The keyboard-shortcuts icon currently has a fix position
causing design related bugs such as overlapping with userlist
in the sidebar.
The fix wraps the invite-more-users link and keyboard icon inside
a div with display property as flex instead of just using the anchor
tags inside the side-bar items.
This commit removes the option to add more streams out of scrollbar
as it is not visible on mobile devices or organizations with large number of
streams until scrolled down.
The title in li.top_left_private_messages applies the title
to private-container too. This causes to show "Private message"
title to private message elements. To fix this, the title is
placed at div.private_messages_header.
The "Add streams" button text made users think this was what you needed to create
additional streams in the organization. While that's correct for the first user/organization
administrator, it's not correct for most other users.
TextField is used to allow users to set long stream + topic narrow
names in the urls.
We currently restrict users to only set "all_messages" and
"recent_topics" as narrows.
This commit achieves 3 things:
* Removes recent topics as the default view which loads when
hash is empty.
* Loads default_view when hash is empty.
* Loads default_view on pressing escape key when it is unhandled by
other present UI elements.
NOTE: After this commit loading zulip with an empty hash will
automatically set hash to default_view. Ideally, we'd just display
the default view without a hash, but that involves extra complexity.
One exception is when user is trying to load an overlay directly,
i.e. zulip is loaded with an overlay hash. In this case,
we render recent topics is background irrespective of default_view.
We consider this last detail to be a bug not important enough to block
adding this setting.
Since All messages narrow is no longer home page for webapp,
we change its icon to align-left which also shows a concept of
interleaved topics / messages.
Go to Recent Topics on "#", no hash and "#recent_topics".
Go to Recent Topics as the last destination for escape key.
Map `a` key to All messages and change its hash to
`#all_messages`.
Recent Topics is no longer an overlay now, but note that it is
also not a typical messages narrow. It can reside between
an overlay and a Filter in the sense that it is dispalyed as
a typical Filter narrow but has properties of an Overlay.
Compose box is not visible in this view as it will be confusing
to many users and hence compose shortcuts have also been disabled.
Keyboard shortcuts that apply on messages have also been disabled.
The remaining shortcuts that apply to a narrow are still accessible
here.
Add `data-simplebar` attribrute to `preview_message_area` div in
`templates/zerver/app/compose.html`.
This will cause preview_message_area div to use simplebar scrollbar
instead of normal scrollbar.
Fixes#16468.
The Formatting button that opens our Markdown help popover previously
had an "A" as its icon (the Font Awesome icon for font). This commit
changes the link to spell out "Help" to make it more discoverable.
Now that they are tab accessible, we should order them by importance.
Previously the order was:
1. Add emoji
2. Formatting
3. Attach files
4. Add video call
5. Preview
6. Drafts
This commit changes the order to:
1. Attach files
2. Preview
3. Add video call
4. Add emoji
5. Drafts
6. Formatting
The "Add emoji" button is moved back because emojis can be more
conveniently entered using the typeahead triggered with ":" or the
emoticon conversions.
This restores the Tab + Enter shortcut to send.
We are floating the send button to the right so that it still looks like
before. Instead of moving the button we could have also given every
message control button a tabindex, but these would be cumbersome to
maintain.
Tweaked by tabbott to add a comment recording the reasoning behind
the somewhat unusual CSS here.
Part of #15910.
Previously the emoji picker, the formatting help, the button to attach
files, the video call button, the Drafts button and the Press Enter to
send checkbox were all inaccessible from the keyboard.
This does break the Tab + Enter workflow for sending messages, which is
fixed in the next commit by moving the Send button to be the first
element after the textarea.
Part of #15910.
Prior to commit eb4a2b9d4e the center
area of the navbar was based on a structure that appended crumbs or
"tabs" as <li>s, forming a tab_bar and a tab_list.
However, in eb4a2b9d4e we apply a new
style and structure to the navbar which lets go of the convention of
tabs. Hence, we'd like to purge the tab_bar and tab_list labels from
our code base.
We purged tab_list in 1267caf5009118875f47fdafe312880af08024e1.
This commit purges tab_bar, it includes:
- A blanket search and replace of tab_bar with message_view_header.
- Splitting a single line comment in
tab_bar.js / message_view_header.js.
- The renaming of tab_bar.js to message_view_header.js.
- The renaming of tab_bar.hbs to message_view_header.hbs.
- A blanket search and replace of tab_data with
message_view_header_data.
- Replacing the single occurrence of tabbar with message_view_header
(it was within a comment.)
For all buttons in the compose box, `href="#"` is replaced
by "tabindex=0" so that the buttons are still focusable.
This change also fixes a bug that caused the Formatting
button to redirect to All messages.
This commit pushes us towards that goal.
Previously, this element was part of both searchbox and
searchbox_legacy of which, only one would render based on the flag on
search pills. This wasn't great because:
* it made it likely that someone would change only one of the two and
unintentionally introduce regressions.
* it meant that search_icon selectors within the searchbox would mess
with the search_icon elements within the tab_bar, leading us to rely
on messy CSS overriding.
Since there doesn't seem to be a strong reason to have this be the way
it previously was, this commit extracts "#tab_bar".
It's worth keeping in mind that we use the "#tab_bar" element as an
anchor to append the #tab_list onto.
We can now invite new users as realm owners. We restrict only
owners to invite new users as owners both for single invite
and multiuse invite link. Also, only owners can revoke or resend
owner invitations.
We fixed the main issue of this form in CVE-2020-9444, but the audit
done at that time only included links found in rendered_markdown; this
change completes our audit for links with target=_blank anywhere in
the codebase.
This adds support for a "spoiler" syntax in Zulip's markdown, which
can be used to hide content that one doesn't want to be immediately
visible without a click.
We use our own spoiler block syntax inspired by Zulip's existing quote
and math block markdown extensions, rather than requiring a token on
every line, as is present in some other markdown spoiler
implementations.

