns no longer
make sense, and the long stack trace is likely to cause
more confusion than convenience.

We want to encourage a workflow where you debug your
node tests using the normal (and much quicker mode)
before running `--coverage`.

Dinesh 55b2b1c25d node_tests: Refresh templates.js import for every test.
Translation handlebars helpers were not getting changed when we
mock static/js/i18n.ts and then unmock it in a different test.

We mock i18n.ts for every test except node_tests/i18n.js.
So, running any code that calls the registered handlebar
helpers related to translations before running i18n test
will run the helper functions registered with mocked i18n module.
The subsequent tests too would use those functions registered
with mocked i18n module.

This causes the i18n test to fail as we expect the registered
helpers to use actual i18n.ts instead of a mock if we have
code that would call the registered translation helpers in
tests that run before i18n.

Sahil Batra 06f46cc146 settings: Add live update code for realm-level defaults settings.
This commit adds code for live-updating the realm-level default
settings page which contains only display settings as of now.

This commit also adds realm_user_settings_defaults object to
zpage_params so that we can write the tests.

We add a new user_settings module similar to page_params
module in frontend and use it to access user's personal
settings instead of page_params.

Steve Howell 3d1aae6253 zjsunit: Optionally exercise template code.
If you call mock_template(fn, true), we will
call the actual template code and pass it to your
stub for verification.

We make this opt-in to prevent false positives
on template line coverage.

We special-case our handling of static/js/templates.js,
since it's important that all of our tests have
the Zulip-specific handlers for Handlebars pre-registered.

This runs in roughly the same amount of time as the
previous commit.

Steve Howell e5669f9087 zjsunit: Extract complain_about_unused_mocks.
This is prep toward allowing individual tests
to fail while continuing to run the test suite.

Most of the steps in namespace.finish() could
be put in a `finally` block, but once a test
fails, there's no reason to complain about
unused mocks, since there are bigger things
to address.

Steve Howell 30c7108955 zjsunit: Remove rewiremock dependency.
We now just use a module._load hook to inject
stubs into our code.

For conversion purposes I temporarily maintain
the API of rewiremock, apart from the enable/disable
pieces, but I will make a better wrapper in an
upcoming commit.

We can detect when rewiremock is called after
zrequire now, and I fix all the violations in
this commit, mostly by using override.

We can also detect when a mock is needlessly
created, and I fix all the violations in this
commit.

The one minor nuisance that this commit introduces
is that you can only stub out modules in the Zulip
source tree, which is now static/js. This should
not really be a problem--there are usually better
techniques to deal with third party depenencies.
In the prior commit I show a typical workaround,
which is to create a one-line wrapper in your
test code. It's often the case that you can simply
use override(), as well.

In passing I kill off `reset_modules`, and I
eliminated the second argument to zrequire,
which dates back to pre-es6 days.

Anders Kaseorg 0ca543396a zjsunit: Use clear_zulip_refs as the main way to undo zrequire.
Move clear_zulip_refs into restore, and rewrite it without lodash. We

than a wrapper around require.

Steve Howell 64c7eb67eb zjquery: Make zjquery a singleton.
We no longer export make_zjquery().

We now instead have a singleton zjquery instance
that we attach to global.$ in index.js.

We call $.clear_all_elements() before each module.
(We will soon get even more aggressive about doing
it in run_test.)

Test functions can still override $ with set_global.
A good example of this is copy_and_paste using the
real jquery module.

We no longer exempt $ as a global variable, so
test modules that use the zjquery $ need to do:

    const $ = require("../zjsunit/zjquery");

Anders Kaseorg 89aa3155a9 node_tests: Don’t read from most deprecated global variables.
We still need to write to these globals with set_global because the
code being tested reads from them, but the tests themselves should
never need to read from them.

Steve Howell dc1795a3da node tests: Find files in Python.
The code to run single files was added
in c15695e514,
and it's just kinda strange code.

We already do a lot of file logic in Python
to check for line-coverage, so it's easier
to just have all the logic in Python.

This adds a new feature--you can now specify
the actual file:

    ./tools/test-js-with-node frontend_tests/node_tests/people.js

(This is helpful if you just want to use
shell autocomplete.)

Another minor change is that if you specify
individual files, we won't sort them. This is
important when you're trying to hunt down test
leaks.

Finally, we have a nicer message if we can't find
the file.

Priyank Patel 305a1ac57d node_tests: Don't remove require cache of module in zrequire.
There is good reason to do this (explanation is bit long!). With the
TypeScript migration, and the require and ES6 migrations that come
with it, we use require instead of set_global which loads the entire
module. Suppose we have a util module, which is used by some other
module, say message_store, and util is being required in message_store
since it is removed from window. Then, if a test zrequires
message_store first, and then zrequires the util module qand mocks one
of its methods, it will not be mocked for the message_store
module. The reason is:
 1. zrequire('message_store') leads to require('util').
 2. zrequire('util') removes the util module from cache and it is
reloaded. Now the util module in message_store and the one in
the test will be different and any updates to it in tests won't
be reflected in the actual code.

Which can lead to confusion for folks writing tests. I'll mention this
can be avoided doing zrequire('util') first but...that is not ideal.

And, since there was one outlier test that relied on this behavior,
we add the namespace.reset_module function.
