Vishnu KS 92316ef4d1 statuspage: Properly detect the update is for component or incident.
The value of "status_indicator" can be "none" for both the component
and incident updates[1]. Also, it is not at all necessary that the value of
"status_indicator" is always "none" for incident updates[2][3]. So our previous
logic of using the value of "status_indicator" to determine whether
the update is that of a component or incident was incorrect. Instead, we
should use "incident" or "component" keys to determine the type of update.

Puneeth Chaganti 358f1f9ba7 webhooks/sentry: Support integration configured as webhook.
Sentry allows adding simple webhooks without going through the process
of creating an Internal Integration in Sentry's Integration
Platform[1] (which our docs recommend).

webhook. This commit tries to wrangle this payload into a form that is
usable by our webhook handler to send a notification message.

Even before GDPR changes, it was strange that we displayed

After GDPR, we don't even get the `username` field any

we try `nickname`.

Steve Howell 1ef8d79352 bitbucket: Decouple BITBUCKET_FORK_BODY between versions.
We were trying to share the same format string between
the two different versions of bitbucket, but this only
creates confusion, as the two versions are only close
enough to be confusing.

The format string might be the same, but the semantics
are different, as well as the eventual outputs.

For example, the {username} piece here is simple in version
2, but in version 3 we append a url to the user's name.

Hemanth V. Alluri 54aba8d402 webhooks/gitlab: Use information about all assignees.
Previously, the GitLab webhook code, namely the `get_objects_assignee`
method first tried to get a single assignee and if that failed then it
looks for multiple assignees and then it would return the first
assignee that it found (there's actually a code smell here - a loop
which would always return on the first iteration).

Instead, this commit will change that behavior to first check for
multiple assignees first then for a single assignee if we can't find
multiple assignees. Ultimately it will return a list of all of the
assignees (however many that might be [0, n]). This method has then
aptly been renamed to `get_assignees`.

Finally, we tweked the code using this method to always use it's
output as an "assignees" parameter to templates (there's also an
assignee parameter which we want to avoid here for consistency).

Alex Vandiver 9ea9752e0e webhooks: Rename UnexpectedWebhookEventType to UnsupportedWebhookEventType.
Any exception is an "unexpected event", which means talking about
having an "unexpected event logger" or "unexpected event exception" is
confusing. As the error message in `exceptions.py` already explains,
this is about an _unsupported_ event type.

This also switches the path that these exceptions are written to,
accordingly.
2020-09-10 17:47:21 -07:00
Alex Vandiver 8016769613 webhooks: Move UnexpectedWebhookEventType into zerver.lib.exceptions.
8e10ab282a moved UnexpectedWebhookEventType into
`zerver.lib.exceptions`, but left the import into
`zserver.lib.webhooks.common` so that webhooks could continue to
import the exception from there.

This clutters things and adds complexity; there is no compelling
reason that the exception's source of truth should not move alongside
all other exceptions.

Steve Howell 5bff66b450 github webhook: Always send messages for team edits.
If there are unsupported keys, we still log an error,
but we now also send a message to the stream. (This
is a good tradeoff for the github webhook, since users
can just turn off notifications if they find it spammy.
Also, we intend to support "repository" soon.)

This is a bit of an experiment to see how this plays
in the field:

    * will customers notice the change?
    * will Sentry reports look any different?

Steve Howell cc2dbefc60 mypy: Use better types for EVENT_FUNCTION_MAPPER.
The EVENT_FUNCTION_MAPPER maps a string event name
to a function handler. Before this we circumvented
mypy checks with a call to get_body_function_based_on_type,
which specified Any as the type of our event function.

Now the types are rigorous.

This change was impossible without the recent commit
to introduce the Helper class.
2020-09-03 10:44:39 -07:00
Steve Howell 4de2b78c25 github refactor: Add Helper class.
The Helper class will soon grow, but the immediate
problem it solves is the need to jankily inspect
the parameters of our get_*_body function.

Most of the changes were handled by an ad hoc
munge.py script.

