The spinner icon is not visible until the user clicks on topic_edit_save,
so the space alloted to spinner-icon looks empty for rest of the time.
To improve the design, the spinner icon is only shown when the user
clicks on topic_edit_save.
Rename zoom_xhrs to video_call_xhrs.
Rename abort_zoom to abort_video_callbacks.
Delete callbacks from video_call_xhrs when they have been aborted.
Move generation of video_call_id in the .videolink handler into
the Jitsi video call handling block as it is the only place it is
referenced.
We display a centered spinner and hide the Submit / Cancel
buttons in the Move Topic modal similar to what is done in
the Deleting messages modal.
This commit also makes a change where we now close the modal
after success/failure response of the second request instead
of the first.
This commit hides the "Save" and "Cancel" buttons
after the first click and shows a spinner until a
successful / failed response is received.
We do not allow sending any other message edit
requests during this time frame, similar to how
our inline topic edit ui works.

ES and TypeScript modules are strict by default and don’t need this

remove it from ES and TypeScript modules.

fadeTo is not a good method to hide elements since it sets
opacity to 0 in which the element still can consume space and
be clickable. We set it's display to None using fadeOut method.
Also, allow this method to be called via ui_report.error.
When we call functions inside our own modules that use
the `window.foo = exports` pattern, we have always had
a pretty strong preference to call `exports.internal_function`
instead of `foo.internal_functions`.
The stragglers here weren't violating this convention
for any intentional reason. Some of the places here
probably were part of code moves where somebody
(probably me) moved functions into the modules to avoid
unnecessary indirection, and I missed a spot where I
could change from `presence` to `exports` (or whatever).
And other places are probably just kinda arbitrary
decisions by the original developer, and we just haven't
bothered to clean it up until now.
This was previously hardcoded with agreement between the Zulip backend
and frontend as 86400 seconds (1 day). Now, it's still hardcoded in
the backend, but arranged in a way where we could add a setting
without any changes to the mobile and terminal apps to update logic.
Fixes#15278.
Option to disable breadcrumb messages were given in both message edit
form and topic edit stream popover.
User now has the option to select which stream to send the notification
of stream edit of a topic via checkboxes in the UI.
This reimplements our Zoom video call integration to use an OAuth
application. In addition to providing a cleaner setup experience,
especially on zulipchat.com where the server administrators can have
done the app registration already, it also fixes the limitation of the
previous integration that it could only have one call active at a time
when set up with typical Zoom API keys.

This commit adds code to live update the message edit history.
Message edit history is fetched and rendered again if the edit
history modal is open.
This also adds 'data-message-id' attribute to 'message-history'
when opening history modal element which is used for checking
whether the history modal opened is of the message which is
edited.

