Sahil Batra c1c4c95ce7 settings: Require clients to pass dense_mode value when needed.
Previously, if someone changed the font-size or line height
settings to some value other than the legacy values, we set
dense_mode to False if it was True. This commit changes the
code to require clients to pass dense_mode as False in such
cases and raise an error otherwise.

Prakhar Pratyush df7ed437c2 compose: Show banner to explain interleaved view messages fading.
In an interleaved view when composing a message we fade messages
which the user is not replying to, to reduce the chance they send
a message to a recipient they didn't intend to.
Also, it reduces the visual/cognitive processing required
to figure out where their message is going to go.

But, it's not necessarily clear to users that what the
fading means, so this commit adds a one-time compose banner
to explain what's going on the first time this comes up.

Alex Vandiver f6b99171ce emoji: Derive the file extension from a limited set of content-types.
We thumbnail and serve emoji with the same format as they were
uploaded. However, we preserved the original extension, which might
mismatch with the provided content-type.

Limit the content-type to a subset which is both (a) an image format
we can thumbnail, and (b) a media format which is widely-enough
supported that we are willing to provide it to all browsers. This
prevents uploading a `.tiff` emoji, for instance.

Based on this limited content-type, we then reverse to find the
reasonable extension to use when storing it. This is particularly
important because the local file storage uses the file extension to
choose what content-type to re-serve the emoji as.

This does nothing for existing emoji, which may have odd or missing
file extensions.

Sahil Batra ffb7744974 settings: Allow settings to be set to system groups only in production.
We use the already existing server level setting to only allow
settings to be set to system groups, not a named user defined
group as well, in production. But we allow to settings to be set
to any named or anonymous user group in tests and development server.

"can_mention_group" setting can be set to user defined groups
because some of the realms already do that in production.

The existing server level setting is also renamed to make it clear
that both user defined groups and anonymous groups are not allowed
if that setting is set to False.

This commit also changes the error message to be consistent for the
case when a setting cannot be set to user defined groups as per
server level and setting and when a particular setting cannot be set
to user defined groups due to the configuration of that particular
setting. For this we add a new class SystemGroupRequiredError in
exceptions.py so that we need not re-write the error message in
multiple places.

Alex Vandiver e29a455b2d avatars: Encode version into the filename.
Hash the salt, user-id, and now avatar version into the filename.
This allows the URL contents to be immutable, and thus to be marked as
immutable and cacheable. Since avatars are served unauthenticated,
hashing with a server-side salt makes the current and past avatars not
enumerable.

This requires plumbing the current (or future) avatar version through
various parts of the upload process.

Since this already requires a full migration of current avatars, also
take the opportunity to fix the missing `.png` on S3 uploads (#12852).

We switch from SHA-1 to SHA-256, but truncate it such that avatar URL
data does not substantially increase in size.

Pedro Almeida ddfc2d230f resolve_topic: Prevent incorrect notification during message move.
This commit fixes the bug where the "topic unresolved" notification
is wrongly triggered when moving a message between a resolved and
unresolved topic, except for when the topics have the same name.

To resolve this issue, the commit ensures that resolved/unresolved
notifications are not sent if a message has been moved to a new
topic. This is achieved by comparing the names of the old and new
topics without considering the "resolved prefix".

The commit also accounts for the scenario where `new_topic_name`
has been truncated, indicating that it was resolved and the name
had to change to accommodate the "resolved prefix".

This solution does not try to specially handle the possible case that
a stream has two topics with the same name, even if one is resolved
and another unresolved.

Fixes #29007.

Pedro Almeida f4ca8025da move_stream: Trigger only move notification.
This commit updates the code so that only the moved notification is
triggered when moving a message between a resolved and unresolved
topic in different streams or when moving a topic itself.

This change takes place even when both stream change and resolve
or unresolve a topic takes place in the same API request, as we
now consider it only a move operation.

This fixes a case where a message is moved between topics that
have the same name, but one resolved and another unresolved and
in different streams. Previously a resolved or unresolved
notification would also be sent. Now, this will not happen,
ensuring only the move operation is notified.

Prakhar Pratyush 485a8a1421 add_new_user_history: Add missing historical flags.
This commit adds the missing historical flag to recent
messages added in a new user's feed.

Reason:
* User didn't receive when they were sent, so semantically
the 'historical' flag should be present.
* It helps to avoid the "You (un)subscribed to.." bookend
while reading older messages.
The bookend appears whenever the historical flag flips
between adjacent messages. Earlier, the bookend was visible
between 'recent messages' and 'older messages'. This makes
sure that the bookend is visible only at the moment new
message is sent by the user after account creation.

Lauryn Menard 673a01ea0c realm-deactivation: Send email to owners as part of deactivation.
Creates a new "realm_deactivated" email that can be sent to realm
owners as part of `do_deactivate_realm`, via a boolean flag,
`email_owners`.