The substantive changes were adding the Helper
class and passing it in.

And then the linter discovered a place where
the optional include_title parameter wasn't used
(which is one of the reasons to avoid the janky
inspect-signature technique).

As a side note, none of the include_title parameters
needed a default value of False, as we always passed
in an explicit value.

We test cover both sides of include_title, which
you can verify by hard coding it to either True or
False (and seeing the relevant failures), although I
suspect most individual codepaths
only test one value, based on whether "topic" is in
the fixture or not.

Finally, I know Helper is not a great name, but I
intend to evolve the class a bit before deciding
whether a more descriptive name is helpful here.
(For example, an upcoming commit will add a
log_unexpected helper method.)
2020-09-03 10:44:39 -07:00
Steve Howell ead7cbea40 github refactor: Handle header_event explicitly.
We get the header_event one level up the call
stack now, too.

It's somewhat annoying that we have our own
concept of "event" here, instead of just returning
our event handlers directly, or just calling them
directly, but it's a bit non-trivial to fix that
right away.

In passing, I remove the strange OR for "ping",
which is already a key in EVENT_FUNCTION_MAPPER.

possible follow up here.

We now ignore the following two new pull_request
actions (as well as the three existing ones
from before):

    approved
    converted_to_draft

As the issue above indicates, we may want to actually
support "approved" if we can find somebody to work
on the webhook. (And then the issue goes a little
broader than what changed here.)

Sentry may get reported multiple exceptions stacks, in the case where
a `raise ...` was caught, and a new exception was `raise`d. In this
case, the `filename` is the most recent exception -- but the
exceptions are stored in the `exception` key in the order in which
they occurred. As such, taking the first value with a `stacktrace`
will result in showing the wrong line, or in no stack trace being
resolved at all.

Look from the last `exception` backwards, for matching stacks.

shows we successfully ignore all fixtures of this

2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell 7fbe08f515 webhook tests: Introduce get_payload.
We introduce get_payload for the relatively
exceptional cases where webhooks return payloads
as dicts.

Having a simple "str" type for get_body will
allow us to extract test helpers that use
payloads from get_body() without the ugly
`Union[str, Dict[str, str]]` annotations.

I also tightened up annotations in a few places
where we now call get_payload (using Dict[str, str]
instead of Dict[str, Any]).

In the zendesk test I explicitly stringify
one of the parameters to satisfy mypy.
2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell f7e4cc28eb mypy: Use str for get_body in bitbucket.

Steve Howell fae3535e79 webhook tests: Avoid check_webhook for multi messages.
If we're not passing in expected_topic or expected_message
to check_webhook, it's better to just call send_webhook_payload,
since we'll want to explicitly check our messages
anyway.

This preps us to always require those fields for
check_webhook, which can prevent insidious testing no-ops.
2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell f74aa29a1c webhook tests: Extract assert_stream_message.
This forces us to be a bit more explicit about testing
the three key values in any stream message, and it
also de-clutters the code a bit. I eventually want
to phase out do_test_topic and friends, since they
have the pitfall that you can call them and have them
do nothing, because they don't actually require
values to be be passed in.

I also clean up the code a bit for the tests that
have two new messages arriving.
2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell 3a710ab996 webhook tests: Remove stream_name parameter.
Having an optional stream_name parameter makes
it confusing to read the code if you know your
webhook is sending private messages.

And then the other two callers are already
checking topics, so they might as well check
stream names, too.

We also have the two stream-oriented callers
make their own call to "subscribe". And we
future-proof this by making sure the exception
for no-message-being-sent calls out that gotcha.

Somewhat in passing, we now assert that
self.STREAM_NAME is not None in the main
helper. This is partly to satisfy mypy, but
it's also a good sanity check.

This also sets the stage for the next commit,
where I'll add an assert_stream_message helper.
2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell 2fdf966d9f webhook tests: Rename helper to send_webhook_payload.
Not all webhook payloads are json, so send_json_payload was a
bit misleading.

