Sumanth V Rao ca7f84ac58 markdown: bugfix: Fix importing pygments data for codeblock header creation.
In c563cdba61 we imported the generated
pygments data from outside `/shared` folder. This had a couple of
problems:
    * Using `require` was the wrong way to do the import in ES6 modules.
    * Since we get the data from outside `/shared`, clients like
zulip-mobile would not receive it - this case had to be handeled.

Here, we fix the above problems by receiving the data when initializing
through fenced_code.initialize, and when the pygments data structure is
empty (for zulip-mobile) we fallback to the old header structure without
the data-code-language tag.

Also, this commit does a small refactor to improve the way we fetch
canonicalized_alias from pygments_data.

Tests amended.

YashRE42 b4891a5841 navbar: Rename tab_bar to message_view_header.
Prior to commit eb4a2b9d4e the center
area of the navbar was based on a structure that appended crumbs or
"tabs" as <li>s, forming a tab_bar and a tab_list.

However, in eb4a2b9d4e we apply a new
style and structure to the navbar which lets go of the convention of
tabs. Hence, we'd like to purge the tab_bar and tab_list labels from
our code base.

We purged tab_list in 1267caf5009118875f47fdafe312880af08024e1.

This commit purges tab_bar, it includes:
- A blanket search and replace of tab_bar with message_view_header.
- Splitting a single line comment in
  tab_bar.js / message_view_header.js.
- The renaming of tab_bar.js to message_view_header.js.
- The renaming of tab_bar.hbs to message_view_header.hbs.
- A blanket search and replace of tab_data with
  message_view_header_data.
- Replacing the single occurrence of tabbar with message_view_header
  (it was within a comment.)

Steve Howell b965766f87 refactor: Call compose_fade without triggers.
We are trying to phase out the trigger-event way
of telling modules to do something.

In this case we not only remove the indirection
of the event handler, but we also get to remove
`compose_fade` from the `ui_init` startup sequence.

This also has us update `compose_fade` outside
the loop, although that's only a theoretical
improvement, since I don't think `peer_add` events
every actually include multiple streams.

To make the dispatch tests a little flatter, I
added a one-line change to zjsunit to add
`make_stub` to `global`.

To manually test:
    * have Aaron reply to Denmark (keep compose box open)
    * have Iago add Hamlet to Denmark
    * have Hamlet unsubscribe

Steve Howell 43e5b2d28b right sidebar: Remove "GROUP PMs" section.
We remove the "GROUP PMs" section that used
to be in the lower right sidebar.

Most of this is straightforward code removal.

A couple quick notes:

    - The message fetching code now just
      calls `huddle_data.process_loaded_messages`,
which we still need for search suggestions.
      We removed `activity.process_loaded_messages`.

    - The `huddle_data.process_loaded_messages`
function no longer needs to return `need_resize`.

    - In `resize.js` we now just calculate
      `res.buddy_list_wrapper_max_height` directly
      from `usable_height`.

Steve Howell 2cd9c77979 refactor: Stop using page_params.realm_default_streams.
We now only use `page_params.realm_default_streams` during
initialization, and then after that we use `stream_data`
APIs to get default stream ids and related info. (And
for the event that replace the data, we just update our
internal data structures as well.)

Long term we should have the server just send us ids here,
since we are now hydrating info from stream data in all places.

Steve Howell 1f156230b0 refactor: Clean up alert_words API.
We add these two functions to the API,
so that we no longer have `alert_words_ui`
using private data from `alert_word`:

    alert_words.has_alert_word()
    alert_words.get_word_list()

And to initialize the data, we have a proper
`initialize` method that is passed in only
the parameters that it needs from `ui_init`.

(We also move the step of deleting `alert_words`
from `page_params` to the `ui_init` module.)

Because it's a bit less cumbersome to initialize
`alert_words`, we now just it directly in the
node tests for `alert_words_ui`.

Steve Howell da79fd206a ui_init: Handle page_params more cleanly.
This cleans up the handoff of page_params
data between ui_init and modules that
take over ownership of page_params-derived
data.

Read the long comment in ui_init for a bit
more context.

Most of this diff is actually test cleanup.
And a lot of the diff to "real" code is
just glorified `s/page_params/params/`
in the `initialize` functions.

One little oddity is that we don't actually
surrender ownership of `page_params.user_id`
to `people.js`. We could plausibly sweep
the rest of the codebase to just use
`people.my_user_id()` consistently, but it's
not a super high priority thing to fix,
since the value never changes.