* Stream bar color logic is borrwoed from compose stream bar.
* Use flex containers to align elements and automatically set their
height to be same, them automatically filling the stream color bar
height to be the height of the select box.
* Use flex-wrap to wrap the propagate selector when out of space.
* To make sure stream select box and stream color box are closest possible,
select box has been moved under stream color box.
* This feature is currently only visible to admins.
* Locally echoed messages are also updated.
* Add UI for editing stream if user is admin.
* Show propagate mode selector if either stream or topic changed.
This completes the implementation of support for moving a topic to
another stream by adding a basic UI for it.
Fixes#6427, which was previously the most-upvoted issue request in
Zulip.
There are likely to be a bunch of follow-up UI improvements on top of
this change to fully flesh out the feature.
Message_edit.js had a bug where if the inline topic_edit failed, it
would not show an error because it attempted to make a look up for
the message_id as though it were a message row edit, which would not
work. That was changed in a refactor, which made it apparent that
there was no error being rendered at all. This commit corrects it by
rendering the error, it also adds some styling to ensure the error
message is displayed inline and it makes a change to the template so
the error is rendered before the spinner.
This commit cleans up the dirty if/else structure of
handle_edit_keydown by switching to switch case statements, and also
separates the handler for inline_topic_edits and that for message
row edits.
This commit makes it so that inline (recipient bar) topic edits follow
a different path from full message row edits in `message_edit.js`.
This commit:
- deletes `.save()` endpoint and replaces all calls to it with
`.save_message_row_edit()` and `.save_inline_topic_edit()`
- deletes `.end()` endpoint and replaces all calls to it with calls to
either ".end_message_row_edit()" and ".end_inline_topic_edit()".
The disabled property actually prevented text selection, so it seems
better to use CSS through the `readonly="readonly"` property.
For this, swapped .prop() with .attr() since .prop() was setting it as
`readonly=""`.
Earlier, the non-editable text-boxes(on clicking view source/edit
topic) were not so apparent due to absence of `disabled` attribute.
Adding the `disabled` attribute makes them consistent with the approach
for non-editable text-boxes and text-areas in organization settings
(for non-admins).
Fixes: #14375
Option is added to video_chat_provider settings for disabling
video calls.
Video call icon is hidden in two cases-
1. video_chat_provider is set to disabled.
2. video_chat_provider is set to Jitsi and settings.JITSI_SERVER_URL
is none.
Relevant tests are added and modified.
Fixes#14483
We now handle the esc key completely within the
keydown handler that we already have for message
editing. We allow escape to work no matter what
the focused element is within an edited message,
and we blur that element properly and end the
edit.
We remove all the strange, duplicated logic
from hotkey.js.
This should also fix a blueslip error where the
hotkey code was passing message_edit a jQuery
element with zero length.
Fixes the traceback reported in #14151, though we should still look at
the DOM cleanup discussed there.
We now treat util like a leaf module and
use "require" to import it everywhere it's used.
An earlier version of this commit moved
util into our "shared" library, but we
decided to wait on that. Once we're ready
to do that, we should only need to do a
simple search/replace on various
require/zrequire statements plus a small
tweak to one of the custom linter checks.
It turns out we don't really need util.js
for our most immediate code-sharing goal,
which is to reuse our markdown code on
mobile. There's a little bit of cleanup
still remaining to break the dependency,
but it's minor.
The util module still calls the global
blueslip module in one place, but that
code is about to be removed in the next
few commits.
I am pretty confident that once we start
sharing things like the typeahead code
more aggressively, we'll start having
dependencies on util. The module is barely
more than 300 lines long, so we'll probably
just move the whole thing into shared
rather than break it apart. Also, we
can continue to nibble away at the
cruftier parts of the module.
This commit was automatically generated by `tools/lint --only=eslint
--fix`, except for the `.eslintrc.json` change itself.

Updates the message editing process to do a local 'echo'.
On slow connections, now there is visual confirmation of the edit,
similar to when sending messages. The contains_backend_only_syntax
logic and check are the same as there.
We showing "(SAVING)" until the edit is completed, and on successful
edit, the word "(EDITED)" appears. There's likely useful future work
to do on making the animation experience nicer.
Substantially rewritten by tabbott to better handle corner cases and
communicate more clearly about what's happening.
Fixes: #3530.
ESLint won’t convert these automatically because it can’t rule out a
behavior difference arising from an access to a self-referential var
before it’s initialized:
> var x = (f => f())(() => x);
undefined
> let y = (f => f())(() => y);
Thrown:

The historical behavior of having `Enter` exit was optimized for the
"View source" use case; but `Esc` now handles that reasoanbly, and we
really should make it convenient to type in the user-editable text
box here.
Fixes part 1 of #11834.
This concerns the part where the message viewport is scrolled in
order to keep the message content and edit box textarea at the same
vertical position.
Earlier calculations involved use of `.message_top_line`. Similar
adjustments can be made using only the message_content (which also
makes the calculation simpler).
If MAX_FILE_UPLOAD_SIZE is set to 0, then UI elements like the upload
icon in the compose and message edit UI and "Attachments" menu in
"/#settings" are not displayed.
A different error message is also displayed if a user tries to drag and
drop or paste a file into the compose message box.
Fixes#12152.
We no longer have an empty message_content div for
messages like this:
/me gets some coffee
This requires a minor change in how we compute the
position of the message for editing.
The is_editable field includes topic edits, so we need a separate
field for whether to display these icons which are all for content
editing.
Fixes#11666.
This is primarily a feature for onboarding, where an organization
administrator might send a bunch of random test messages as part of
joining, but then want a pristine organization when their users later
join.
But it can theoretically be used for other use cases (e.g. for
moderation or removing threads that are problematic in some way).
Tweaked by tabbott to handle corner cases with
is_history_public_to_subscribers.
Fixes#10912.
User was able to click delete button multiple time which could cause
multiple delete requests. This commit disables and hides the delete
message button after the first click and shows a spinner until http
the delete request responds.
Also adds a casperjs test to ensure that spinner becomes visible and
delete button becomes invisible after clicking on delete button for
first time and hides spinner and show delete buttton when message is
deleted.
Fixes: #11219.
This couples the behavior of Enter to Save with Enter to Send.
Extracts and exports functions responsible for checking if enter
does send/edit and handling default behavior otherwise.