In passing I also remove "bytes" from the Union type for
"payload" parameter.
2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell 388053db6b webhook tests: Rename main helper to check_webhook.
Almost all webhook tests use this helper, except a few
webhooks that write to private streams.

Being concise is important here, and the name
`self.send_and_test_stream_message` always confused
me, since it sounds you're sending a stream message,
and it leaves out the webhook piece.

We should consider renaming `send_and_test_private_message`
to something like `check_webhook_private`, but I couldn't
decide on a great name, and it's very rarely used. So
for now I just made sure the docstrings of the two
sibling functions reference each other.
2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell 00001a396b webhook tests: Shorten topic constants.
The "EXPECTED_" prefix and "_EVENTS" suffix
usually provided more noise than signal.

We also use module constants to avoid the "self."
noise. It also makes it a bit more clear which
constants actually have to be in the class (e.g.
"FIXTURE_DIR_NAME") to do their job.
2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell fbef6e3c03 zendesk tests: Fix anti-patterns.
We had optional parameters for expected_topic and
expected_message, which are trivial to eliminate,
since the integration is really simple.

And we were doing strange things trying to reset
class variables at the end of tests. Now we just
set them explicitly in the tests.
2020-08-24 12:34:46 -07:00
Steve Howell 3de2e4f034 dialogflow test: Fix nonsensical tests.
The test helper here was taking an "expected_topic"
parameter that it just ignored, and then the
dialogflow tests were passing in expected messages
in that slot, so the actual "expected_message" var
was "None" and was ignored. So the tests weren't
testing anything.

Now we eliminate the crufty expected_topic parameter
and require an actual value for "expected_message".

I also clean up the mypy type for content_type,
and I remove the `content_type is None` check,
since all callers either pass in a str content
type or default to "application/json".

This changes the notification messages for events that currently just

Background: we're using the GitHub integration for org-wide notifications

having all messages just say "the repository" isn't ideal. Even now one
can hover over the link to see the repo's url, but it'd be much nicer if
the message just contained the full name.

present in all modern payloads as per the documentation at

we will use the older Sentry integration code.

Hemanth V. Alluri 04811e724d webhooks/sentry: Rewrite the sentry webhook for the latest SDKs.
Sentry has client SDKs for many programming languages and frameworks.
Sentry has deprecated their old "Raven" series of client SDKs in favor
of a new series of client SDKs following their unified API format.

As it stood, our Sentry integration was already outdated being written
for the version 5 payloads (the Raven SDKs stopped at version 6 which
is already vastly different from version 5) when the current and
prominently used version is version 7.

This commit completely rewrites the existing Sentry integration.

Tested and supported events:
- Issue created, resolved, assigned, and ignored events.
- "Sentry events" for "capture exception" and "capture message" with
the Golang, Node.js, and Python SDKs (other SDKs should also work but
only these were used for testing).

Abhinav 41fc7b2ae1 webhooks/semaphore: Add support for Semaphore 2.0 notifications.
Semaphore has currently has two different versions of their product -
Classic and 2.0. This commit adds support for Semaphore 2.0, along side
Semaphore Classic, using the same webhook. This would let the integration
work seamlessly for users who have already configured a Zulip integration in
their Semaphore 2.0 projects.

Semaphore 2.0 currently only supports GitHub and their payloads do not
contain URLs for common entities like commits, pull requests and tags. We
construct URLs for them using templates, but also try to support other
services by providing notifications without URLs.

Steve Howell 1306239c16 tests: Use email/delivery_email more explicitly.
We try to use the correct variation of `email`
or `delivery_email`, even though in some
databases they are the same.

(To find the differences, I temporarily hacked
populate_db to use different values for email
and delivery_email, and reduced email visibility
in the zulip realm to admins only.)

In places where we want the "normal" realm
behavior of showing emails (and having `email`
be the same as `delivery_email`), we use
the new `reset_emails_in_zulip_realm` helper.