The chevron sometime can be confused as an icon for expanding the
stream topics especially for the new users.
This commit replaces the confusing chevron icon from the stream-sidebar,
topic-list, user-presence-row, all-messages and starred-messages with
ellipsis-v icon(vertical three dots).
Fixes: #7115
* Show an empty overlay of recent topics.
* Register click event to open recent topics.
* Launch recent topics on "t" keypress.
This is based on the draft overlay.
For narrows where the `.all-messages-search-caution` or
`.history-limited-box` are visible the indicator is not
aligned with `top-messages-logo`.
Now the indicator is rendered in it's appropriate position
instead of overlapping with the text.
I don't believe it's actually been possible for this to be shown in
Zulip in several years; and we just made it more obviously so
(resulting in a linter error).
We're migrating to using the cleaner zulip.com domain, which involves
changing all of our links from ReadTheDocs and other places to point
to the cleaner URL.
We remove the "GROUP PMs" section that used
to be in the lower right sidebar.
Most of this is straightforward code removal.
A couple quick notes:
- The message fetching code now just
calls `huddle_data.process_loaded_messages`,
which we still need for search suggestions.
We removed `activity.process_loaded_messages`.
- The `huddle_data.process_loaded_messages`
function no longer needs to return `need_resize`.
- In `resize.js` we now just calculate
`res.buddy_list_wrapper_max_height` directly
from `usable_height`.
We already have a loading indicator for fetching older
messages. Thus it makes sense to implement the same
for displaying newer messages.
We set the display of `bottom-messages-logo` to none,
to prevent displaying two loading indicators during
the initial message load.
Fixes#15060.
`loading_more_messages_indicator` is renamed to
`loading_older_messages_indicator`.
This is a prep commit to introduce
`loading_newer_messages_indicator`.
This completes the implementation of support for moving a topic to
another stream by adding a basic UI for it.
Fixes#6427, which was previously the most-upvoted issue request in
Zulip.
There are likely to be a bunch of follow-up UI improvements on top of
this change to fully flesh out the feature.
This page isn't polished properly and I'm not sure it's the best
decision tree here, but it's definitely better to have this page than
not, and we can always adjust forward.

This removes the weird edit-bot sidebar, replacing it with a modal,
matching our edit-user widget (and various similar ones).
Fixes#13644 by removing the buggy code.
We now prevent these variations:
* <hr/>
* <hr />
* <br/>
* <br />
We could enforce similar consistency for other void
tags, if we wished, but these two are particularly
prevalent.
This updates the logged-in top navbar to display the stream/message
name, number of users, and description. It also replaces the search
bar with a search icon that expands into a full-width search bar.

