This prep commit moves the 'rename_indexes_constraints'
function to 'lib/migrate' as we're going to re-use it for
the 'UserHotspot' to 'OnboardingStep' table rename operation.
In general, this function would be helpful in migrations
involving table rename operations, subject to the caution
mentioned in the function via comments.
This commit adds a new option 'DMs, mentions, and followed topics'
to 'desktop_icon_count_display' setting.
The total unread count of DMs, mentions, and followed topics appears
in desktop sidebar and browser tab when this option is configured.
Some existing options are relabeled and renumbered. We finally have:
* All unread messages
* DMs, mentions, and followed topics
* DMs and mentions
* None

This commit adds new setting for controlling who can access
all users in the realm which would have "Everyone" and
"Members only" option.
Fixes part of #10970.
Rename the existing 'wildcard_mentioned' flag to
'stream_wildcard_mentioned'.
The 'wildcard_mentioned' flag is deprecated and exists for
backwards compatibility.
We have two separate flags for stream and topic wildcard mentions,
i.e., 'stream_wildcard_mentioned' and 'topic_wildcard_mentioned',
respectively.
* stream wildcard mentions: `@all`, `@everyone`, and `@stream`
* topic wildcard mentions: `@topic`
The `wildcard_mentioned` flag is included in the events and
API response if either `stream_wildcard_mentioned` or
`topic_wildcard_mentioned` is set.
In c37871ac3a, we renamed the
two unused and historical bits of the 'flags' bitfield of
the 'UserMessage' table:
* 'summarize_in_home' to 'topic_wildcard_mentioned'
* 'summarize_in_stream' to 'group_mentioned'
This commit clears out the old data for those bits.
Additionally, we are clearing 'force_expand' and 'force_collapse'
unused flags to save future work.
This commit renames the two unused and historical bits of the
'fields' bitfield of the 'UserMessage' and 'ArchivedUserMessage'
tables.
* 'summarize_in_home' to 'topic_wildcard_mentioned'
* 'summarize_in_stream' to 'group_mentioned'
The 'group_mentioned' flag doesn't affect the feature,
but completing the work here helps to save future migration
and indexing efforts on the UserMessage table, as we plan to
use this flag in the future for group mentions.
The unused bits may have old data; we'll clear that in
a separate commit.
It creates the 'zerver_usermessage_any_mentioned_message_id'
index concurrently.
In this commit, we add a new dropdown 'Organization language' on
the `/new` and `/realm/register` pages. This dropdown allows setting
the language of the organization during its creation. This allows
messages from Welcome Bot and introductory messages in streams to be
internationalized.
Fixes a part of #25729.
This commit renames default_view and escape_navigates_to_default_view
settings to web_home_view and web_escape_navigates_to_home_view in
database and API to match with our recent renaming of user facing
strings related to this.
We also rename the variables, functions, comments in code and class
names and IDs for elements related to this.
Now that we're enabling the feature in the UI, we should set
these to the planned long-term defaults for these settings.
Also, this commit cleans up the '0476' and '0477' migration
files related to user_topic policies.
'0476' sets 'null=True'
'0477' is noop
'0482' sets the default values and performs backfilling.

Thisi and the following commit follow the approach used in
3e2ad84bbe.
First migration requires a server restart - after that any new realms
will be created with the columns set.
The following migrations are in the next commit:
Second migration does a backfill for older realms and can run in the
background while the server is operating normally.
Third migration enforces null=False now that all realms have the columns
set.
This commit adds two user settings, named
* `automatically_follow_topics_policy`
* `automatically_unmute_topics_in_muted_streams_policy`
The settings control the user's preference on which topics they
will automatically 'follow' or 'unmute in muted streams'.
The policies offer four options:
1. Topics I participate in
2. Topics I send a message to
3. Topics I start
4. Never (default)
There is no support for configuring the settings through the UI yet.
This commit adds a `jitsi_server_url` field to the Realm model, which
will be used to save the URL of the custom Jitsi Meet server. In
the database, `None` will encode the server-level default. We can't
readily use `None` in the API, as it could be confused with "field not
sent". Therefore, we will use the string "default" for this purpose.
We have also introduced `server_jitsi_server_url` in the `/register`
API. This will be used to display the server's default Jitsi server
URL in the settings UI.
The existing `jitsi_server_url` will now be calculated as
`realm_jitsi_server_url || server_jitsi_server_url`.