A couple random things:

    - I fixed any error messages that were leaking
      the wrong email

    - a test that claimed to rely on the order
of emails no longer does (we sort user_ids
      instead)

    - we now use user_ids in some place where we used
      to use emails

    - for IRC mirrors I just punted and used
      `reset_emails_in_zulip_realm` in most places

    - for MIT-related tests, I didn't fix email
vs. delivery_email unless it was obvious

I also explicitly reset the realm to a "normal"
realm for a couple tests that I frankly just didn't
have the energy to debug. (Also, we do want some
coverage on the normal case, even though it is
"easier" for tests to pass if you mix up `email`
and `delivery_email`.)

In particular, I just reset data for the analytics
and corporate tests.

Steve Howell c235333041 test performance: Pass in users to api_* helpers.
This reduces query counts in some cases, since
we no longer need to look up the user again. In
particular, it reduces some noise when we
count queries for O(N)-related tests.

The query count is usually reduced by 2 per
API call. We no longer need to look up Realm
and UserProfile. In most cases we are saving
these lookups for the whole tests, since we
usually already have the `user` objects for
other reasons. In a few places we are simply
moving where that query happens within the
test.

In some places I shorten names like `test_user`
or `user_profile` to just be `user`.
2020-03-11 14:18:29 -07:00
Steve Howell 626ad0078d tests: Add uuid_get and uuid_post.
We want a clean codepath for the vast majority
of cases of using api_get/api_post, which now
uses email and which we'll soon convert to
accepting `user` as a parameter.

These apis that take two different types of
values for the same parameter make sweeps
like this kinda painful, and they're pretty
easy to avoid by extracting helpers to do
the actual common tasks. So, for example,
here I still keep a common method to
actually encode the credentials (since
the whole encode/decode business is an
annoying detail that you don't want to fix
in two places):

def encode_credentials(self, identifier: str, api_key: str) -> str:
        """
identifier: Can be an email or a remote server uuid.
        """
        credentials = "%s:%s" % (identifier, api_key)
        return 'Basic ' + base64.b64encode(credentials.encode('utf-8')).decode('utf-8')

But then the rest of the code has two separate
codepaths.

And for the uuid functions, we no longer have
crufty references to realm. (In fairness, realm
will also go away when we introduce users.)

For the `is_remote_server` helper, I just inlined
it, since it's now only needed in one place, and the
name didn't make total sense anyway, plus it wasn't
a super robust check. In context, it's easier
just to use a comment now to say what we're doing:

    # If `role` doesn't look like an email, it might be a uuid.
if settings.ZILENCER_ENABLED and role is not None and '@' not in role:
        # do stuff

Hemanth V. Alluri 2e20dcc053 webhooks/jira: Update webhook to support improved comment events.
Atlassian announced that it will no longer provide information about
comments along with their "issue" type event payloads for Jira. So
we must now update the Jira integration to appropriately respond to
"comment" type events (the reason why we didn't do this before was
that initially, the "comment" type event payloads didn't contain
sufficient information about their issues, but this payload has
since been improved).

Note: This commit does *not* remove support for the older "issue"
type event payloads where information about comments was included.
This way we can maintain compatibility with old self-hosted versions
of self hosted Jira (2016 and before).

Hemanth V. Alluri ef52aa0fc1 webhooks: Eliminate the usage of a headers.py file.
For storing HTTP headers as a function of fixture name, previously
we required that the fixture_to_headers method should reside in a
separate module called headers.py.

However, as in many cases, this method will only take a few lines,
we decided to move this function into the view.py file of the
integration instead of requiring a whole new file called headers.py

This commit introduces the small change in the system architecture,
migrates the GitHub integration, and updates the docs accordingly.

Hemanth V. Alluri 4691028097 webhooks: Extract the '__' method of mapping to headers.
In the GitHub integration we established that for many integrations,
we can directly map the fixture filename to the set of required
headers and by following a simple naming convention we can greatly
ease the logic involved in fixture_to_headers method required .