This flag is set to `False` when `do_deactivate_realm` is used for
realm exports or changing a realm's subdomain, so that the active
organization owners are not emailed in those cases.

This flag is optional for the `deactivate_realm` management command,
but as there is no active user passed in that case, then the email
is sent without referencing who deactivated the realm.

It is passed as `True` for the support analytics view, but the email
that is generated does not include information about the support
admin user who completed the request for organization deactivation.

When an active organization owner deactivates the organization, then
the flag is `True` and an email is sent to them as well as any other
active organization owners, with a slight variation in the email text
for those two cases.

Adds specific tests for when `email_owners` is passed as `True`. All
existing tests for other functionality of `do_deactivate_user` pass
the flag as `False`.

Adds `localize` from django.util.formats as a jinja env filter so
that the dates in these emails are internationlized for the owner's
default language setting in the "realm_deactivated" email templates.

This is done in as much of a drop-in fashion as possible. Note that
libvips does not support animated PNGs[^1], and as such this
conversion removes support for them as emoji; however, libvips
includes support for webp images, which future commits will take
advantage of.

This removes the MAX_EMOJI_GIF_SIZE limit, since that existed to work
around bugs in Pillow. MAX_EMOJI_GIF_FILE_SIZE_BYTES is fixed to
actually be 128KiB (not 128MiB, as it actually was), and is counted
_after_ resizing, since the point is to limit the amount of data
transfer to clients.

Sahil Batra b44d30add7 events: Optimize computing can_create_streams and related fields.
Currently, for computing fields like can_create_public_streams
and can_create_private_steams fields, is_user_in_group is called
to check whether the user is part of the group which has the
permission. This means that there will be one DB query for each
field.

To optimize this, we now first fetch all the groups that the
user is member of, including the anonymous groups which are
used for settings, such that we can then just check whether
the user is part of the group which has the permission meaning
we would need only one query to compute all the fields.

This would be helpful when settings for other similar fields
will also be migrated to groups framework.

Mateusz Mandera 9f24b30e78 test_push_notifs: Adjust .filter() in test_analytics_api.
The test asserts entries about the zephyr realm anyway. The reason the
filter hasn't been limiting the query to zephyr is that we might
simultaneously want to ensure no other realms received changes - but
that doesn't seem quite right, given that the test doesn't dilligently
set up the initial conditions for all realms to have control over what
exactly happens with them. That makes this logic pretty fragile since if
some new (potentially unrelated) changes to Realm/RemoteRealm initial
state make it so some updates to other realms occur during the early
analytics upload calls in the test, the remote_audit_logs asserts here
will break in a very annoying to debug way.

If we want this query to be general, without limiting to the zephyr
realm, we could alter the test a bit to set up initial conditions
precisely.

Mateusz Mandera 7ff1227984 presence: Improve INSERT conflict handling in do_update_user_presence.
This was discussed in the review of #29999:
https://github.com/zulip/zulip/pull/29999#discussion_r1620818568

The previous way of handling wasn't entirely correct, as unnecessary
events were omitted, with a bad guarantee of even being in the correct
order.

This is an improvement as now the function detects that it ended up
doing nothing and can skip sending an event.

The race condition is hard to make up in an automated test, but we can
hackily simulate it by injecting a side_effect which will create a
conflicting UserPresence row when the function requests a cursor. Aside
of that, the actual race was simulated in manual testing to verify the
expected behavior.

Sahil Batra ff8f797c5c test_event_system: Fix test_queries test.
Before this commit, 3 DB queries were actually needed for "realm"
event type but the test mentioned 1 because, the related stream
setting fields were already fetched when testing the case for all
event types above it.

So, when testing the query count for only "realm" event type the
cached realm object was used and no extra queries were made for
the stream settings.

This commit updates the test to refetch the realm before testing
each event type separately, so that we test the actual query count.

Sahil Batra e23af20079 realm: Prefetch group settings only for "/register" response.
This commit updates code to prefetch realm group settings like
"can_create_public_channel_group" only when computing settings
for "/register" response by refetching the realm object with
select_related instead of fetching those settings in UserProfile
query.

This change is done because we do not need to prefetch these
settings for every UserProfile object and for most of the cases
where these settings are actually accessed, we can afford extra
query like when checking permission to create streams. But we
cannot afford one query extra for each setting when computing
these settings for "/register" response, so we re-fetch the
realm object with select_related leading to only one extra
query.

The query count changes in tests are -
- Query count increases by 1 when calling fetch_initial_state_data
for computing can_create_public_streams because Realm object from
UserProfile does not have prefetched setting fields.

- Query count increases by one in test_subs where streams are
created which is as expected due to the setting not being prefetched.

- Query count increases by 2 in tests in test_home.py where one
query is to refetch the realm object and one for computing
can_create_public_streams as mentioned above.