This is designed to help PostgreSQL have better specificity and
locality in its indexes. Subsequent commits will adjust the code to
make sure that we use these indexes rather than the `realm_id`-less
versions.
We do not add a `realm_id` variation to the full-text index, since
it is a GIN index; multi-column GIN indexes are not terribly
performant, require the `btree_gin` extension for `int` types (which
requires superuser privileges on PostgreSQL 12 and earlier), and
cannot be consistently added concurrently on running instances.
After all indexes have been made, we also run `CREATE STATISTICS` in
order to give PostgreSQL the opportunity to realize that recipient and
sender are highly correlated with message realm, allowing it to
estimate that `(realm_id, recipient_id)` is likely as specific as
matching a given `recipient_id`, instead of as likely as matching
`realm_id` times matching a `recipient_id`. Finally, those statistics
must be filled by `ANALYZE zerver_message`, which is run last.
_default_manager is the same as objects on most of our models. But
when a model class is stored in a variable, the type system doesn’t
know which model the variable is referring to, so it can’t know that
objects even exists (Django doesn’t add it if the user added a custom
manager of a different name). django-stubs used to incorrectly assume
it exists unconditionally, but it no longer does.

Commit cf0eb46afc added this to let
Django understand the CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY statement that had
been hidden in a RunSQL query in migration 0244. However, migration
0245 explained that same index to Django in a different way by setting
db_index=True. Move that to 0244 where the index is actually created,
using SeparateDatabaseAndState.
Also remove the part of the SQL in 0245 that was mirrored by dummy
state_operations, and replace it with real operations.

Migrates existing ScheduledEmails for onboarding emails that have
either "zerver/emails/followup_day1" or "zerver/emails/followup_day2"

"zerver/emails/zulip_onboarding_topics".
This migration applies under the assumption that extra_data_json has
been populated for all existing and coming audit log entries.
- This removes the manual conversions back and forth for extra_data
throughout the codebase including the orjson.loads(), orjson.dumps(),
and str() calls.
- The custom handler used for converting Decimal is removed since
DjangoJSONEncoder handles that for extra_data.
- We remove None-checks for extra_data because it is now no longer
nullable.
- Meanwhile, we want the bouncer to support processing RealmAuditLog entries for
remote servers before and after the JSONField migration on extra_data.
- Since now extra_data should always be a dict for the newer remote
server, which is now migrated, the test cases are updated to create
RealmAuditLog objects by passing a dict for extra_data before
sending over the analytics data. Note that while JSONField allows for
non-dict values, a proper remote server always passes a dict for
extra_data.
- We still test out the legacy extra_data format because not all
remote servers have migrated to use JSONField extra_data.
This verifies that support for extra_data being a string or None has not
been dropped.

This adds API support to reorder linkifiers and makes sure that the
returned lists of linkifiers from `GET /events`, `POST /register`, and
`GET /realm/linkifiers` are always sorted with the order that they
should processed when rendering linkifiers.
We set the new `order` field to the ID with the migration. This
preserves the order of the existing linkifiers.
New linkifiers added will always be ordered the last. When reordering,
the `order` field of all linkifiers in the same realm is updated, in
a manner similar to how we implement ordering for
`custom_profile_fields`.

'NotificationTriggers' class to 'DIRECT_MESSAGE'.
Custom migration to update the existing value in the database.
It includes 'TODO/compatibility' code to support the old

push notification queue during the Zulip server upgrades.
Earlier 'private_message' was one of the possible values for the
'trigger' property of the '[`POST /zulip-outgoing-webhook`]' response;
Update the docs to reflect the change in the above-mentioned trigger
value.

This commit updates `0455_set_default_for_can_mention_group`
migration to be more efficient when running for a large number
of UserGroup objects.
Previously, we did a loop over all UserGroup objects and
then did a `bulk_update`. All this happened in a single
transaction and the transaction was being hold for
unacceptably long time for a server with large number
of user groups. Also the SQL generated by Django for
`bulk_update` took almost quadratic time to evaluate,
as the SQL had linear length "CASE" statement which was
being resolved for each row.
We instead now use ".update" so that we can write the migration
without using loop and update the objects in batches of size
1000 so that we do not hold a transaction for very long time.
This also helps in avoiding the inefficient SQL that was being
executed due to using `bulk_update`.
We also update the queries to exclude the groups that already
have `can_mention_group` set to a non-null value, as this will
help in migration completing quickly when running it more than
once.
Updates the realm field `default_code_block_language` to have a default
value of an empty string instead of None. Also updates the web-app to
check for the empty string and not `null` to indicate no default is set.
This means that both new realms and existing realms that have no default
set will have the same value for this setting: an empty string.
Previously, new realms would have None if no default was set, while realms
that had set and then unset a value for this field would have an empty
string when no default was set.
It’s unclear what was supposed to be “safe” about this wrapper. The
hashlib API is fine without it, and we don’t want to encourage further
use of SHA-1.

