Now when we want to measure how long a block
of code takes to execute, we just wrap it with
`blueslip.measure_time`, instead of the awkward
idiom from my original commit of getting a callback
function.
My rationale for the original scheme was that I
wanted to minimize diffs and avoid changing
`const` to `let` in a few cases, but I believe
now that the function wrapper is nicer.
In a few cases I just removed the blueslip timing
code, since I was able to confirm on czo that
the times were pretty minimal.
This removes a bit of complexity. If a piece of
settings code needs to render a stream with
subscribers, it just asks for it.
We no longer have the brittle, action-at-a-distance
mechanism of mutating the subscriber count on to
the stream_data version of a sub.
Stream subs are pretty small, so making copies of
them is cheap, and the blueslip timings from the
previous commit can help confirm that.
There is some discussion of putting `subscriber_count`
on the Stream model, which may eventually get us
away from tracking it in `peer_data.js`, but we will
cross that bridge when we get there. See
https://github.com/zulip/zulip/issues/17101 for
more details.
Instead of prohibiting ‘return undefined’ (#8669), we require that a
function must return an explicit value always or never. This prevents
you from forgetting to return a value in some cases. It will also be
important for TypeScript, which distinguishes between undefined and
void.

".stream-info-title" selector is used to hide both
"#add_new_stream_title" and "#stream_settings_title"
classes. This will be helpful when we add new html
elements to display in the title area..
`clear_edit_panel` can be removed as the next line to
where it is called makes it redundant, we only need
to de-select the stream row, as done in this commit.
Since the subscriptions container contains multiple toggler components,
it is helpful to know that the function's tab key returns all the active
tabs in the page (currently there are 2). Thus `tab` is changed to `tabs`.
Also, which togglers tab data is being used has been made more specific.
ES and TypeScript modules are strict by default and don’t need this
directive. ESLint will remind us to add it to new CommonJS files and
remove it from ES and TypeScript modules.

Prior to commit eb4a2b9d4e the center
area of the navbar was based on a structure that appended crumbs or
"tabs" as <li>s, forming a tab_bar and a tab_list.
However, in eb4a2b9d4e we apply a new
style and structure to the navbar which lets go of the convention of
tabs. Hence, we'd like to purge the tab_bar and tab_list labels from
our code base.
We purged tab_list in 1267caf5009118875f47fdafe312880af08024e1.
This commit purges tab_bar, it includes:
- A blanket search and replace of tab_bar with message_view_header.
- Splitting a single line comment in
tab_bar.js / message_view_header.js.
- The renaming of tab_bar.js to message_view_header.js.
- The renaming of tab_bar.hbs to message_view_header.hbs.
- A blanket search and replace of tab_data with
message_view_header_data.
- Replacing the single occurrence of tabbar with message_view_header
(it was within a comment.)
The status_element parameter is optional, and the other caller in
stream_popover.js does not provide it. This fixes a regression in
commit e6a66063a9 (#15868).

Listen to change events from the checkbox and pay attention to its
actual value, rather than simulating it by toggling booleans on click