Because Franz has been to fix their broken Zulip recipe, and as a
result, currently the Franz/Fedri Zulip integration throws an
exception on every new message (fixed in
https://github.com/adambirds/recipe-zulip/pull/6/files), it is
probably worth re-introducing a version of the element it's looking
for to unbreak it.
Switched to top-of-page prompt to make it natural to fit in with other
notifications. As we switch to panel-based prompt, templates for the
bankruptcy modal are moved along with its usage in application's
homepage.
We include a bit of delay before reloading to make it easy for the
user to read the "Marking all messages as read" banner before it is
covered by the "Reloading..." notice in environments where the reload
is fast.
Fixes#3347.
We've noticed that many production organizations don't set either an
organization description or profile picture, even large open source
organizations that could definitely take advantage of this feature.
This adds a top-of-page banner that bugs organization administrators
to add an organization description and profile picture, generally
starting on the second login (as we only do it on page load after
notifications are configured).

This allows us to block use of the desktop app with insecure versions
(we simply fail to load the Zulip webapp at all, instead rendering an
error page).
For now we block only versions that are known to be both insecure and
not auto-updating, but we can easily adjust these parameters in the
future.
This is a prep commit for the new navbar, since the new navbar switches
between a search bar and stream descriptions, it's easier to have the
border defined in an outer div. Due to the way the changesets is
generated, this may seem like a large diff, however, the only change to
navbar.html is to add an opening div with the ".top-navbar-border" class
and a corrseponding closing div to wrap around "#search_box" and
"#search_box_legacy". Apart from this, a few styles have been edited in
zulip.scss and night_mode.scss.
This is a prep-commit for the new navbar style, seperating
navbar_alerts.html from navbar.html in order to make the structure and
styles of navbar.html easier to tweak.
These templates have very little to do with each other to begin with
appart from the fact that they are both rendered at the top of the app.
The simplebar is the default scrollbar throughout majority of Zulip but
it was missing in "Keyboard shortcuts", "Message formatting" and "Search
operators" modals. Added simplebar in the 3 modals.
Users who are using ZulipDesktop or haven't managed to auto-update to
ZulipElectron should be strongly encouraged to upgrade.
We'll likely want to move to something even stricter that blocks
loading the app at all, but this is a good start.
This gives them cache-compatible URLs, and also avoids some extra
copies of the sprite sheet images.

This change allows the stream names to fit in one line when
we have a long string particularly for notifications stream
with a message 'recieves notifications for new streams'.
This legacy cross-realm bot hasn't been used in several years, as far
as I know. If we wanted to re-introduce it, I'd want to implement it
as an embedded bot using those common APIs, rather than the totally
custom hacky code used for it that involves unnecessary queue workers
and similar details.

This commit modifies the `#add-stream-link` element to be a `div`
containing the previous `a` element. The margin that was added to
`#stream-filters-container .simplebar-content` is then moved to that new
`div`.

the margin, to fix#12519 while removing an unnecessary scrollbar
which could hide the top-most stream in the stream list.

We were using these hollowed out arrows characters (⇽ , ⇾) in a few
places, these were inconsistent with the solid up and down arrow
characters (↑ , ↓) we use otherwise. This commit replaces them
everywhere in the codebase.
We're changing our style to always show the scrollbar on the right
pane of modals, because that makes it consistently clear when there
are more items below.
It's not clear why we added this (I didn't notice it in review), and

So reverting that hunk.

This moves help_table to informational-overlays.scss, replaces "," with

this also improves the styling of the text.

Commit db45d220a8 (#3996) disabled
mobile zooming on all pages, with the reasoning that focusing an input
may automatically zoom the page and break content. I’m not sure
whether that was a good reason, but at most it only applies to the app
page. Reenable zooming on all other pages like the portico and
documentation to improve their accessibility.
(Note: the other common reason to disable zooming, which was that
mobile browsers once added a 300ms tap delay to recognize double-tap
zoom gestures, has been obsolete since 2014:

Fixes#11642.
If MAX_FILE_UPLOAD_SIZE is set to 0, then UI elements like the upload
icon in the compose and message edit UI and "Attachments" menu in

