Aman Agrawal fbe9a9e539 left_side_userlist: Remove feature from frontend.
Fixes #23517.

While this feature was added to Zulip very early, it has been troubled
for most of that time; it never looked great visually, had a lot of
implementation complexity around resize.js, and has a weird model (a
setting that changes the UI only in certain window sizes).

This option is not commonly used; while a significant portion of users
have it enabled, many of them just don't use window sizes where it
actually has an effect. So it's not clear that it will be missed if
removed; we got very few bug reports when it was completely broken for
a few days after we first integrated the new left sidebar private
messages design.

Even with it no longer being broken, it does not work very well with
the addition of the new PMs section in the left sidebar. (Having two
scrollbars in the sidebar looks quite awkward.) The new private
messages section in the left sidebar also addresses some of the use
cases for always keeping the Users list always visible, even in narrow
windows.

This option is only removed from frontend for now. To make this
decision easily reversible, the backend code of this feature
is still kept.

Anders Kaseorg 64b78ad992 styles: Use range context queries to eliminate *_max variables.
On a high-DPI display or with a non-default zoom level, the browser
viewport may have a width strictly between md_max = 767px and md_min =
768px. Use only the *_min bounds for consistency.

This requires queries with strict inequalities to express upper
bounds (width < md_min). Fortunately, that functionality is provided
by range context queries. Unfortunately, those are not supported in
all browsers. Fortunately, we can compile them away using
postcss-media-minmax. Unfortunately, postcss-media-minmax currently
subtracts 1px for strict inequalities anyway to work around a Safari
rounding bug. Fortunately, 0.02px should be sufficient for that, so I
submitted a PR:

Aman Agrawal e941ee4a15 media_query: Use 767px instead of 775px as md breakpoint.
We use 767px for hiding left column.

The components changed here were tested to be working fine.

This change is not likely to introduce any regression as the
calculations in the components here were not dependent upon the
breakpoint being at 775px.

We use 1199px for hiding right column.

The components changed here were tested to be working fine.

This change is not likely to introduce any regression as the
calculations in the components here were not dependent upon the
breakpoint being at 1165px.

Anders Kaseorg a3d26d701e styles: Rename .scss files back to .css.
css-loader@4 broke @import statements referencing files with
extensions other than .css, unless those @import statements are
compiled away by another loader. Upstream is more interested in
arguing that such @import statements are semantically incorrect than
applying the one line fix.

Armaan Ahluwalia 5f7b47e20c css: Transition 'app.css' to SCSS.
This commit transitions all styles in app.css in the Django pipeline
to being compiled by webpack in an app-styles bundle, and renames the
various files to now be processed as SCSS.

To implement this transition, we move the old CSS file refernces in
settings.py and replace them with a bundle declared in
`webpack.assets.json` and includedn in the index.html template

Tweaked by tabbott to keep the list of files in `app.css` in
`webpack.assets.json`, and to preserve the ordering from the old
`settings.py`.

Arpith Siromoney e073220e21 Add typing notifications front end.
Send typing notification events when user types in the compose box.
Listen for these events and display a notification.

Sending notifications: Notifications are throttled, so that start
notifications are sent every 10 seconds of active typing, and stop
notifications are sent 5 seconds after active typing stops or when the
compose box is closed.

Displaying notifications:
When a typing notification is received, if the current narrow is private
messages or is: pm-with and the user is not the sender,
"Othello is typing..." is displayed underneath the last message. This notification is
removed after 15 seconds. If another notification is received during this period, the
expiration is extended. When a stop notification is received the notification is removed.

Internally, a list of users currently typing is maintained for each
conversation (in a dict). When an event is received the list (for the appropriate
conversation) is updated and the notifications template is re-rendered
based on the narrow information. This template is also re-rendered when
the narrow changes.

Significantly modified by tabbott for clarity.

Fixes #150.
