Just shows a config error page if the bouncer is not enabled. Uses a new
endpoint for this so that it can work nicely for both browser and
desktop app clients.
It's necessary, because the desktop app expects to get a json response
with either an error or billing_access_url to redirect to. Showing a
nice config error page can't be done via the json error mechanism, so
instead we just serve a redirect to the new error page, which the app
will open in the browser in a new window or tab.
This is preparatory work towards adding a Topic model.
We plan to use the local variable name as 'topic' for
the Topic model objects.
Currently, we use *topic as the local variable name for
topic names.
We rename local variables of the form *topic to *topic_name
so that we don't need to think about type collisions in
individual code paths where we might want to talk about both
Topic objects and strings for the topic name.
This commit sets the client capability value to not pass
unknown users data in the webapp and also does some changes
to avoid errors while loading the web-app home page.
This commit only does some basic webapp changes to not show
inaccessible users in sidebar and we would need need more
changes to make the web-app work as expected which will be
done in further commits.
This makes it possible for a self-hosted realm administrator to
directly access a logged-page on the push notifications bouncer
service, enabling billing, support contacts, and other administrator
for enterprise customers to be managed without manual setup.
has_billing_access already has the is_realm_owner check:
@property
def has_billing_access(self) -> bool:
return self.is_realm_owner or self.is_billing_admin
This will be used in gear menu to inform admin of their
sponsorship application status.
This includes some additional tweaks for when to show
billing and plans to users.
We now upstream the conversion of legacy tuples
into the callers of do_events_register. For the
codepath that builds the home view, this allows
for cleaner code in the caller. For the /register
endpoint, we have to do the conversion, but that
isn't super ugly, as that's an appropriate place
to deal with legacy formats and clean them up.
We do have to have do_events_register downgrade
the format back to tuples to pass them into
request_event_queue, because I don't want to
change any serialization formats. The conversion
is quite simple, and it has test coverage.
This in-progress feature was started in 2018 and hasn't
been worked on much since. It's already in a broken state,
which makes it hard to iterate on the existing search bar
since it's hard to know how those changes will affect search
pills.
We do still want to add search pills eventually, and when
we work on that, we can refer to this diff to readd the
changes back.
This swaps out url_format_string from all of our APIs and replaces it
with url_template. Note that the documentation changes in the following
commits will be squashed with this commit.
We change the "url_format" key to "url_template" for the
realm_linkifiers events in event_schema, along with updating
LinkifierDict. "url_template" is the name chosen to normalize
mixed usages of "url_format_string" and "url_format" throughout
the backend.
The markdown processor is updated to stop handling the format string
interpolation and delegate the task template expansion to the uri_template
library instead.
This change affects many test cases. We mostly just replace "%(name)s"
with "{name}", "url_format_string" with "url_template" to make sure that
they still pass. There are some test cases dedicated for testing "%"
escaping, which aren't relevant anymore and are subject to removal.
But for now we keep most of them as-is, and make sure that "%" is always
escaped since we do not use it for variable substitution any more.
Since url_format_string is not populated anymore, a migration is created
to remove this field entirely, and make url_template non-nullable since
we will always populate it. Note that it is possible to have
url_template being null after migration 0422 and before 0424, but
in practice, url_template will not be None after backfilling and the
backend now is always setting url_template.
With the removal of url_format_string, RealmFilter model will now be cleaned
with URL template checks, and the old checks for escapes are removed.
We also modified RealmFilter.clean to skip the validation when the
url_template is invalid. This avoids raising mulitple ValidationError's
when calling full_clean on a linkifier. But we might eventually want to
have a more centric approach to data validation instead of having
the same validation in both the clean method and the validator.

Zulip already has integrations for server-side Sentry integration;
however, it has historically used the Zulip-specific `blueslip`
library for monitoring browser-side errors. However, the latter sends
errors to email, as well optionally to an internal `#errors` stream.
While this is sufficient for low volumes of users, and useful in that
it does not rely on outside services, at higher volumes it is very
difficult to do any analysis or filtering of the errors. Client-side
errors are exceptionally noisy, with many false positives due to
browser extensions or similar, so determining real real errors from a
stream of un-grouped emails or messages in a stream is quite
difficult.
Add a client-side Javascript sentry integration. To provide useful
backtraces, this requires extending the pre-deploy hooks to upload the
source-maps to Sentry. Additional keys are added to the non-public
API of `page_params` to control the DSN, realm identifier, and sample
rates.
Without an explicit type annotation, mypy infers the type of
values in `page_params` upon its initialization as a `Union`, while
other computed values haven't been assigned yet. We break this
over-conservative inferred type by annotating `page_params` as a
`Dict[str, object]`.
We could have created a `TypedDict` to have accurate type annotation
for all of the fields, but it does not seem worth it at this point since
the data structure is not widely used in the backend.