static/js/composebox_typeahead.js
Fixes#10320.
Previously, Topic editing was offered in the UI even to message
senders and organizations admins only if the message was no more than
one day old. This was correct for the "community topic editing" case,
but not for message senders and organization admins.
While we're at it, this also centralizes some previously haphazard
logic to always call message_edit.is_topic_editable().
Tweaked significantly by tabbott to fix the logic.
Closes#10568.
This commit prepares the frontend code to be consumed by webpack.
It is a hack: In theory, modules should be declaring and importing the
modules they depend on and the globals they expose directly.
However, that requires significant per-module work, which we don't
really want to block moving our toolchain to webpack on.
So we expose the modules by setting window.varName = varName; as
needed in the js files.
This is preparation for enabling an eslint indentation configuration.
90% of these changes are just fixes for indentation errors that have
snuck into the codebase over the years; the others are more
significant reformatting to make eslint happy (that are not otherwise
actually improvements).
The one area that we do not attempt to work on here is the
"switch/case" indentation.
Add realm setting to set time limit for message deleitng.
Set default value of message_content_delete_limit_seconds
to 600 seconds(10 min).
Thanks to Shubham Dhama for rebasing and reworking this. Some final
edits also done by Tim Abbott.
Fixes#7344.
Applies the logic to allow community members to edit topics
of others' messages if this setting is True. Otherwise,
only administrators can update the topic of others' messages.
This logic includes a 24-hour time limit for community topic editing.
Adds a check for newline that was present on backend, but missing in the
frontend markdown implementation. Updating messages uses is_me_message flag
received from server instead of its own partial test. Similarly, rendering
previews uses markdown code.
Fixes#6493.
We had been waiting on doing this for a long time to make sure the
feature actually did what it was supposed to (completed last week);
this change adds the typeahead to ensure it actually works.
While we're fixing this, we remove the split between the edit and
compose code paths for typeahead, which is good, because we'd already
accidentally added the syntax-highlighting feature in only one place.
Fixes#195.
This is an attempt to more easily debug a traceback we've seen a few
times. The issue likely has to do with local echo, which would be
confirmed if this reports a local-echo-style message ID.
This removes the `no-new` rule which is relatively detrimental to
code cleanliness in our codebase because third-party libraries may
utilize data structures that don't fly well with our linting rules.
This also fixes abstractions that were created due to the limitations
and impositions of this lint rule.
Our code to edit messages that were echoed locally but failed
by the server was broken. We just disable it for now.
We have opened #5841 to try to restore this functionality.
Our logic for editing failed messages is broken in various ways,
so we are removing the codepath for editing for now. We will
try to restore these features as part of #5841.
If you use the escape key to close a message edit, we need
to blur out the text fields. Otherwise, hotkeys.js thinks
we are still editing the text. This bug would disable the
use of things like arrow keys until the user subsequently
focused another field.
We probably eventually want hotkeys.js to be smarter about
ignoring hidden fields that still have the focus, but there's
also no reason not to blur the fields here, and this is a more
local, less risky fix.
Altered message_edit.start to check for message.raw_content before
retrieving the same from the backend.
With tweaks by tabbott to update, rather than delete, on repeated
edits.
Fixes: #4404.
This makes it possible for Zulip administrators to delete messages.
This is primarily intended for use in deleting early test messages,
but it can solve other problems as well.
Later we'll want to play with the permissions model for this, but for
now, the goal is just to integrate the feature.
Note that it saves the deleted messages for some time using the same
approach as Zulip's message retention policy feature.
Fixes#135.
This was a regression introduced in ba7b7a9. The ID of the
edit boxes were changed in that commit, but this event
listener was not updated to reflect that.
Fixes bugs of when multiple messages are being edited simultaneously.
Specifically, typeahead is no longer broken, copying messages to clipboard
is less buggy, and resizing is no longer
broken when multiple messages are being edited.
I changed the watch_manual_resize function to return the listener
functions it creates, and then these are used to remove the event
listeners before the edit box is hidden.
Reusing code from the main compose_message component so that resizing now
behaves correctly. This means that when the user tries to resize vertically,
the autoresize code is disabled, and the textbox reverts to manual resizing.
Fixes#4573
The "Copy" button will only be shown for "View Source"
or "Topic editing only". Also replaced "Copy to clipboard"
with "Copy and close" to make autoclose less surprising.
Fixes#4238.
We no longer let the left arrow put you into the message edit
UI for a message where you can only edit topics, since that is
just confusing to most users.
This change also improves error handling a bit, and it removes
an unnecessary call to rows.id().
Finally, it moves some logic out of message_list.js, so that we
don't have a circular dependency for this codepath.