This commit completes the notifications part of the @topic
wildcard mention feature.
Notifications are sent to the topic participants for the
@topic wildcard mention.
This migration is reasonably complex because of various anomalies in existing
data.
Note that there are cases when extra_data does not contain data that is
proper json with possibly single quotes. Thus we need to use
"ast.literal_eval" to cover that.
There is also a special case for "event_type == USER_FULL_NAME_CHANGED",
where extra_data is a plain str. This event_type is only used for
RealmAuditLog, so the zilencer migration script does not need to handle
it.
The migration does not handle "event_type == REALM_DISCOUNT_CHANGED"
because ast.literal_eval only allow Python literals. We expect the admin
to populate the jsonified extra_data for extra_data_json manually
beforehand.
This chunks the backfilling migration to reduce potential block time.
The migration for zilencer is mostly similar to the one for zerver; except that
the backfill helper is added in a wrapper and unrelated events are
removed.
**Logging and error recovery**
We print out a warning when the extra_data_json field of an entry
would have been overwritten by a value inconsistent with what we derived
from extra_data. Usually this only happens when the extra_data was
corrupted before this migration. This prevents data loss by backing up
possibly corrupted data in extra_data_json with the keys
"inconsistent_old_extra_data" and "inconsistent_old_extra_data_json".
More roundtrips to the database are needed for inconsistent data, which are
expected to be infrequent.
This also outputs messages when there are audit log entries with decimals,
indicating that such entries are not backfilled. Do note that audit log
entries with decimals are not populated with "inconsistent_old_extra_data_*"
in the JSONField, because they are not overwritten.
For such audit log entries with "extra_data_json" marked as inconsistent,
we skip them in the migration. Because when we have discovered anomalies in a
previous run, there is no need to overwrite them again nesting the extra keys
we added to it.
**Testing**
We create a migration test case utilizing the property of bulk_create
that it doesn't call our modified save method.
We extend ZulipTestCase to support verifying console output at the test
case level. The implementation is crude but the use case should be rare
enough that we don't need it to be too elaborate.

since we have added a restricion on having user group names

We also add a migration in this commit to update the name of
role-based system groups in existing realms to remove "@"
from the name. This migration also updates the names of
non-system user groups by removing the invalid prefixes
from their names and if there is a group already with that
name, we insted name the group as "group:{group_id}".

This prep commit replaces the 'wildcard' keyword in the codebase
with 'stream_wildcard' at some places for better readability, as
we plan to introduce 'topic_wildcards' as a part of the
'@topic mention' project.
Currently, 'wildcards = ["all", "everyone", "stream"]' which is an
alias to mention everyone in the stream, hence better renamed as
'stream_wildcards'.
Eventually, we will have:
'stream_wildcard' as an alias to mention everyone in the stream.
'topic_wildcard' as an alias to mention everyone in the topic.
'wildcard' refers to 'stream_wildcard' and 'topic_wildcard' as a whole.
This commit makes it possible for users to control the wildcard
mention notifications for messages sent to followed topics
via a global notification setting.
There is no support for configuring this setting
through the UI yet.
This commit makes it possible for users to control
the email notifications for messages sent to followed topics
via a global notification setting.
Although there is no support for configuring this setting
through the UI yet.
Add five new fields to the UserBaseSettings class for
the "followed topic notifications" feature, similar to
stream notifications. But this commit consists only of
the implementation of email notifications.
Note that we use the DjangoJSONEncoder so that we have builtin support
for parsing Decimal and datetime.
During this intermediate state, the migration that creates
extra_data_json field has been run. We prepare for running the backfilling
migration that populates extra_data_json from extra_data.
This change implements double-write, which is important to keep the
state of extra data consistent. For most extra_data usage, this is
handled by the overriden `save` method on `AbstractRealmAuditLog`, where
we either generates extra_data_json using orjson.loads or
ast.literal_eval.
While backfilling ensures that old realm audit log entries have
extra_data_json populated, double-write ensures that any new entries
generated will also have extra_data_json set. So that we can then safely
rename extra_data_json to extra_data while ensuring the non-nullable
invariant.
For completeness, we additionally set RealmAuditLog.NEW_VALUE for
the USER_FULL_NAME_CHANGED event. This cannot be handled with the
overridden `save`.
This addresses: https://github.com/zulip/zulip/pull/23116#discussion_r1040277795
Note that extra_data_json at this point is not used yet. So the test
cases do not need to switch to testing extra_data_json. This is later
done after we rename extra_data_json to extra_data.
Double-write for the remote server audit logs is special, because we only
get the dumped bytes from an external source. Luckily, none of the
payload carries extra_data that is not generated using orjson.dumps for
audit logs of event types in SYNC_BILLING_EVENTS. This can be verified
by looking at:
`git grep -A 6 -E "event_type=.*(USER_CREATED|USER_ACTIVATED|USER_DEACTIVATED|USER_REACTIVATED|USER_ROLE_CHANGED|REALM_DEACTIVATED|REALM_REACTIVATED)"`
Therefore, we just need to populate extra_data_json doing an
orjson.loads call after a None-check.