In very large communities, computing page_params can be quite
expensive. Because we've moved the homepage for communities with web
public streams enabled to be the Zulip app, and it's common for
automation to frequently poll the homepage of a Zulip organization,
we'd like to keep those homepages cheap (as the login pages are).
We address this by prototyping something we may end up wanting to do
anyway -- having the web application do a `POST /register` API call in
order to fetch most page_params, and merging those with the mostly
webapp configuration page_params that we leave in the / response for
convenience.
This exact implementation is messy in a few ways:
* We rely on the assumption that ui_init.initialize_everything happens
before all code that needs to inspect the page_params properties we
are fetching via /register. This is likely mostly true, but nothing
in the implementation enforces it.
* The bundle of ~25 keys that are in page_params ideally would be
considered individually, with some moved to the /register API
response and perhaps others eliminated or namespaced inside a
webapp_settings object.
* It's weird to have the spectators network sequence different that
from logged-in users, and potentially a maintainability risk.
* We might be able to arrange that the initial `/` response be
cacheable, now that we're no longer embedding our metadata inside
it. We've made no effort to do that as of yet.
Despite those issues, this commit solves an immediate problem and will
give us helpful experience with a model closer to the one we'll want
in order to happily support a web client that can be run locally
against a production Zulip server's data.

Previously, we were masking the realm_description raw Markdown with
rendered Markdown, which was a type error.
When we switch to calling /register explicitly in a few commits, this
results in a bug, since the raw Markdown ends up taking priority.
Fix this by just using a different name for this different concept.
It is confusing to have the plan type constants not be namespaced
by the thing they represent. We already have a namespacing
convention in place for constants, so we should use it for
Realm.plan_type as well.
This utilizes the generic `BaseNotes` we added for multipurpose
patching. With this migration as an example, we can further support
more types of notes to replace the monkey-patching approach we have used
throughout the codebase for type safety.
We added "user_settings" object containing all the user settings in
previous commit. This commit modifies the code to send the existing
setting fields in the top-level object only if user_settings_object
client_capabilities field is False.
This commit adds "user_settings_object" field to
client_capabilities which will be used to determine
if the client needs 'update_display_settings' and
'update_global_notifications' event.
Return zulip_merge_base alongside zulip_version
in `/register`, `/event` and `/server_settings`
endpoint so that the value can be used by other
clients.
This concludes the HttpRequest migration to eliminate arbitrary
attributes (except private ones that are belong to django) attached
to the request object during runtime and migrated them to a
separate data structure dedicated for the purpose of adding
information (so called notes) to a HttpRequest.
This commits removes the redundant `compute_show_invites` function
which computes the `show_invites` page parameter in `lib/users.py`.
It is so because, commit 13399833b0 removed
the `show_invites` context variable passed in index.html.
Hence, the `show_invites` page_param key is no
longer required to compute in backend as it can be switched with
`settings_data.user_can_invite_others_to_realm()` in the frontend.
This commits also removes the `test_compute*` tests in
`test_home` that concerned with the `show_invites` page parameter
as they are no longer required.
This commit migrates the `left_sidebar.html` Django template
to handlebars by creating a new file as `left_sidebar.hbs`
which is then rendered using `ui_init` module.
These are the minor changes introduced by virtue of template
migration -
- The `compute_show_invites_and_add_streams` function now
only concerns with the invite_to_realm_policy.
- Renamed the `compute_show_invites_and_add_streams` function
to `compute_show_invites` due to the above change.
- Fixes relevant `test_home.py` tests due to the above
changes.
Fixes part of #18792.
The language_list_dbl_col parameter in the page_params
is used by only the web client frontend. The value is
calculated in the backend and then passed as a page_param
which is unnecessary considering that the whole process
is beneficial for the front_end only. Hence move the entire
calculation code to the frontend.
Fixes part of #18673.
default_language_name was a part of page_params which is actually
redundant considering that we already have language_list and
default_language available to frontend which can be used to
get the default_language_name and hence prevents the backend
from sending an additional parameter.
Fixes part of #18673.
For this extraction, we need to move some context
parameter (from home_real in `views/home.py`) to extra
page_params parameter (of
build_page_params_for_home_page_load in
`lib/home.py`) so handlebars template can access them.
While moving I confirmed that these parameters are not
used elsewhere if some parameter is used elsewhere
(like `apps_page_url`) then I didn't remove it from the
context list, I just added it to the page_params list.

This is a prep commit to extract the gear menu as a
handlebars template.
We are renaming `enable_marketing_emails_enabled` to
`corporate_enabled` as it will be also used in the
handlebars template of the gear menu.
This results in moving the `zulip_merge_base` parameter to
page_params, so that it's available to JavaScript.
Since this is technically a tiny overlay, it needs to be initialized
before hashchange.js.
Rename poll_timeout to event_queue_longpoll_timeout_seconds
and change its value from 90000 ms to 90 sec. Expose its
value in register api response when realm data is fetched.
Bump API_FEATURE_LEVEL to 74.
Expose the boolean value server_needs_upgrade in the
responses for register api so that it can be used
by mobile and terminal clients as well.

Shift functions used for compatibility from
zerver.lib.home (is_outdated_server) and
zerver.view.compatibility (pop_numerals,
version_lt, find_mobile_os,
is_outdated_desktop_app, is_unsupported_browser)
to zerver.lib.compatibility module.
Since this is currently only useful to interpret presence data, we
send this only if presence is requested.
I'm not sure that server_timestamp is the right name for this field,
but ultimately it should match the main presence API format.