The stream_data situation is a bit messy,
since we consume `page_params` data in the
initialize() function in addition to the
`params` data we "own". I added a comment
there and intend to follow up. I tried
to mostly avoid the "word soup" by extracting
three locals at the top.

Finally, I don't touch `alert_words` yet,
despite it also doing the delete-page-params-data
dance. The problem is that `alert_words`
doesn't have a proper `initialize()`.  We
should clean that up and have it use a
`Map` internally, too.

Steve Howell b55d2bc256 markdown: Add helper configuration for mobile.
This refactoring is the first step toward sharing
our markdown code with mobile. This focuses on
the Zulip layer, not the underlying third party `marked`
library.

In this commit we do a one-time initialization to
wire up the markdown functions, but after further
discussions with Greg, it might make more sense
to just pass in helpers on every use of markdown
(which is generally only once per sent message).
I'll address that in follow-up commits.

Even though it looks like a pretty invasive change,
you will note that we barely needed to modify the
node tests to make this pass. And we have pretty
decent test coverage here.

All of the places where we used to depend on
other Zulip modules now use helper functions that
any client (e.g. mobile) can configure themselves.
Or course, in the webapp, we configure these from
modules like people/stream_data/hash_util/etc.

Even in places where markdown used to deal directly with
data structures from other modules, we now use functions.
We may revisit this in a future commit, and we might
just pass data directly for certain things.

I decided to keep the helpers data structure completely flat,
so we don't have ugly nested names like
`helpers.emoji.get_emoji_codepoint`. Because of this,
some of the names aren't 1:1, which I think is fine.

For example, we map `user_groups.is_member_of` to
`is_member_of_user_group`.

It's likely that mobile already has different names
for their versions of these functions, so trying for
fake consistency would only help the webapp. In some
cases, I think the webapp functions have names that
could be improved, but we can clean that up in future
commits, and since the names aren't coupled to markdown
itself (i.e. only the config), we will be less
constrained.

It's worth noting that `marked` has an `options`
data structure that it uses for configuration, but
I didn't piggyback onto it, since the `marked`
options are more at the lexing/parsing layer vs.
the app-data layer stuff that our helpers mostly
help with.

Hopefully it's obvious why I just put helpers in
the top-level namespace for the module rather than
passing it around through multiple layers of the
parser.

There were a couple places in markdown where we
were doing awkward `hasOwnProperty` checks for
emoji-related stuff. Now we use the Python
principle of ask-forgiveness-not-permission and
just handle the getters returning falsy data. (It
should be `undefined`, but any falsy value is
unworkable in the places I changed, so I use
the simpler, less brittle form.)

We also break our direct dependency on
`emoji_codes.json` (with some help from the
prior commit).

In one place I rename streamName to stream_name,
fixing up an ancient naming violation that goes
way back to before this code was even extracted
away from echo.js. I didn't bother to split this
out into a separate commit, since 2 of the 4
lines would be immediately re-modified in the
subsequent commit.

Note that we still depend on `fenced_code`
via the global namespace, instead of simply
requiring it directly or injecting it. The
reason I'm postponing any action there is that
we'll have to change things once we move
markdown into a shared library. (The most
likely outcome is that we'll rename/move both files
at the same time and fix the namespace/require
details as part of that commit.)

Also the markdown code still relies on `_` being
available in the global namespace. We aren't
quite ready to share code with mobile yet, but the
underscore dependency should not be problematic,
since mobile already uses underscore to use the
webapp's shared typing_status module.

Steve Howell 0aa9decd86 blueslip: Add feature to time common operations.
This is relatively unobtrusive, and we don't send
anything to the server.

But any user can now enter blueslip.timings in the
console to see a map of how long things take in
milliseconds. We only record one timing per
event label (i.e. the most recent).

It's pretty easy to test this by just clicking
around. For 300 users/streams most things are
fast except for:

    - initialize_everything
    - manage streams (render_subscriptions)

Both do lots of nontrivial work, although
"manage streams" is a bit surprising, since
we're only measuring how long to build the
HTML from the templates (whereas the real
time is probably browser rendering costs).

This simple change switches us to take advantage of the
server-maintained data for the pm_conversations system we implemented
originally for mobile use.

This should make it a lot more convenient to find historical private
message conversations, since one can effectively scroll infinitely
into the history.

We'll need to do some profiling of the backend after this is deployed
in production; it's possible we'll need to add some database indexes,
denormalization, or other optimizations to avoid making loading the
Zulip app significantly slower.

launch the user popup to the right
of the name. (I think this is odd,
but it's consistent with how we
      do it for normal messages.)