Previously, the navbar sub count would not live update as users
subscribed or unsubscribed, this commit adds the relevant calls in
stream events.
It would have been better to just have a single call within
server_events_dispatch but it seems difficult due to the way of
mark_subscribed and mark_unsubscribed are structured.
stream_events.mark_unsubscribed conditionally calls
subs.update_settings_for_unsubscribed which calls
subs.rerender_subscriptions_settings and as such handles the update
for the subscriptions modal on its own. Hence, we simply rely on the
stream_data.update_calculated_fields to ensure the subscriber counts
are updated and make a call to
tab_bar.maybe_rerender_title_area_for_stream(sub).
stream_events.mark_subscribed is similar.
Previously, we had the lines from this block being duplicated in all
the stream update paths, which is a little brittle.
Hence, in this commit, we extract it out with a comment explaining
what it does and call it in all the duplicated spots.
There is a bug when clicking on the stream row in stream settings page
subscribes/unsubscribes the user from stream. The ideal behaviour
should be that user should be subscribed/unsubscribed only
when user clicks on tick icon. The buggy behaviour is visible only after
clicking the tick icon once.
This is because clicking on tick is adding sub_unsub_button class to the
stream row, while it should be added only to the ".check" element to
re-enable the button to handle requests.
This commit fixes the bug by adding the "sub_unsub_button" class to
".check" element only and not to the stream row and same change
is done for removing the "sub_unsub_button" class also.
The previous element passed was a simplebar container which calculated
the incorrect height, thus `scroll_util.scroll_element_into_container`
had no effect.
This commit fixes the UI for stream message retention days to allow
only owners to set or update the setting.
We hide the setting for non-owners in the stream creation form and
disable it in the stream_privacy_modal.
Fixes a part of #15558.
This commit removes the click handler used for
'empty_feed_sub_unsub' class.
This class was used only in home.html and was replaced
by 'stream_sub_unsub_button' in 576be51.
This commit adds message retention policy details in the subscription_type
text below the stream description.
We do not show any text when realm-level settings is set to forever and
stream-level is set to either forever or realm_default.
This commit adds frontend support for setting and updating message
retention days of a stream from stream settings.
Message retention days can be changed from stream privacy modal of the
stream and can be set from stream_creation_form while creating streams.
Only admins can create streams with message_retention_days value other
than realm_default.
This commit also contains relevant changes to docs.
In commit 4f6377d493 we added
`_stream_params` as a way of storing attributes such as stream name
and stream privacy, this involved adding a few calls within functions
that updated these values (in order to maintain consistency).
This commit replaces `_stream_params` with an always consistent `_sub`
object and removes unnecessary `_stream_params` related code. Once the
`_sub` object is available, calls to `stream_data` may be considered
suspicious as they can often be avoided by just picking the desired
attribute off of the `_sub` object.
Previously the navbar did not live update the stream name correctly.
The correct behaviour was blocked on the `_stream_name` prop on the
filter object. The original purpose for maintaining this prop was
convenience, to reduce calls to `subs`, however, it would become
inconsistent with the value from `subs` on stream rename.
In this commit we add a call to `filter.fix_stream_params` in
`subs.update_stream_name`. This fixes live rerendering in the navbar,
despite the fact that searchbox in the nav (and the filter object via
`filter.operands("stream")[0]`) will still have the old name.
This is a slightly hacky way of masking some of the problems in the
Filter object. However, it should make do until we migrate to a stream
ID based state there.
Fixes: #14728.
Prior to this commit the icon in the navbar didn't live update to
reflect changes in stream privacy.
Here, we add a call to `tab_bar.render_title_area` in
`subs.update_stream_privacy()`, to enable live updates on the icon.
Fixes#14728.
The navbar currently does not live update the stream icon correctly
for changes in stream privacy.
One place where the correct behaviour gets blocked is on the
`_is_stream_private` prop in the filter object. We keep props such as
this for convenience, to reduce calls to `subs`, however, this prop
becomes inconsistent with the value we get from `subs` when the stream
privacy is updated.
In this commit we add a call to `filter.fix_stream_params` in
`subs.update_stream_privacy`. This change does not fix the live
rerendering in the navbar because we don't call redraw yet, but
it's a prep commit to towards that goal
A comment about the difficulties relating to live updating stream
names in the navbar was incorrectly placed within the function for
live updating stream descriptions in
023187b3f1.
This moves the comment to the right place.
It's safer and cleaner to simply just rerender the entire navbar for
small updates like these since they're rare events. Given that we're
not doing anything unique in such updates, it's best if we just call
".render_tab_bar" wherever required instead of having several
functions in tab_bar.js which do exactly that. This also sets a good
precedence of what to do for stream privacy and subscriber count live
update.
However, we can't easily fix the "subs.update_stream_name" code path
because of how the Filter objects represent the stream by name, not be
ID. Given that the above would be out of scope for this change, it's
left as a TODO.
Previously, the unsubscribe logic just called
exports.show_subs_pane.nothing_selected() if one had been viewing the
edit UI for a stream that the user just unsubscribed from, which
clears the selection, but didn't update the hash or do other cleanup
logic.
We should instead be calling stream_edit.open_edit_panel_empty(),
which is the appropriate function for this purpose (and has
exports.show_subs_pane.nothing_selected as a subroutine).
"Saving" widget was working for all personal stream settings but "Mute
notifications". This was because the change to the "Mute" property follows
a slightly different path.
Before we used a selector to check whether the "Subscribed" tab
is active or not. The problem is that if a new sibling of the tab
switcher is inserted in the DOM and uses the same classes as the
"Subscribed" and "All Streams" button do, the selector can get
the sibling element instead the tab button.
To avoid that, we are using a variable that tracks the current
active tab instead of using the selector.
If you were on "All Streams" tab and unsubscribed to a private
stream, that stream row would momentarily disappear. If you
click again on "All Streams" button, it would appear again.
The problem was that the selector was finding two elements
instead of just the tab element. To solve this we used a more
specific selector to make sure we are getting the Subscribed
tab only.
The click handler for closing stream settings in click_handlers.js
is removed as overlays.js contains common logic for closing all
overlays.
'exports.close' in subs.js is removed and 'hashchange.exit_overlay'
is used in 'overlays.open_overlay' call.