So to prevent the need for duplicating the logic used by the GitHub
integration, we created a method called `get_http_headers_from_filename`
which will take the name of the HTTP header (key) and then return a
corresponding method (in a decorator-like fashion) which could then be
equated to fixture_to_headers in headers.py.

The GitHub integration was modified to use this method and the docs
were updated to suggest using this when possible.

Eeshan Garg cfe0f6b56d webhooks/clubhouse: Account for bug in GitHub branch payloads.
This change was prompted by a possible bug on Clubhouse's end. In
general, if a branch is added, it also prompts a workflow state
transition in its primary story.

However, our webhook error logs show an erroneous payload where
the same branch is added to another story, but there is no
workflow state transition. Also, both the stories are grouped in
the same payload, which confused/broke our code. Ideally, this
shouldn't happen and is most likely a bug on Clubhouse's end.
In most cases, changes included in Clubhouse payloads never
pertain to more than one parent entity (stories) simultaneously,

A check suite is a collection of check runs. We care a lot more

A key part of this is the new helper, get_user_by_delivery_email. Its

Unfortunately, it requires detailed understanding of the context to
figure out which one to use; each is used in about half of call sites.

Another important note is that this PR doesn't migrate get_user calls
in the tests except where not doing so would cause the tests to fail.
This probably deserves a follow-up refactor to avoid bugs here.

Recent changes merged in #10877 didn't handle these events
correctly. The linkified_id function breaks for the `discount`
object in the JSON payload. A cursory glance at Stripe's docs
tells me that since a discount is associated with a customer

an ID that can necessarily be linked to. So, we can just link
to the associated coupon instead.

Tim Abbott 1abb1447df stripe: Be more explicit about the valid set of event types.
Previously, the Stripe webhook code was riddled with implicit
assertions that there were exactly N event types within a given
category, and we handled the last one in a final `else` clause in the

we're missing an event type (or Stripe adds a new one).

We fix this by just adding a few more conditionals and raising the
standard "unexpected event type" exception for the others.

Eeshan Garg 006e47198c webhooks/jira: Decode stream name on our end.
Recently, one of our users reported that a JIRA webhook was not
able to send messages to a stream with a space character in its
name. Turns out that JIRA does something weird with webhook URLs,
such that escaped space characters (%20) are escaped again, so
that when the request gets to Zulip, the double escaped %20 is
evaluated as the literal characters `%20`, and not as a space.

We fix this by unescaping the stream name on our end before
sending the message forward!

Eeshan Garg 4c0890e8b0 webhooks/github: Handle empty 'requested_reviewers' key.
We recently received a bug report that implied that for certain
payloads, the `requested_reviewers` key was empty whereas a
singular `requested_reviewer` key containing one reviewer's
information was present in its stead. Naturally, this raised
some not so pretty IndexError exceptions.

After some investigation and generating a few similar payloads,
I discovered that in every case both the `requested_reviewers`
and the `requested_reviewer` keys were correctly populated, so I
had to manually edit the payload to reproduce the error on my end.

My guess is that this anomaly goes back to when GitHub's reviewer
request feature was new and didn't support requesting multiple
reviewers, and that the singular `requested_reviewer` key could
possibly just be there for backwards compatibility or might just
be mere oversight. Either way, the solution here is to look for the
plural `requested_reviewers` key, and if that is empty, fall back
to the singular `requested_reviewer` key.

Eeshan Garg d8101ca139 webhooks/bitbucket2: Improve test coverage.
The lack of coverage was due to:

* An unused function that was never used anywhere.
* get_commit_status_changed_body was using a regex where it didn't
really need to use one. And there was an if statement that
assumed that the payload might NOT contain the URL to the commit.
However, I checked the payload and there shouldn't be any instances
where a commit event is generated but there is no URL to the commit.
* get_push_tag_body had an `else` condition that really can't happen
in any payload. I verified this by checking the BitBucket webhook

Eeshan Garg 185a023745 webhooks/beanstalk: Improve test coverage.
We shouldn't just ignore exceptions when encoding the incoming
auth credentials. Even if the incoming credentials are properly
encoded, it is better to know when that is the case or if
something else fails.