It turns out that for some some deployments, there exists a second,
duplicate, foreign key constraint for user_profile_id. The logic below
would try to rename both to the same name, which would fail on the
second:
```
psycopg2.errors.DuplicateObject: constraint "zerver_userpresenceo_user_profile_id_d75366d6_fk_zerver_us" for relation "zerver_userpresence" already exists
```
Eliminate the duplicate constraint, rather than attempting to rename
it. Also add a block, in case of future reuse of this pattern, which
caveats that this approach will not work in the presence of
explicitly-named indexes. UserPresence happens to not have any, so
this technique is safe in this instance.

This code clearly meant to return host and returning realm.host is a
mistake. realm.host is not accessible in a migration due to being a
@property-decorated method. The code constructs the host var value just
above this line.
This prevents `get_user_profile_by_api_key` from doing a sequential
scan.
Doing this requires moving the generation of initial api_key values
into the column definition, so that even bare calls to
`UserProfile.objects.create` (e.g. from tests) call appropriately
generate a random initial value.
Backfill subscription realm audit log SUBSCRIPTION_CREATED events for
users which are currently subscribed but don't have any subscription
events, presumably due to some historical bug. This is important
because those rows are necessary when reactivating a user who is
currently soft-deactivated.
For each stream, we find the subscribed users who have no
subscription-related realm audit log entries, and create a
`backfill=True` subscription audit log entry which is the latest it
could have been, based on UserMessage rows. We then optionally insert
a `DEACTIVATION` if the current subscription is not active.
Previously, it seemed possible for the scheduled messages API to try
to send infinite copies of a message if we had the very poor luck of a
persistent failure happening after a message was sent.
The failure_message field supports being able to display what happened
in the scheduled messages modal, though that's not exposed to the API
yet.
Fixes#25414.
We add Attachment.scheduled_messages relation to track ScheduledMessages
which reference the attachment.
The import bits can be done after merging this, by updating #25345.
This was doing bulk_create in a loop for each realm, which is too slow
on very large servers. Just do a single bulk_create with a reasonable
batch_size at the end.
This implements the core of the rewrite described in:
For the backend data model for UserPresence to one that supports much
more efficient queries and is more correct around handling of multiple
clients. The main loss of functionality is that we no longer track
which Client sent presence data (so we will no longer be able to say
using UserPresence "the user was last online on their desktop 15
minutes ago, but was online with their phone 3 minutes ago"). If we
consider that information important for the occasional investigation
query, we have can construct that answer data via UserActivity
already. It's not worth making Presence much more expensive/complex
to support it.
For slim_presence clients, this sends the same data format we sent
before, albeit with less complexity involved in constructing it. Note
that we at present will always send both last_active_time and
last_connected_time; we may revisit that in the future.
This commit doesn't include the finalizing migration, which drops the
UserPresenceOld table.
The way to deploy is to start the backfill migration with the server
down and then start the server *without* the user_presence queue worker,
to let the migration finish without having new data interfering with it.
Once the migration is done, the queue worker can be started, leading to
the presence data catching up to the current state as the queue worker
goes over the queued up events and updating the UserPresence table.