The underlying problem here is that you have
two possible organizations.

From a logical standpoint, the image and
name go together (and both launch the user menu):

    img Alice | says hi

From a physical perspective, the main message
is "Alice says hi" and it's aligned differently
from the image:

    img | Alice says hi

Our HTML reflects the latter.

HTML doesn't allow overlapping diffs, of course,
so you have to pick your poison.

Abhinav Singh 99df926ef3 sidebar: Allow users to use sidebar search in mobile browser.
It was impossible to search people in mobile browsers because virtual
keyboard used to fire resize event and the function call that we used

made it impossible to type in the people search bar.

The code in this commit fixes this by simply ignoring the resize
events when the user wants to search.

Steve Howell a4c80089f3 page load: Fix two bugs related to muting/unreads.
The first bug fixed here has been around for a long
time--we were redundantly updating unread counts
indirectly via muting_ui.initialize(). The
unread counts also get updated in
unread_ui.initialize(), when we have more valid
state. (And it's worth noting here that the unread
counts get updated yet again once message fetches
complete.)

The second bug was a very recent regression from
my recent stream name -> stream id cleanup in the
muting system. We now depend on stream_data to
initialize muting data, so we need to initialize
muting.js slightly later in the process.

These fixes are intertwined, because they were both
somewhat caused by the anti-pattern of having
muting_ui.js initialize unread_ui.js and muting.js,
instead of doing more direct, fine-grained initialization
from ui_init.js.

Essentially we replace this code:

    exports.update_muted_topics = function (muted_topics) {
        muting.set_muted_topics(muted_topics);
        unread_ui.update_unread_counts();
    };

with this:

    exports.initialize = function () {
        exports.set_muted_topics(page_params.muted_topics);
    };

And the modules load like this:

    stream_data
    ...
    muting
    ...
    unread_ui

And we don't need any page-load initialization for muting_ui,
which is mostly used for Settings/Muted topics.

Steve Howell 625388ccf0 refactor: Call stream_data.initialize() more directly.
This function used to be called initialize_from_page_params(),
and we called it indirectly through `subs.js`.

Now we call it directly from `ui_init.js`, which gives us a
bit more control over how things are initialized. In fact,
this sets us up for the next commit, where I fix a recent
regression I introduced.

Before this, neither module was clearly in

callback mechanisms. The stream_list code
was asking topic_list to create click handlers
that called back into stream_list.

Now we just topic_zoom set up its own click
handlers and delegate out to the other two
modules.

The refactor in 12509515ae had a subtle
bug, which is that we switched from accessing the message list "this"

meant that when the narrowed_msg_list was in view and code needed to
modify home_msg_list, we accessed the wrong `selected_row` to preserve
the scroll position of (namely, the one in current_msg_list, not the
one in home_msg_list).

Fix this, by moving the function to be a property of the
message_list_view object, which makes more sense structurally, anyway.

We may, in the future, want to do a similar migration for more of
message_viewport.js.

Steve Howell 3a1bf04a56 compose: Add pills for typing in PM recipients.
@brockwhittaker wrote the original prototype for having
pills in the recipient box when users compose PMs (either
1:1 or huddle). The prototype was test deloyed on our
main realm for several weeks.

This commit includes all the original CSS and HTML from
the prototype.

After some things changed with the codebase after the initial
test deployment, I made the following changes:

    * In prior commits I refactored out a module called
`user_pill.js` that implemented some common functions
against a more streamlined version of `input_pill.js`,
and this commit largely integrates with that.

    * I made changes in a prior commit to handle Zephyr
semantics (emails don't get validated) and tested
      this commit with zephyr.

    * I fixed a reload bug by extracting code out to
      `compose_pm_pill.js` and re-ordering some
      calls to `initialize`.

There are still two flaws related to un-pill-ified text in the
input:

    * We could be more aggressive about trying to pill-ify
emails when you blur or tab away.

    * We only look at the pills when you send the message,
instead of complaining about the un-pill-ified text.
(Some folks may consider that a feature, but it's
      probably surprising to others.)

Steve Howell 3f06f28ad7 sending messages: Extract sent_messages.js.
This commit extract send_messages.js to clean up code related
to the following things:

    * sending data to /json/report_send_time
    * restarting the event loop if events don't arrive on time

The code related to /json/report changes the following ways:

    * We track the state almost completely in the new
send_messages.js module, with other modules just
      making one-line calls.

    * We no longer send "displayed" times to the servers, since
we were kind of lying about them anyway.

    * We now explicitly track the state of each single sent
      message in its own object.

