f0c680e9c0 introduced a call to
message_helper.process_new_message without first calling
message_store.set_message_flags on the message.
This resulted in it being possible as a race, when loading the Zulip
app to a stream/topic/near narrow, for a message to have the
`historical` flag be undefined due to not being initialized.
That invalid state, in turn, resulted in the message_list_view code
path for rendering the message feed incorrectly displaying additional
recipient bars around the message.
We could fix this by just calling message_store.set_message_booleans
in this code path. However, this bug exposes the fact that it's very
fragile to expect every code path to call that function before
message_helper.process_new_message.
So we instead fix this by moving message_store.set_message_booleans
inside message_helper.process_new_message.
One call point of concern in this change is maybe_add_narrow_messages,
which could theoretically reintroduce the double set_message_flags
bugs detailed in 9729b1a4ad. However, I
believe that to not be possible, because that call should never
experience a cache miss.
The other existing code paths were already calling
set_message_booleans immediately before
message_helper.process_new_message. They are still changing here, in
that we now do a cache lookup before attempting to call
set_message_booleans. Because the message booleans do not affect the
cache lookup and the local message object is discarded in case of a
cache hit, this should have no functional impact.
Because I found the existing comment at that call site confusing and
almost proposed removing it as pointless, extend the block comment to
explicitly mention that the purpose is refreshing our object.

This eliminates an annoying bundle of complexity that caused the
frontend markdown processor's interface with the rest of Zulip's new
message processing code paths being more similar to that of a new
message from the server.
It also cuts down on code duplication.
The previous message.unread block in insert_local_message was
non-functional. markdown.apply_markdown is overriding what that set by
calling message_store.init_booleans, which happens to set the same
value for the `unread` flag, and then setting individual message
booleans as it finds elements like mentions during rendering.
Improve this situation partially by deleting the message_unread block,
and adding conversion logic to translate what the markdown processor
is doing into message flags.
Then, we can call message_store.set_message_flags just like we do when
processing new messages arriving via the API. This will be helpful
shortly, when we deduplicate the calls to
message_store.set_message_flags.
As noted in the lengthy TODO, this exposes the fact that we should
really rework how the frontend markdown processor returns the
mentioned state to its caller.
Previously, after sending a message from the full-sized compose-box,
the compose-box remained in expanded state covering the entire middle
part. Instead, it should return to the original state after the
message is sent.
There's a subtle race that would cause the "Scroll down to see your
message" compose notification to appear incorrectly, because the
full-size compose box occluded the entire message feed at the time the
message was locally echoed, even though it would no longer do so after
collapsing.
We address that by shrinking the compose box immediately before doing
a local echo, in addition to the primary code path in
`clear_compose_box`. Care is taken to ensure that we avoid shrinking
the compose box when sending a message that cannot be locally echoed
and gets an error from the server.
Tested on my Ubuntu development environment, by sending empty message,
valid message and slash commands. The compose-box only shrunk on
sending valid messages.
Fixes part of #19353.
Before this commit, the message or any draft is deleted as soon
as the compose box is closed. So, it removes that by removing
delete_active_drafts and instead this commit will add the deletion
process of drafts in reify_message_id that is called when a
message is successfully sent and received.
Now, see there are two types of messages, one that are locally
echoed and the second ones are that aren't locally echoed but
sent directly to server. This commit only saves the message in
draft if it is locally echoed as they are the only messages
that show message failed in message list. The non locally echoed
ones aren't remove from the compose box until they are
successfully sent. Now as the draft-id is stored in the message
data for locally echoed messages, as they are echoed from the
server, they are deleted using that draft-id.
This also adds node tests for echo reify_message_id for testing
this feature that this commit is adding.

We split recent_topics module into recent_topics_(ui + data + util).
This allows us to reduce cyclical dependencies which were
created due to large list of imports in recent topics. Also, this
refactor on its own makes sense.
The `.refresh-failed-message button` was registering clicks even
while the button was spinning (has already been clicked once).
Thus a network request was sent for every subsequent click which
raises an exception that the local id is not found in the message
store as it had already been reifyed by the first request.
Fixes#18375.
This data structure has never been one that we actually render into
the DOM; instead, its role is to support clicking into view that
contain muted streams and topics quickly.
This downgrade makes that situation much more explicit, and is also
useful refactoring to help simpify the upcoming changes in #16746.

This change does not impact the overall complexity
of our dependency graph (at least in terms of the
number of edges that we would need to remove to get
a tree), but it does clarify the picture a bit.
The changes made in this commit are as follows:
* We remove the now unused `ui.find_message` which was added
in commit 1666403850.
* We change the function paramter to now accept message ids
instead of messages to eliminate redundant message ids to
message convertion as only the id is required.
* The remove method in MessageListData did not remove the
messages from the hash, it removed only from the items,
this fixes it.
* This commit also fixes a bug where messages are not added
to the current message list if an event is recieved where
messages are moved to this current narrow.
Only the message removal logic was present, which has been
refactored in this commit.
Instead of prohibiting ‘return undefined’ (#8669), we require that a
function must return an explicit value always or never. This prevents
you from forgetting to return a value in some cases. It will also be
important for TypeScript, which distinguishes between undefined and
void.

If the last message of the topic was deleted, we update the stored
message_id in the topic history so that the topic order in topic_list
is updated correctly.
ES and TypeScript modules are strict by default and don’t need this
directive. ESLint will remind us to add it to new CommonJS files and
remove it from ES and TypeScript modules.

We have logic in place to update the ui for re-sending messages
on recieving the acknowledgement from the server on that API call.
However, if the acknowledgement is recieved through the get events
request before the `on_success` of `resend_message`, the message
gets re-rendered allowing the failed message actions to be clickable.
Now, we update the ".message_failed" ui for both cases. This helps
in preventing the "Trying to get local_id from row that has reified
message id" exception.
