In feature levels 153 and 154, a new value of "partially_completed"
for `result` in a success (HTTP status code 200) was added for two
endpoints that process messages in batches: /api/delete-topic and
/api/mark-all-as-read.
Prior to these changes, `result` was either "success" or "error" for
all responses, which was a useful API invariant to have for clients.
So, here we remove "partially_completed" as a potential value for
"result" in a response. And instead, for the two endpoints noted
above, we return a boolean field "complete" to indicate if the
response successfully deleted/marked as read all the targeted
messages (complete: true) or if only some of the targeted messages
were processed (complete: false).
The "code" field for an error string that was also returned as part
of a partially completed response is removed in these changes as
well.
The web app does not currently use the /api/mark-all-as-read
endpoint, but it does use the /api/delete-topic endpoint, so these
changes update that to check the `complete` boolean instead of the
string value for `result`.
Because the third party might not be expecting a 400 from our
webhooks, we now instead use 200 status code for unknown events,
while sending back the error to Sentry. Because it is no longer an error
response, the response type should now be "success".
Fixes#24721.
Creates `MutableJsonResponse` as a subclass of Django's `HttpResponse`
that we can modify for ignored parameters in the response content.
Updates responses to include `ignored_parameters_unsupported` in
the response data through `has_request_variables`. Creates unit
test for this implementation in `test_decorators.py`.
The `method` parameter processed in `rest_dispatch` is not in the
`REQ` framework, so for any tests that pass that parameter, assert
for the ignored parameter with a comment.
Updates OpenAPI documentation for `ignored_parameters_unsupported`
being returned in the JSON success response for all endpoints.
Adds detailed documentation in the error handling article, and
links to that page in relevant locations throughout the API docs.
For the majority of endpoints, the documentation does not include
the array in any examples of return values, and instead links to
the error handling page. The exceptions are the three endpoints
that had previously supported this return value. The changes note
and example for these endpoints is also used in the error
handling page.
Adds request as a parameter to json_success as a refactor towards
making `ignored_parameters_unsupported` functionality available
for all API endpoints.
Also, removes any data parameters that are an empty dict or
a dict with the generic success response values.
django.utils.translation.ugettext is a deprecated alias of
django.utils.translation.gettext as of Django 3.0, and will be removed
in Django 4.0.

This simplifies the code, as it allows using the mechanism of converting
JsonableErrors into a response instead of having separate, but
ultimately similar, logic in RateLimitMiddleware.
We don't touch tests here because "rate limited" error responses are
already verified in test_external.py.
Use read-only types (List ↦ Sequence, Dict ↦ Mapping, Set ↦
AbstractSet) to guard against accidental mutation of the default
value.

Fixes#2665.
Regenerated by tabbott with `lint --fix` after a rebase and change in
parameters.
Note from tabbott: In a few cases, this converts technical debt in the
form of unsorted imports into different technical debt in the form of
our largest files having very long, ugly import sequences at the
start. I expect this change will increase pressure for us to split
those files, which isn't a bad thing.

Previous cleanups (mostly the removals of Python __future__ imports)
were done in a way that introduced leading newlines. Delete leading
newlines from all files, except static/assets/zulip-emoji/NOTICE,
which is a verbatim copy of the Apache 2.0 license.

In order to benefit from the modern conveniences of type-checking,
add concrete, non-Any types to the interface for JsonableError.
Relatedly, there's no need at this point to duck-type things at
the places where we receive a JsonableError and try to use it.
Simplify those by using straightforward standard typing.
response.content is binary data, but code usually assumes it to
be text. Fix this by decoding response.content where required.
Don't do this in tests yet.
If a user's session cookie expired, the next REST API request their
browser did would go into the json_unauthorized code path. This
returned a response with a WWW-Authenticate tag for HTTP Basic Auth
(since that's what the REST API uses), even for /json requests which
should only be authenticated using session auth.
We fix this by explicitly passing the desired WWW-Authenticate state.
Fixes: #800.
Also, fixed up the annotations for tornadoviews to better align with
how narrows was defined as `Iterable[Sequence[str]]` rather than
`List[Tuple[str, str]]`.
These ones don't fix any bugs, because the mutable arg is never passed
outside of the callable or mutated. But it's good practice to not use
them in case those invariants are changed in the future.
This needs to be deployed to both staging and prod at the same
off-peak time (and the schema migration run).
At the time it is deployed, we need to make a few changes directly in
the database:
(1) UPDATE django_content_type set app_label='zerver' where app_label='zephyr';
(2) UPDATE south_migrationhistory set app_name='zerver' where app_name='zephyr';
