The mobile app was never able to use the shared
version of emoji.js, because, among other problems
with our code organization, the emoji.js module
is strongly based on a mutate-the-data paradigm
that doesn't play nice with React. The way
that we mutate data and violate encapsuation
here is something that we would mostly want to fix
without even trying to shared code with mobile, so
subsequent commits will try to extract some pure
functions into a shared module.
Previously, once the user opens the "Set user status" UI,
the focus isn't automatically set to the input bar.
This is so because the input field isn't visible at
the time when UI is loaded because of the bootstrap
fade property which delays the event.
Added a fix to trigger the focus event on input bar
only when the modal is completely shown.
Fixes#19417.
In this commit, we update the UI to:
* Display emoji on the buddy list (right side sidebar).
* Display the emoji picker on the set status overlay.
It also updates the `z-index` of
`#set_user_status_modal`, which was changed from 105
to 1050 in 166bfa4cf8. We change it back to 105, so
emoji-popover can be visible on top of the
`#set_user_status_modal`.
We also remove the `tabindex` property from the
`#set_user_status_modal` so it can allow keyboard
events for emoji popover.
This is a prep commit to add the status emoji feature.
We update the templates associated with the emoji
picker to add class `status_emoji` to `emoji` in the
popover. So we can later add the events when the user
selects the emoji.
We also update the functions in `emoji_picker.js` to
support opening emoji picker popover in the 'set_status_
overlay`.
We also increase the `z-index` of the `popover-flex`
class (This class is only added to popover-emoji content
if the view is mobile), so in the mobile view the emoji
popover doesn't go behind the '#set_user_status_modal'.
This also migrates from loading the modal dynamically rather than
statically once at page initialization.
With styling changes by tabbott to preserve the original look of the
UI.

ES and TypeScript modules are strict by default and don’t need this
directive. ESLint will remind us to add it to new CommonJS files and
remove it from ES and TypeScript modules.

Prettier would do this anyway, but it’s separated out for a more
reviewable diff. Generated by ESLint.

This is a common UX pattern for forms - a user would expect the
input to be submitted on hitting enter.
So, create a 'keypress' event listener on the input field for the
new status, which calls 'submit_new_status' on enter key press.
This commit was originally automatically generated using `tools/lint
--only=eslint --fix`. It was then modified by tabbott to contain only
changes to a set of files that are unlikely to result in significant
merge conflicts with any open pull request, excluding about 20 files.
His plan is to merge the remaining changes with more precise care,
potentially involving merging parts of conflicting pull requests
before running the `eslint --fix` operation.

With webpack, variables declared in each file are already file-local
(Global variables need to be explicitly exported), so these IIFEs are
no longer needed.

This adds the same "x" button as we have in "stream search" or "people
search" to the user status modal.
The button is shown if someone types something, or if the status
message was already set (meaning there was already a value in the
input field). If the input field is empty, the button is not visible.
This fixes the follow-up comments from #12179.
Having it say "Clear" when you delete an existing status was a nice touch,
but it's confusing when you first open the modal and the text of the button
says "Clear".
I think the right medium-term solution here is for this modal to have "Save"
and "Cancel" buttons, and for there to be a small UI element in the user
popover itself that allows you to clear your current status.