This swaps out url_format_string from all of our APIs and replaces it
with url_template. Note that the documentation changes in the following
commits will be squashed with this commit.
We change the "url_format" key to "url_template" for the
realm_linkifiers events in event_schema, along with updating
LinkifierDict. "url_template" is the name chosen to normalize
mixed usages of "url_format_string" and "url_format" throughout
the backend.
The markdown processor is updated to stop handling the format string
interpolation and delegate the task template expansion to the uri_template
library instead.
This change affects many test cases. We mostly just replace "%(name)s"
with "{name}", "url_format_string" with "url_template" to make sure that
they still pass. There are some test cases dedicated for testing "%"
escaping, which aren't relevant anymore and are subject to removal.
But for now we keep most of them as-is, and make sure that "%" is always
escaped since we do not use it for variable substitution any more.
Since url_format_string is not populated anymore, a migration is created
to remove this field entirely, and make url_template non-nullable since
we will always populate it. Note that it is possible to have
url_template being null after migration 0422 and before 0424, but
in practice, url_template will not be None after backfilling and the
backend now is always setting url_template.
With the removal of url_format_string, RealmFilter model will now be cleaned
with URL template checks, and the old checks for escapes are removed.
We also modified RealmFilter.clean to skip the validation when the
url_template is invalid. This avoids raising mulitple ValidationError's
when calling full_clean on a linkifier. But we might eventually want to
have a more centric approach to data validation instead of having
the same validation in both the clean method and the validator.

This is implemented by replacing all matches of "%(var_name)s" in a URL
format string with "{var_name}". Since we do want to ensure that the
templates aren't broken after this migration, a RuntimeError is raised
to let the maintainer know that certain linkifier cannot be converted
automatically if it does not pass the uri_template.validate check.
Also, we need to escape "%%", which is used to represent "%" in the old
format string syntax, as well as "{" and "}", which is a part of the
URL template syntax.

This will later be used to expand matching linkifier patterns.
Making it nullable for now, but we will make it required in
the APIs.
As a part of this transition, we temporarily make url_format_string
nullable as well, which will be later removed. This allows us to
switch to populating url_template without caring about passing
url_format_string.
Note that the validators are imported in the migration because Django
otherwise diffs it and considers the schema to be different, generating
a migration, failing the "tools/test-migrations" test.

208c0c3034 fixed this for new deleted users, but left existing users
with potentially invalid email addresses. This is problematic if the

validate.
Add a migration which attempts to fix these invalid email addresses.
So far, we've used the BitField .authentication_methods on Realm
for tracking which backends are enabled for an organization. This
however made it a pain to add new backends (requiring altering the
column and a migration - particularly troublesome if someone wanted to
create their own custom auth backend for their server).
Instead this will be tracked through the existence of the appropriate
rows in the RealmAuthenticationMethods table.

c7d0192755 added the unique constraint on
`user_profile_id,message_id,reaction_type,emoji_code`, but left the
existing constraint on `user_profile_id,message_id,emoji_name`. As
explained in the comment added in 3cd543ee98, `emoji_name` cannot be
trusted to be unique, as it is possible to have an Unicode emoji
reaction and a custom emoji with the same name on a message.
Remove the overly-constraining unique index, now that c7d0192755 has
provided the correct one.
This commit adds migration to fix extra_data field
of RealmAuditLog objects created on changing
can_remove_subscribers_group setting to add "property"
field since the same event type will now be used for
other group based stream settings that will be added
in future.
This will allow us to rely on the database to detect duplicate
`UserTopic`s (with the same `topic_name` with different cases)
and thus correctly throw IntegrityErrors when expected.
This is also important from a correctness point of view, since as
of now, when checking if topic is muted or requesting the backend for
muting a topic, the frontend does not check for case insensitivity.
There might exist duplicate UserTopics (in a case insensitive sense)
which need are removed before creating the new index.
The migration was tested manually using `./manage.py shell`.

608c787c52 fixed a bug where messages sent by the email gateway "as"
a user failed to properly attribute ownership of their attachments,
leaving the attachments orphaned and thus with nobody with permissions
to view them.
These orphaned attachments only remain longer than a few weeks if the
`delete_unclaimed_attachments` script has not been run reliably.
Since there is currently no shipped cron job for this, that is most
likely all deployments.
Add a migration to find such orphaned attachments, and re-attach them
to their original message. While theoretically the attachments
could have been later referenced in other messages -- which would be
very difficult to find and determine if they had access to the
attachment -- we only fix the original message.
In order to make this somewhat performant, we assume that the Message
rows associated with an Attachment made by the email gateway happened
within 5 minutes, since they must have been made during one HTTP
request.
This is complicated by the message potentially having been deleted; in
this case, the Attachment is moved into ArchivedAttachment, so it can
relate to the ArchivedMessage. The many-to-many
`zerver_archivedattachment_messages` relationship table cannot use its
own `id` sequence for the value, since the `id` is re-used when the
row is inserted into the `zerver_attachment_messages` table -- we
instead consume a value from the `id` sequence of the
`zerver_attachment_messages` table.

