Changes all the uses of the word "operators" to "filters" in
contributor docs, help center, and landing page to align with
the updated help center documentation.
Since this is being moved to admin-facing documentation, also adds a
paragraph about the main concern with enabling this on a server that's
not zulip.com.
Inspired by #23377. We document a convention maneuver to avoid adding
noop migrations, which involves modifying the latest migration related
to the fields in question.

We should rearrange Zulip's developer docs to make it easier to
find the documentation that new contributors need.
Name changes
Rename "Code contribution guide" section -> "Contributing to Zulip".
Rename "Contributing to Zulip" page -> "Contributing guide".
Organizational changes to the newly-named "Contributing to Zulip":
Move up "Contributing to Zulip", as the third link in sidebar index.
Move up renamed "Contributing guide" page to the top of this section.
Move up "Zulip code of Conduct", as the second link of this section.
Move down "Licensing", as the last link of this section.
Move "Accessibility" just below "HTML and CSS" in Subsystems section.
Update all links according to the changes above.
Redirects should be added as needed.
Fixes: #22517.
distutils is deprecated in Python 3.10 and will be removed in Python
3.12. We don’t need a full-powered version parser for this anyway.

As a consequence:
• Bump minimum supported Python version to 3.8.
• Move Vagrant environment to Ubuntu 20.04, which has Python 3.8.
• Move CI frontend tests to Ubuntu 20.04.
• Move production build test to Ubuntu 20.04.
• Move 3.4 upgrade test to Ubuntu 20.04.

This uses the myst_heading_anchors option to automatically generate
header anchors and make Sphinx aware of them. See
https://myst-parser.readthedocs.io/en/latest/syntax/optional.html#auto-generated-header-anchors.
Note: to be compatible with GitHub, MyST-Parser uses a slightly
different convention for .md fragment links than .html fragment links
when punctuation is involved. This does not affect the generated
fragment links in the HTML output.

We previously had a convention of redundantly including the directory
in relative links to reduce mistakes when moving content from one file
to another. However, these days we have a broken link checker in
test-documentation, and after #21237, MyST-Parser will check relative
links (including fragments) when you run build-docs.

It seems like orange is the loudest possible color to
denote a quasi-neutral-idle state, so we hope to
replace it with another color.
This commit does not change any styling.
I removed the sentences in the doc, since they are
kind of too vague to be useful. If we want to say that
the idle state is correlated with the half-orange
circles in the buddy list, then we want to say that
more specifically.
Updates the tutorial for writing help center articles to encourage
contributors to add to or enhance the existing help center docs
before writing a new articles for new features.
Also, generally updates references to 'user documentation' to be
'help center documentation'.
Additionally, updates some headers within the tutorials for clarity
and consistency, and adds some linkifying throughout the section on
writing documentation.
As a consequence:
• Bump minimum supported Python version to 3.7.
• Move Vagrant environment to Debian 10, which has Python 3.7.
• Move CI frontend tests to Debian 10.
• Move production build test to Debian 10.

We recently changed /developer-community to /development-community.
Now that this change is in production, we can also migrate the
external links in our ReadTheDocs documentation.
This helps increase the probability that folks read the guidelines for how the
chat.zulip.org community works and what streams to use before arriving there.
Fixes#19827.
Previously, our docs had links to various versions of the Django docs,
eg https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.10/topics/migrations/ and
https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/2.0/ref/signals/#post-save, opening
a link to a doc with an outdated Django version would show a warning
"This document is for an insecure version of Django that is no longer
supported. Please upgrade to a newer release!".
This commit uses a search with the regex
"docs.djangoproject.com/en/([0-9].[0-9]*)/" and replaces all matches
inside the /docs/ folder with "docs.djangoproject.com/en/3.2/".
All the new links in this commit have been generated by the above
replace and each link has then been manually checked to ensure that
(1) the page still exists and has not been moved to a new location
(and it has been found that no page has been moved like this), (2)
that the anchor that we're linking to has not been changed (and it has
been found that this happened once, for https://docs.djangoproject.com
/en/1.8/ref/django-admin/#runserver-port-or-address-port, where
/#runserver-port-or-address-port was changed to /#runserver).
Removes the `/day` and `/night` options from the typeahead menu while
still allowing the commands to be used. Typing `/day` and `/night`
will now suggest `/light` and `/dark`, respectively. Also changes the
`Dark mode` and `Light mode` popups that appear after using the
corresponding command.
Fixes#18318.
Recommonmark is no longer maintained, and MyST-Parser is much more
complete.

`request.client` is no longer valid since the ZulipRequestNotes change.
This update the documentation to reflect that. And it also makes it
recommend `check_send_webhook_message` in favor of
`check_send_stream_message`.
We extracted a bunch of code into the common notification_data.py
module, with a data class managing a lot of the logic; this updates
the documentation to cover that.
Using puppet modules from the puppet forge judiciously will allow us
to simplify the configuration somewhat; this specifically pulls in the
stdlib module, which we were already using parts of.
The old name `push_notify_user_ids` was misleading, because
it does not contain user ids which should be notified for
the current message, but rather user ids who have the online
push notifications setting enabled.
When the Tornado server is restarted during an upgrade, if
server has old events with the `push_notify_user_ids` fields,
the server will throw error after this rename. Hence, we need
to explicitly handle such cases while processing the event.
This makes it parallel with deliver_scheduled_messages, and clarifies
that it is not used for simply sending outgoing emails (e.g. the
`email_senders` queue).
This also renames the supervisor job to match.
Thumbor and tc-aws have been dragging their feet on Python 3 support
for years, and even the alphas and unofficial forks we’ve been running
don’t seem to be maintained anymore. Depending on these projects is
no longer viable for us.

This was used by the old native Zulip Android app
(zulip/zulip-android). That app has been undeveloped for enough years
that we believe it no longer functions; as a result, there's no reason
to keep a prototype API endpoint for it (that we believe never worked).
It does not seem like an official version supporting Webpack 4 (to say
nothing of 5) will be released any time soon, and we can reimplement
it in very little code.

This mainly extracts a new module called
browser_history. It has much fewer dependencies
than hashchange.js, so any modules that just
need the smaller API from browser_history now
have fewer transitive dependencies.
Here are some details:
* Move is_overlay_hash to hash_util.
* Rename hashchange.update_browser_history to
brower_history.update
* Move go_to_location verbatim.
* Remove unused argument for exit_overlay.
* Introduce helper functions:
* old_hash()
* set_hash_before_overlay()
* save_old_hash()
We now have 100% line coverage on the extracted
code.
In the documentation of the "Sending messages," path for the `check_message` and `do_send_message` function is not provided. So, I added the path of both for future contributors.
Go to Recent Topics on "#", no hash and "#recent_topics".
Go to Recent Topics as the last destination for escape key.
Map `a` key to All messages and change its hash to
`#all_messages`.
This document is mainly an answer to a set of questions other
developers have been asking about Zulip's architecture and scalability
design. It's intended for developers working on Zulip, to help with
thinking about where to prioritize further efforts to optimize
scalability.
Steve asked me to remove this, since the tictactoe game was always
intended as a proof of concept. Now that we have poll and todo
widgets, the sample code for tictactoe has much less value.
We replace the content and type in test_widgets.py to maintain
coverage.