A different error message is also displayed if a user tries to drag and
drop or paste a file into the compose message box.
Fixes#12152.
This adds the same "x" button as we have in "stream search" or "people
search" to the user status modal.
The button is shown if someone types something, or if the status
message was already set (meaning there was already a value in the
input field). If the input field is empty, the button is not visible.
This fixes the follow-up comments from #12179.
- Changed the <p>s to <button>s and modified the css accordingly.
- Changed the css to use scss nesting.
- Changed the line-height from 1.0em to 1.1em, because on Safari the "g" was not fully displayed.
If you click on STREAMS, it opens the
streams filter, so now the hover reflects
that.
The wording here is consistent with what
you see when you hover over USERS.
Maybe we want to say "Search ..." instead
of "Filter ..." for these two headings.
Maybe this is just a bit of a misfeature,
though, since we already have search icons,
and we don't have consistent behavior for
the GROUP PMs header.
This adds a class `rendered_markdown` for all the elements which have
rendered markdown content; This is done to add different styles for
rendered content in day mode and night mode.
Also replace the element selectors from CSS to use the class.
We have this strange business requirement that the
blue-ish highlights for the current PM go into the
left gutter and all the way to the right edge.
We also have markup that treats the list of PMs
as a list inside the list item for the "Private
messages", which makes sense logically.
Before this change, the padding was done for the
outer top-left `ul`, but that caused the inner PM
rows not to have that padding when you hovered them.
Now we pad each individual list item and/or inner
list item or div.
Fixes#11879.
We now use 10px to the left of major elements in
left sidebar.
And we then explicitly use 19px for the following:
icons in top left
indent for (more conversations)
stream hashtag icons
stream lock icons
We also kill off 2px of gutter that was caused
by whitespace in the HTML (and was slightly messing
up alignment of names beneath "Private messages").
Finally, we make the topic indent a bit more explicit.
In this commit, I've added a feature to unstar all the starred
messages. This is useful, e.g., for folks who are using starred
messages to keep track of things they should come back when next at
their desktop.
The event flow is the standard one for a feature with a confirmation modal:
(1) User clicks on unstar all messages.
(2) We display a confirmation modal; if the user confirms, we send a
request to the backend to clear all starred messages.
(3) The events system sends that UI update back to us, removing the
stars from the UI.
Fixes#11401.
This is a fairly big commit, but at the end
it simplifies a lot of things.
It's difficult to fix highly coupled code in
incremental steps because, well, it's highly
coupled code.
The main thing this does is give each type of
chevron in the left sidebar its own class
* all-messages-arrow (NEW)
* stream-sidebar-arrow
* topic-sidebar-arrow
Before this change, the "All messages" chevron
was using stream-sidebar-arrow, which was a
strange name for something that's not actually
in the stream sidebar. Obviously this was
cargo culted.
There was not much JS to change here--we just
fix the click handler for "All messsages".
And then there's a one-line change to the template,
and the rest is re-organizing the CSS.
It seems like 1871d00bb2 renamed `/help/at-mention-a-user` to `/help/mention-a-user-or-group` but missed this link that shows up on the "You haven't been mentioned yet!" screen. Right now it leads to a "no such article page".
The night logo synchronization on the settings page was perfect, but
the actual display logic had a few problems:
* We were including the realm_logo in context_processors, even though
it is only used in home.py.
* We used different variable names for the templating in navbar.html
than anywhere else the codebase.
* The behavior that the night logo would default to the day logo if
only one was uploaded was not correctly implemented for the navbar
position, either in the synchronization for updates code or the
logic in the navbar.html templates.
Guest users will just get an empty list of default streams; we also
hide the "Default streams" organization view from the guest users UI.
This is for consistency with not providing guest users the full list
of streams in an organization.
Changed <h5> to <p>, and removed the special formatting of
.empty_search_text to make this more in line with the formatting we
generally use with empty narrows.
It looked kinda terrible in between the two
user lists.
There is some discussion here (I have to break the
link into two lines to make gitlint happy):
https://chat.zulip.org/#narrow/stream/
101-design/topic/user.20sidebar.20in.20left/near/697682
We want the search widget, when visible, to be
outside the scroll container for the stream list.
One obvious use case is if you start scrolling, and
then realize it might be less effort to search.
Also, for user search, it already worked this way.
We have to add a couple resizing hooks here, but
it's not necessary to change the actual resize
calculation, since we move the section inside
of #streams_header, which is already accounted
for.
The only markup change here is to add
a `stream_search_section` class. I don't
know why we use `notdisplayed` here instead of
jQuery, or what `input-append` is for, but I
considered them outside the scope of this change.
We can also remove some crufty CSS that was
compensating for it being inside the container.
This change only impacts users who have the setting