This allows us to revoke MultiUseInvites by changing their .status
instead of deleting them (which has been deleting the helpful tracking
information on PreregistrationUsers about which MultiUseInvite they came
from).
This guarantees that the Realm is always non-None when we hit the
codepath is_static_or_current_realm_url via
do_change_stream_description, so that we can properly skip rewritting
some images.

We followed a same approach as in #22611 to mark migrations as noops. We
might eventually squash them.
Migration operations that only change the validators should be removed
as they are essentially noops that do not affect the database schema.
However, ./manage.py makemigration still generates a new migration for
validators change regardless. So we still have to keep one migration
that updates the validators to the latest state. We prefer to keep the
earliest one for this purpose.

This commit adds the OPTIONAL .realm attribute to Message
(and ArchivedMessage), with the server changes for making new Messages
have this set. Old Messages still have to be migrated to backfill this,
before it can be non-nullable.
Appropriate test changes to correctly set .realm for Messages the tests
manually create are included here as well.

SCIMClient is a type-unsafe workaround for django-scim2’s conflation
of SCIM users with Django users. Given that a SCIMClient is not a
UserProfile, it might as well not be a model at all, since it’s only
used to satisfy django-scim2’s request.user.is_authenticated queries.
This doesn’t solve the type safety issue with assigning a SCIMClient
to request.user, nor the performance issue with running the SCIM
middleware on non-SCIM requests. But it reduces the risk of potential
consequences worse than crashing, since there’s no longer a
request.user.id for Django to confuse with the ID of an actual
UserProfile.

We are no longer writing to or reading the UserStatus.status field,
so we delete that from the model.
Fifth step in making user status `away` a deprecated way to access
`presence_enabled` for clients supporting older servers.
Part of transitioning from 'unavailable' user status feature to
'invisible mode' user presence feature.
Now that user status updates with `away=True|False` also update the
user's presence_enabled setting, we do a migration so that users with
`UserStatus.status=AWAY` also have the presence_enabled setting as
False (`away=!presence_enabled`).
Second step in making user status away a deprecated way to access
presence_enabled for clients supporting older servers.
Part of transitioning from 'unavailable' user status feature to
'invisible mode' user presence feature.
To allow `custom_profile_field` to display in user profile popover,
added new boolean field "display_in_profile_summary" in its model class.
In `custom_profile_fields.py`, functions are edited as per conditions,
like currently we can display max 2 `custom_profile_fields` except
`LONG_TEXT` and `USER` type fields.
Default external account custom profile fields made updatable for only
this new field, as previous they were not updatable.

Updates the two UserProfile foreign key fields to have a backward
relation in the MutedUser model by changing the `related_name`
property.
This is a prep commit for removing users with a muted relationship
to the current user from read receipts.
This commit udpates can_remove_subscribers_group to be not null.
We already added a migration to set the value of this field for
existing streams and also added a commit to set this field to
admins system group for now while creating streams.
This migration sets can_remove_subscribers_group value to admins system
group for all the existing streams. In further commit we would change
can_remove_subscribers_group to be not null and thus we add this migration
to ensure all existing streams have this setting value set.
Added a user_list_style personal user setting to the bottom of
Settings > Display settings > Theme section which controls the look
of the right sidebar user list.
The radio button UI includes a preview of what the styles look like.
The setting is intended to eventually have 3 possible values: COMPACT,
WITH_STATUS and WITH_AVATAR; the final value is not yet implemented.

This commit changes the code to consider zero as an invalid value for
message_content_edit_time_limit_seconds. Now to represent the setting that
user can edit the message anytime, the setting value will be "None" in
database and "unlimited" will be passed to API from clients.
Since validators do not affect the database, this migration is a noop.
Removing the migration fails check-database-compatibility. We might
eventually delete it when Django supports a cleaner method for deletion.

