This commit updates the code, which checks if user is member of
the group before adding them to the group, to consider only
direct members and now allows members of subgroups to be added
as direct members of the group.
Instead of showing the actual names like "role:everyone",
"role:moderators", etc. for system groups, we show
"Everyone", "Moderators", etc. for system user group in
pills, typeaheads and popovers.
Though system groups are not shown in typeahead as of
this commit, we update the typeahead code as well to
not conside "role:" prefix while matching with the
query as we would soon show system groups in typeahead
when we would add new UI for group-based settings.
Previously, only "role:everyone" group was shown as
"Everyone" in popover and pills but for other system
groups their original names for shown and this commit
changes that behavior to be same for all system groups.
The original display_name field for
settings_config.system_user_groups_list objects, which
was used for dropdown widgets, is also renamed so that
we can use display_name field for the names to be used
in other places.
This commit introduced 'creator' and 'date_created'
fields in user groups, allowing users to view who
created the groups and when.
Both fields can be null for groups without creator data.
For system groups, the directive is that we should use the description
as the display name. But in case of `role:everyone`, the description is
`Admins, moderators, members and guests`, while for the
`user_group_pill`, we want to display a simpler and succinct message:
`Everyone`. We've only hardcoded this for user_group_pill since we don't
want to display the name as `Everyone` anywhere else yet.
We've also exposed a method called `get_display_group_name` which will
be used in later commits to get the group display name.
This function goes through all subgroups recursively and returns the
resultant set of the members of those subgroups in addition to the
members of our target_group.
This function is required in order to add the `everyone` pill to create
channel flow.
For the tests written in this commit, it uses the same pattern as the
`get_recursive_subgroups` test.
`is_user_in_group` could have been technically refactored to use
`get_recursive_group_members`, but since the former returns early for
direct members, I've let it be for now.
There were couple of problems in our handling of invalid or
incomplete URLs-
- The browser back button behavior breaks if someone enters
url with invalid group ID, incorrect group name.
- On typing group edit URLs with invalid group ID, an error
was raised and the URLs remained the same with just opening
the groups overlay with "Your" tab selected in left panel.
- On typing group edit URLs with incorrect right side tab or
without any right side tab, we showed "general" section, which
is fine, but the URL was still incorrect.
This commit fixes the above mentioned problems-
- URLs with invalid group IDs are now handled gracefully
with groups UI opening in the same way as before but the
url is updated to "#groups/your".
- We now update the right side tab to "general" if right
side tab is invalid or there is no right side tab.
- All the URL updates to fix invalid urls are done using
"history.replaceState" to make sure the browser back button
behaves as expected.
- All the code for checking the urls is done in hashchange.js
itself, so we can remove some code from change_state.
For spectators, the chunk of page_params that originates from
do_events_register isn’t assigned until ui_init.js. That means the
TypeScript type of page_params is mostly a lie during module load
time: reading a parameter too early silently results in undefined
rather than the declared type, with unpredictable results later on.
We want to make such an early read into an immediate runtime error,
for both users and spectators consistently, and pave the way for
runtime validation of the page_params type. As a second step, split
out the subset of fields that pertain to the entire realm.

The "user_group_name_dict" value for the old group name key
was not deleted and this led to a bug where the stream creation
UI was incorrectly showing about a user group already existing
with the old group name.
Fixes#28108.
This commit updates the backend code to allow changing
can_access_all_users_group setting in development environment
and also adds a dropdown in webapp UI which is only shown in
development environment.
Earlier the API endpoints related to user_group accepts and returns a
field `can_mention_group_id` which represents the ID
of user_group whose members can mention the group.
This commit renames this field to `can_mention_group`.
This commit removes "@" from name of role-based system groups
since we have added a restricion on having user group names
starting with "@" in the previous commit as they look odd in
mention syntax.
We also add a migration in this commit to update the name of
role-based system groups in existing realms to remove "@"
from the name. This migration also updates the names of
non-system user groups by removing the invalid prefixes
from their names and if there is a group already with that
name, we insted name the group as "group:{group_id}".
Fixes#26148.
This commit adds "Nobody" group option to system_user_groups_list in
settings_config.js. We do not allow can_remove_subscribers_group to
be set to "Nobody" group currently, but it is nice to add support
for this here since it will be used in more settings in future.
This commit refactors get_realm_user_groups_for_dropdown_list_widget
function to use "group_permission_settings" module instead of
passing variables like "allow_internet_group", etc. individually
for each settings.
We lose some test coverage due to this commit, but that would be
fixed when we add some more group-based settings and allow groups
other than system groups in the group based settings.
This lets us simplify the long-ish ‘../../static/js’ paths, and will
remove the need for the ‘zrequire’ wrapper.