    * We now look up data related to the messages by local_id,
instead of message_id. The problem with message_id was
that is was mutable. Now we use local_id, and we extend
the local_id concept to messages that don't get rendered
client side. We no longer need to react to the
'message_id_changed' event to change our hash key.

    * The code used to live in many places:
        * various big chunks were scattered among compose.js,
and those were all moved or reduced to one-line
          calls into the new module
        * echo.js continues to make basically one-line calls,
but it no longer calls compose.report_as_received(),
nor does it set the "start" time.
        * message_util.js used to report received events, but
          only when they finally got drawn in the home view;
          this code is gone now

The code related to restarting the event loop if events don't arrive
changes as follows:

    * The timer now gets set up from within
      send_messages.message_state.report_server_ack,
where we can easily inspect the current state of the
      possibly-still-in-flight message.

    * The code to confirm that an event was received happens now
in server_events.js, rather than later, so that we don't
falsely blame the event loop for a downstream bug. (Plus
it's easier to just do it one place.)

This change removes a fair amount of code from our node tests. Some
of the removal is good stuff related to us completing killing off
unnecessary code. Other removals are more expediency-driven, and
we should make another sweep at ramping up our coverage on compose.js,
with possibly a little more mocking of the new `send_messages` code
layer, since it's now abstracted better.

There is also some minor cleanup to echo.resend_message() in this
commit.

See #5968 for a detailed breakdown of the changes.

Steve Howell f6d670ae3d Extract sent_messages.js.
This is mostly straightforward moving of code out of compose.js.

The code that was moved currently supports sending time
reports for sent messages, but we intend to grow out the new
module to track more state about sent messages.

The following function names in this commit are new, but their
code was basically pulled over verbatim:

    process_success (was process_send_time)
    set_timer_for_restarting_event_loop
    clear
    initialize

All the code in the new module is covered by previous tests that
had been written for compose.js. This commit only modifies
a few things to keep those tests.

The new module has 100% node coverage, so we updated `enforce_fully_covered`.

like reifying message ids.

Steve Howell 742c55f514 Speed up key handling by adding modals.is_active().
The function modals.is_active() can see if modals are open
without having to look at the DOM. This should make it snappier
to type in the compose box. Even if the speedup is pretty minor,
not having to worry about jQuery slowness should make it easier
to diagnose future compose box issues.

The new function gets used in other places, too, where performance
isn't so much an issue.

Tim Abbott 9da63bc087 ui: Initialize settings_sections before hashchange.
This is important, since settings_sections must be initialized in
order to load the page with a hash in the settings UI.

Jack Zhang a9505654da emoji: Replace the old compose emoji picker with the reactions picker.
This removes the old compose emoji picker in its entirety, changing
the few callbacks needed to launch the reactions-style emoji picker
instead and hook it up properly.

Callbacks for reactions and composing messages are distinguished by
selecting for, respectively, the .reaction and .composition classes.

Fixes #4122.

Cory Lynch ba7b7a9a36 Change edit_message_content to have unique IDs for different messages.
Fixes bugs of when multiple messages are being edited simultaneously.
Specifically, typeahead is no longer broken, copying messages to clipboard
is less buggy, and resizing is no longer
broken when multiple messages are being edited.

Steve Howell dd0c50f0df Extract compose_actions.js.
This module extracts these two functions that get called by
several other modules:

    start()
    cancel()

It is a little bit arbitrary which functions got pulled over
with them, but it's generally functions that would have only
been called via start/cancel.

There are two goals for splitting out this code. The first
goal is simply to make `compose.js` have fewer responsibilities.
The second goal is to help break up circular dependencies.
The extraction of this module does more to clarify
dependencies than actually break them. The methods start()
and cancel() had actually been shimmed in an earlier commit,
and now they no longer have a shim.

Besides start/cancel, most of the functions here are only
exported to facilitate test stubbing. An exception is
decorate_stream_bar(), which is currently called from
ui_init.js. We probably should move the "blur" handler out
of there, but cleaning up ui_init.js is a project for another
day.

It may seem slightly odd that this commit doesn't pull over
finish() into this module, but finish() would bring in the
whole send-message codepath. You can think of it like this:

* compose_actions basically just populates the compose box
* compose.finish() makes the compose box do its real job,
which is to send a message

Steve Howell 06f9c28fd2 settings: Lazy-load settings sections.
For the settings UI, we now wait until a user goes to a particular
settings section before calling the appropriate function to set
up the section (which usually involves setting up click handlers
and populating initial data).