There may be some internal realms which were created after applying
"0382_create_role_based_system_groups.py" migration and this migration
is used to create system groups for those realms.
Because Django's ContentType objects are, by default, created lazily
when an actual object is created that will use them, this migration
would fail on any server that actually had RealmReactivationStatus
objects already, and had not yet created the ContentType for them.
ContentType objects are very simple:
zulip=> select * from django_content_type where model = 'realmreactivationstatus';
id | app_label | model
----+-----------+-------------------------
85 | zerver | realmreactivationstatus
So we can simply patch this by using get_or_create.
We now send a new user_topic event while muting and unmuting topics.
fetch_initial_state_data now returns an additional user_topics array to
the client that will maintain the user-topic relationship data.
This will support any future addition of new features to modify the
relationship between a user-topic pair.
This commit adds the relevent backend code and schema for the new
event.
Now that we can assume Python 3.6+, we can use the
email.headerregistry module to replace hacky manual email address
parsing.

A user ran into an issue while upgrading where
ContentType.objects.get(model="realmreactivationstatus",
app_label="zerver") fails due to the object being missing. The reason
for that is to be yet figured out, but the immediate solution is clear
in the sense that the migration can just quit early
if not Confirmation.objects.filter(type=REALM_REACTIVATION).exists() and
that'll effectively skip it for almost all servers (because realm
reactivations links are something that's really only useful on Zulip
Cloud).
Fixes#21266.
We want to tie the prereg_user to the MultiUseInvite directly rather
than to the MultiUserInvite's confirmation object, because the latter is
not possible. This is because the flow is that after going through the
multiuse invite link, the PreregistrationUser is created together with a
Confirmation object, creating a confirmation link (via
create_confirmation_link) to which then the user is redirected to finish
account creation. This means that the PreregistrationUser is already
tied to a Confirmation, so that attribute is occupied.
PostgreSQL's `default_statistics_target` is used to track how many
"most common values" ("MCVs") for a column when performing an
`ANALYZE`. For `tsvector` columns, the number of values is actually
10x this number, because each row contains multiple values for the
column[1]. The `default_statistics_target` defaults to 100[2], and
Zulip does not adjust this at the server level.
This translates to 1000 entries in the MCV for tsvectors. For
large tables like `zerver_messages`, a too-small value can cause
mis-planned query plans. The query planner assumes that any
entry *not* found in the MCV list is *half* as likely as the
least-likely value in it. If the table is large, and the MCV list is
too short (as 1000 values is for large deployments), arbitrary
no-in-the-MCV words will often be estimated by the query planner to
occur comparatively quite frequently in the index. Based on this, the
planner will instead choose to scan all messages accessible by the
user, filtering by word in tsvector, instead of using the tsvector
index and filtering by being accessible to the user. This results in
degraded performance for word searching.
However, PostgreSQL allows adjustment of this value on a per-column
basis. Add a migration to adjust the value up to 10k for
`search_tsvector` on `zerver_message`, which results in 100k entries
in that MCV list.
PostgreSQL's documentation says[3]:
> Raising the limit might allow more accurate planner estimates to be
> made, particularly for columns with irregular data distributions, at
> the price of consuming more space in `pg_statistic` and slightly
> more time to compute the estimates.
These costs seem adequate for the utility of having better search.
In the event that the pgroonga backend is in use, these larger index
statistics are simply wasted space and `VACUUM` computational time,
but the costs are likely still reasonable -- even 100k values are
dwarfed by the size of the database needed to generate 100k unique
entries in tsvectors.

This commit removes "role" field from subscription

This commit removes WILDCARD_MENTION_POLICY_STREAM_ADMINS
option of wildcard_mention_policy since we are not moving
forward with stream administrator concept and instead working
on new permssions model as per #19525.
We also add a migration to change wildcard_mention_policy of
existing realms to WILDCARD_MENTION_POLICY_ADMINS. This change
is fine since we were already treating both the setting values
as same as stream admin concept was not implemented completely.
This was removed in Django 4.0 except in historical migrations. We
might as well replace it everywhere.