The TeamCity webhook plugin supports multiple payload formats that
are customized to be used by different services such as Slack,
Flowdock, etc. We don't support such payloads, so we should ignore
them and stick to parsing only the generic ones. We should also
notify that bot owner about the error.

Yago González f6219745de users: Get all API keys via wrapper method.
Now reading API keys from a user is done with the get_api_key wrapper
method, rather than directly fetching it from the user object.

Also, every place where an action should be done for each API key is now
using get_all_api_keys. This method returns for the moment a single-item
list, containing the specified user's API key.

This commit is the first step towards allowing users have multiple API
keys.

Eeshan Garg 4a54e8ac17 webhooks/bitbucket2: Include title in message body if not in topic.
This is a follow-up in response to Tim's comments on #9951.

In instances where all messages from a BitBucket integration are
grouped under one user specified topic (specified in the URL), we
should include the title of the PR in the message body, since
the availability of a user-specified topic precludes us from
including it in the topic itself (which was the default behaviour).

Eeshan Garg a9a0d63a54 webhooks/gitlab: Include title in message body if not in topic.

In instances where all messages from a Gitlab integration are

Eeshan Garg 67045d65a9 webhooks/gitlab: Include title in Issue Hook event messages.
We already include the issue title in the topic. But if one chooses
to group all gitlab notifications under one topic, the message body
is misleading in the sense that only the Issue ID and the description
are displayed, not the title, which isn't super helpful if the topic
doesn't tell you the title either.

I think we should err on the side of always including the title in
the main message body, which is what this commit does.

Fixes #9913.

Anders Kaseorg 037f696d26 Enable pycodestyle W605 (invalid escape sequence).
The only changes visible at the AST level, checked using
https://github.com/asottile/astpretty, are

zerver/lib/test_fixtures.py:
'\x1b\\[(1|0)m' ↦ '\\x1b\\[(1|0)m'
'\\[[X| ]\\] (\\d+_.+)\n' ↦ '\\[[X| ]\\] (\\d+_.+)\\n'

which is fine because re treats '\\x1b' and '\\n' the same way as
'\x1b' and '\n'.

Eeshan Garg 04ed123214 webhooks/github: Be more explicit about unsupported PR events.
This was technically a bug. For events that aren't unsupported
intentionally, the control should fall to the line that raises
UnknownWebhookEventType, and shouldn't be handled by anything else.

The events that are intentionally unsupported should be handled
more explicitly.

Eeshan Garg 05b752bd3f webhooks/trello: Mention that Trello script can be run from anywhere.
This is one of those weird webhooks where the
download-python-bindings.md macro doesn't work, because the user
only needs the bindings to run the one-time Trello script to register
the webhook and that script can be run from anywhere and doesn't need
to be "hosted" anywhere.

Eeshan Garg e0ef831993 webhooks: Migrate to UnexpectedWebhookEventType.
This improves test coverage for a lot of our webhooks that relied
on ad-hoc methods to handle unexpected event types.

Note that I have deliberately skipped github_legacy, it isn't
advertised and is officially deprecated.

Also, I have refrained from making further changes to Trello, I
believe further improvements to test coverage should be covered
in separate per-webhook commits/PRs.

Eeshan Garg 2aa044d327 webhooks/librato: Stop advertising Snapshot notifications.
We ask our users to enable Snapshot notifications in Zulip via
Slack! But our Slack integration isn't exactly super robust and
I checked and our librato implementation isn't super smart about
handling snapshot payloads that come in via Slack.

Overall, this seems like a very poor solution, asking the user
to set up Slack in order to get the notifications in Zulip. So, I
thought we should get rid of at least the docs that suggest doing
this.

I also read librato/view.py and it wasn't clear to me how Slack
is supposed to act as an intermediate service here in a reliable
manner, which is another reason to not advertise this.