to put the user lists in the left sidebar when they
have a narrow window.
First, we move ".right-sidebar-items" as an entire
group.
Second, we append the items to "#left-sidebar"
instead of ".narrows_panel".
The name `bottom_sidebar` was misleading, because it
includes the entire "normal" left sidebar.
It includes the 4 narrow links at the top plus the
stream/topic list.
We now call is narrows_panel.
Note that the left sidebar sometimes also includes
the user list (with a display setting turned on).
And it will eventually include other views.
We also remove an intermediate value in the resize
calculations.
This code will correctly add video call link to the message
textarea based on whether 'Add video call' was selected from
message composition form or message edit form.
The implementation was semi-rewritten by tabbott to remove an
unnecessary global variable, with fixes for the unit tests from
showell.
Fixes#11188.
This is primarily a feature for onboarding, where an organization
administrator might send a bunch of random test messages as part of
joining, but then want a pristine organization when their users later
join.
But it can theoretically be used for other use cases (e.g. for
moderation or removing threads that are problematic in some way).
Tweaked by tabbott to handle corner cases with
is_history_public_to_subscribers.
Fixes#10912.
The following elements in the top left corner
are major components of our app:
All messages
Private messages
Starred messages
Mentions
We can now find them directly:
$('.top_left_all_messages')
$('.top_left_private_messages')
$('.top_left_starred_messages')
$('.top_left_mentions')
Before this, we had to build up complicated selectors
like below:
exports.get_global_filter_li = function (filter_name) {
var selector = "#global_filters li[data-name='"
+ filter_name + "']";
return $(selector);
};
I don't think any newbie would know to grep for "global_filter",
and I've seen a PR where somebody added specific markup here
to "Private messages" because they couldn't grok the old scheme.
Another thing to note is that we still have a "home-link"
class for "All messages", which overlapped with portico
code that had the same name. (There were some inaccurate
comments in the code relating to the tab bar, but we don't
actually have a way to click to the home view in the tab
bar any more.) I'll eliminate that cruft in another commit.
For this commit the four elements still have the
"global-filter" class, since there's some benefit to being
able to style them all as a group, although we should give
it a nicer name in a subsequent commit.
Most of this PR is basic search/replace, but I did add a
two-line helper: `top_left_corner.update_starred_count`
User was able to click delete button multiple time which could cause
multiple delete requests. This commit disables and hides the delete
message button after the first click and shows a spinner until http
the delete request responds.
Also adds a casperjs test to ensure that spinner becomes visible and
delete button becomes invisible after clicking on delete button for
first time and hides spinner and show delete buttton when message is
deleted.
Fixes: #11219.
This reverts the temporary fix done in commit
46f4e58782 and replaced it with the fix that
non-admins should be able to see a dropdown to select a non-admin type of
invited user i.e. normal member or guest user.
Since we have already added the `invite_as` field to models, we can now
replace usage of `invite_as_admin` properly with its equivalent `invite_as
== PreregistrationUser.INVITE_AS['REALM_ADMIN']`.
Hence, also removed now redundant `invite_as`.
This adds a new realm_logo field, which is a horizontal-format logo to
be displayed in the top-left corner of the webapp, and any other
places where we might want a wide-format branding of the organization.
Tweaked significantly by tabbott to rebase, fix styling, etc.
Fixing the styling of this feature's loading indicator caused me to
notice the loading indicator for the realm_icon feature was also ugly,
so I fixed that too.
Fixes#7995.
The stream/topic edit areas now have these ids:
#stream_message_recipient_stream
#stream_message_recipient_topic
They are pretty verbose, but being able to grep
for these without noise does have some value.
If you go to "Manage streams" in the gear menu,
it's now a direct link to '#streams/subscribed'
instead of just '#streams'. This makes our
back button behavior more predictable.
This correctly shows guest users that they cannot interact with
anything in the "Organization" tab, though we preserve the read-only
access to it so that they can (e.g.) browse the organization's custom
emoji.
Also adds relevant tests and documentation. We currently
do not narrow to a new topic, and instead just narrow to
the stream. Similarly, we do not narrow to a PM if any of
the recipients are invalid.
Add a lock icon to the right of tabs on which nothing is editable
for normal users. Add lock next to Custom emoji option if only admin
can edit them.
Tweaked by tabbott to use title for the lock icons, rather than
aria-hidden, since they do convey useful information.
Fixes: #10893.
Previously, messages were a string of disconnected regions. Modeling them as a list brings several benefits:
* Quickly jump to the message list by using a screen reader's list navigation hotkey.
* Quickly jump between messages by using a screen reader's list item navigation hotkey.
* Quickly jump to the beginning or end of message lists in screen readers that support it.
Use CSS to display a `+` button on mobile but keep the more verbose
buttons on desktop. In the future, this button will be used to display
a popop for a new message.