The default of a Stream is to be public - having
history_public_to_subscribers default to False is inconsistent with
that. The defaults on the model should generally be consistent.
history_public_to_subscribers wasn't explicitly set when creating
streams via build_stream, thus relying on the model's default of False.
This lead to public streams being created with that value set to False,
which doesn't make sense.
We can solve this by inferring the correct value based on invite_only in
the build_stream funtion itself - rather than needing to add a flag
argument to it.
This commit also includes a migration to fix public stream with the
wrong history_public_to_subscribers value.
Fixes#21784.
Added a setting to the bottom of Settings > Display settings > Theme section
to display the reacting users on a message when numnber of reactions are
small.
This is a preparatory commit for #20980.
This is necessary for the migration 0386_fix_attachment_caches to run,
and likely makes more convenient any future parallel code interacting
with both Attachment and ArchivedAttachment.
This migration needs to be run after the previous commit is deployed
to a given Zulip installation, to fix any stale values of
is_realm_public and is_web_public.
Previously, Attachment.is_realm_public and its cousin,
Attachment.is_web_public, were properties that began as False and
transitioned to True only when a message containing a link to the
attachment was sent to the appropriate class of stream, or such a link
was added as part of editing a message.
This pattern meant that neither field was updated in situations where
the access permissions for a message changed:
* Moving the message to a different stream.
* Changing the permissions for a stream containing links to the message.
This correctness issue has limited security impact, because uploaded
files are secured both by a random URL and by these access checks.
To fix this, we reformulate these fields as a cache, with code paths
that change the permissions affecting an attachment responsible for
setting these values to the `None` (uncached) state. We prefer setting
this `None` state over computing the correct permissions, because the
correct post-edit permissions are a function of all messages
containing the attachment, and we don't want to be responsible for
fetching all of those messages in the edit code paths.
* Don't print the empty list for the vast majority of realms where
this is a noop.
* Make output a little more clear that this isn't revoking all
Confirmations, just those associated with deactivated users.
he possibility for it being null was likely an oversight -- it should
have been removed after the early migrations to backfill the field
when it was added.
We've confirmed there are no existing violations of this invariant in
Zulip Cloud.
This is a natural follow-up to
93e8740218 - invitations sent by users
deactivated before the commit still need to be revoked, via a
migration.
The logic for finding the Confirmations to deactivated is based on
get_valid_invite_confirmations_generated_by_user in actions.py.
This commit adds users to the appropriate system user group
based on their role. We also change the user groups when
changing role of the user.
We also add migration to add existing users to the appropriate
user groups.
This commit adds update_users_in_full_members_system_group which
is currently used to update the full members group on changing
role of a user. This function will be modified in next commit such
that it can be used to update full members group on changing
waiting_period_threshold setting of realm.
This is in a separate commit to make deployment easier. It ensures that
this is only marked non-null after the backfill migration (backfilling
.uuid for all old UserProfiles) runs - which was added in the previous
commit.
This model is by designed intended to exist on a 1:1 relationship with
Realms, and we attempt to ensure that with application code, but we
should have a unique constraint too, since a database with duplicate
such entries would be corrupted.
We do this via the standard Django OneToOneField.
A migration should not import zerver.lib.streams at all, but this
solves the immediate problem with check-database-compatibility.py.

better implemented using Django merge migrations.

The deferred_work events can't be processed in the test suite
environment, since it tries to make requests to the host <realm.uri>
which is "zulip.testserver" and obviously not going to work. Since the
test suite base data set has no animated emoji, there's nothing to do,
and we can skip this step.
This code only runs when applying the migration to an already
provisioned test db - because during an initial db set up there are no
realms yet, so no events get pushed by the migration.
Under the unicodedata distributed with Python 3.6, some Emoji are
classified as `Cn`, and not `So`:
```
$ unicode 1f929 --long
U+1F929 GRINNING FACE WITH STAR EYES
UTF-8: f0 9f a4 a9 UTF-16BE: d83edd29 Decimal: 🤩 Octal: \0374451
🤩
Category: So (Symbol, Other); East Asian width: W (wide)
Unicode block: 1F900..1F9FF; Supplemental Symbols and Pictographs
Bidi: ON (Other Neutrals)
$ python3.6 -c 'import unicodedata; print(unicodedata.category("\U0001f929"))'
Cn
$ python3.7 -c 'import unicodedata; print(unicodedata.category("\U0001f929"))'
So
```
Drop `Cn` from the list of excluded Unicode character classes, and
replace it with an explicit list of the 66 non-characters, which are
invariant.

do_delete_users had two bugs:
1. Creating the replacement dummy users
with active=True
2. Creating the replacement dummy users with email domain set to
realm.uri, which may not be a valid email domain.
Prior commits fixed the bugs, and this migration fixes the pre-existing
objects.
While races here are unlikely, it is most correct to enforce this
invariant at the database layer, and having a database-level
constraint makes the models file a bit more readable.
Following b3c58f454f, we want to clean up
old topics that may contain the disallowed characters. The Message table
is large, so we go in batches, making sure we limit topic fetches and
UPDATE query to no more than BATCH_SIZE Message rows per query.
