This commit adds a method of marking an overlay as being meant to be
left open despite click events triggering that would normally close it.
This is to prevent the case where a user drags an image and "unclicks"
in an area where normally clicking would close the overlay.
This fixes the following bug:
* Open the streams modal.
* Click and hold in the word "Streams" at the top.
* Move pointer up out of the modal.
* Release.
* Expected: Some text is selected, but nothing else happens.
* Actual: The modal disappears.
We use the same fix we use for this class of issue in other places:
checking for whether a range is selected, and if so, doing nothing.
KaTeX makes use of a "span.overlay" element for the little vector
arrow symbol on top of a `\vec` object. This conflicts with Zulip's
CSS for our overlays, which are divs with the `overlay` CSS class.
While KaTeX may rename their class
(https://github.com/KaTeX/KaTeX/issues/1456), we can work around this
issue by scoping our own overlay CSS and click handlers to
"div.overlay" rather than ".overlay".
Fixes#18068.
We now unconditionally enable backgroung events when 'hidden.bs.modal'
event is triggered on closing of modal. We do not need to handle them
separateley for closing modal by close_modal, data-dismiss or escape.
We handle this by single handler for modals in settings and subscription
overlay.
Fixes#16688.
This mainly extracts a new module called
browser_history. It has much fewer dependencies
than hashchange.js, so any modules that just
need the smaller API from browser_history now
have fewer transitive dependencies.
Here are some details:
* Move is_overlay_hash to hash_util.
* Rename hashchange.update_browser_history to
brower_history.update
* Move go_to_location verbatim.
* Remove unused argument for exit_overlay.
* Introduce helper functions:
* old_hash()
* set_hash_before_overlay()
* save_old_hash()
We now have 100% line coverage on the extracted
code.
Recent Topics is no longer an overlay now, but note that it is
also not a typical messages narrow. It can reside between
an overlay and a Filter in the sense that it is dispalyed as
a typical Filter narrow but has properties of an Overlay.
Compose box is not visible in this view as it will be confusing
to many users and hence compose shortcuts have also been disabled.
Keyboard shortcuts that apply on messages have also been disabled.
The remaining shortcuts that apply to a narrow are still accessible
here.
After exiting lightbox view by pressing the browser back button,
future requests to open images were failing. This was because the
handler called on back button press- close_for_hash_change() was not
closing the currently open overlays gracefully. This commit fixes the
problem by calling the close_handler function inside
close_for_hash_change().

Instead of prohibiting ‘return undefined’ (#8669), we require that a
function must return an explicit value always or never. This prevents
you from forgetting to return a value in some cases. It will also be
important for TypeScript, which distinguishes between undefined and
void.

css-loader@4 broke @import statements referencing files with
extensions other than .css, unless those @import statements are
compiled away by another loader. Upstream is more interested in
arguing that such @import statements are semantically incorrect than
applying the one line fix.

This is a prep commit for changing the bots list page to show
normal user popover instead of extended profile one.
This is added so that any open popovers are closed, if one
tries to close the overlay.
This was not needed previously because we were using modal for
showing extended user profile. Now as we would be adding popover,
we would need this to close the open popovers before closing overlay.
ES and TypeScript modules are strict by default and don’t need this
directive. ESLint will remind us to add it to new CommonJS files and
remove it from ES and TypeScript modules.

Prettier would do this anyway, but it’s separated out for a more
reviewable diff. Generated by ESLint.

* Show an empty overlay of recent topics.
* Register click event to open recent topics.
* Launch recent topics on "t" keypress.
This is based on the draft overlay.
When reading the calling code, it's helpful to know
that we're really just passing in a selector. The
calls to open_modal/close_modal are nicer now to
reconcile with surrounding code, and you don't have
to guess whether the parameter is some kind of
"key" value--it really just refers directly to a DOM
element.
There is nothing user-visible about this change, but
the blueslip info messages now include the hash:
open modal: open #change_email_modal
This is a prep commit which extracts the part of the code in open_modal
and close_modal to separate methods which adds inline style of
pointer-events to enable/disable the background mouse events.
Block comments are added for easy understanding of reader.
This commit was originally automatically generated using `tools/lint
--only=eslint --fix`. It was then modified by tabbott to contain only
changes to a set of files that are unlikely to result in significant
merge conflicts with any open pull request, excluding about 20 files.
His plan is to merge the remaining changes with more precise care,
potentially involving merging parts of conflicting pull requests
before running the `eslint --fix` operation.

With webpack, variables declared in each file are already file-local
(Global variables need to be explicitly exported), so these IIFEs are
no longer needed.

A bug caused background links to open even when a modal in the user
settings overlay was active in the foreground. This commit fixes this
by disabling mouse events for the background when the modal is active,
and restoring them as soon as the modal starts closing.
Fixes#10654.
This commit prepares the frontend code to be consumed by webpack.
It is a hack: In theory, modules should be declaring and importing the
modules they depend on and the globals they expose directly.
However, that requires significant per-module work, which we don't
really want to block moving our toolchain to webpack on.
So we expose the modules by setting window.varName = varName; as
needed in the js files.
We now initialize most modules in ui_init.js, which
isn't the perfect place to do it, but at least now
we have a mostly consolidated entry point.
All the new foo.initialize() methods introduced in
this module run the same order relative to each
other as before this commit. (I did some console
logging with a hacked version of the program to
get the order right.) They happen a bit later than
before, though.
A couple modules still have the `$(function() {`
idiom for miscellaneous reasons:
archive - is a different bundle
common - used elsewhere
list_render - non-standard code style
scroll_bar - no exports
setup - probably special?
socket - $(function () is nested!
transmit - coupled to socket
translations - i18n is a bigger problem
ui_init - this bootstraps everything
This either removes aria-hidden=true assignments from buttons with
text, or adds a span to only hide the 'x' symbol rather than the
button for closing buttons.
