Version History
All notable changes to the Zulip server are documented in this file.
Unreleased
There are some significant database migrations that will be in the
next release that can take a long time to run. Fortunately, these can
be run without downtime before the rest of the upgrade, by using the
following postgres queries (run these inside manage.py dbshell
):
CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY
zerver_usermessage_mentioned_message_id
ON zerver_usermessage (user_profile_id, message_id)
WHERE (flags & 8) != 0;
CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY
zerver_usermessage_starred_message_id
ON zerver_usermessage (user_profile_id, message_id)
WHERE (flags & 2) != 0;
For context on the impact of running these migrations, creating these
indexes took about 1 minute each with chat.zulip.org's 75M UserMessage
rows (from select COUNT(*) from zerver_usermessage;
), with no
user-facing service disruption.