Sahil Batra d1bcac0822 realm: Use enums for accessing setting values.
This commit updates code, majorly in tests, to use
setting values from enums instead of directly using
the constants defined in Realm.

We still have those constants defined Realm as they
are used in a couple of places where the same code
is used for different settings. These will be
handled later.

Sahil Batra eec80a4a5a message: Fix code to check group mention permission.
This commits fixes the code which checks group mention permission
to handle anonymous user groups correctly. Basically we were
not checking whether the UserGroup is linked to a NamedUserGroup
and directly accessing named_user_group which results in an
error.

We also update the error messages to include the group name
which has permission to mention the groups since now there
might be a comnbination of groups and users who has permission
to mention the group.

This commit also adds tests to check sending and editing messages
when can_mention_group is set to a anonymous user group.

Sahil Batra 1811dd9b47 test_realm: Remove set_up_db.
This commit removes set_up_db, which called realm.save to
update the settings, and its calls are replaced with either
self.assertEqual (which is enough to verify the initial value)
or a "do_.." function call to set the setting to initial value.

It is better to avoid calling "realm.save" and instead use the
"do_.." functions to set the settings.

There are places where it is easy to just call "do_.." function
as default value is not the first value in the list of test values.

Sahil Batra 6e3c0690aa test_realm: Improve do_test_realm_update_api.
This commit improves how we handle video_chat_provider
and jitsi_server_url settings in do_test_realm_update_api.

For video_chat_provider, there is no use for calling
update_with_api_multiple_value and it can be handled
similar to other tests, so did that change and also
added one more value to test, so that it actually
tests changing the setting.

We need to handle jitsi_server_url separately as even
though value is a string, we need to serialize to
JSON. We do not use a separate function for it as
this is the only setting to handle differently and
update_with_api_multiple_value anyways was added in
bbff797a93 to update multiple settings in a request
which we are not doing here.

As a result of above changes, update_with_api_multiple_value
function is also removed.

Mateusz Mandera 9406bfbc0a analytics: Store realm disk space used as a CountStat.
Fixes #29632.

The issue description explains this well:

We currently recalculate `currently_used_upload_space_bytes` every file
upload, by dint of calling `flush_used_upload_space_cache` on
save/delete, and then immediately calling
`user_profile.realm.currently_used_upload_space_bytes()` in
`notify_attachment_update`. Since this walks the Attachments table,
recalculating this can take seconds in large realms.

Switch this to using a CountStat, so we don't need to walk significant
chunks of the Attachment table when we upload an attachment. This will
also give us a historical daily graph of usage.

The previous implementation using Django's `get_or_create` for

potentially leading to race conditions.

Use an `ON CONFLICT ... DO UPDATE` (aka "upsert") query, which
eliminates race conditions and improves performance. This is mildly
complicated due to the different unique indexes across the various
tables, and the need for bug-for-bug compatibility with the previous
implementation.

Alex Vandiver 9dfaa83aa8 invites: Remove invites worker, make confirmation object in-process.
The "invites" worker exists to do two things -- make a Confirmation
object, and send the outgoing email. Making the Confirmation object
in a background process from where the PreregistrationUser is created
temporarily leaves the PreregistrationUser in invalid state, and
results in 500's, and the user not immediately seeing the sent
invitation. That the "invites" worker also wants to create the
Confirmation object means that "resending" an invite invalidates the
URL in the previous email, which can be confusing to the user.

Moving the Confirmation creation to the same transaction solves both
of these issues, and leaves the "invites" worker with nothing to do
but send the email; as such, we remove it entirely, and use the
existing "email_senders" worker to send the invites. The volume of
invites is small enough that this will not affect other uses of that
worker.

tnmkr 5128d8f9af streams: Add creator field.
Adds nullable creator field, containing a reference to the user who
created the stream. When creating a stream, acting user is set as
the creator of the stream. Since API calls to create streams always
have an acting user, this field should always be set when streams
are created using the API.

Because streams can be created with no acting user, this field is
nullable. We try to backfill existing streams using RealmAuditLog table,
but not all streams are guaranteed to have a recorded create log. Thus
this new field is left null when it cannot be backfilled. We also set
this field to null when the creator user is deleted.

Fixes #28403

Uses redis to remember the last time push notifications were experienced
working. This needs to work across processes, so can't be done just in
memory.
As this is transient data that's fairly harmless to lose and thus
doesn't require the persistence benefits of the database, and we're
keeping a single "row", so don't need an entire new db table, we settle
on using redis instead of postgres. This is also consistent with how we
store other kinds of such transient data.

also makes it consistent with the entries created for
other operations like stream creation.

Mateusz Mandera 066de96a86 uploads: Implement 5GB/user quota for paid orgs on Zulip Cloud.
Fixes #28621

Till now, this was actually a flat 50GB despite what the /plans/ page
says and was adjusted flexibly when somebody asked for a higher limit.

This actually implements the advertised formula, but changing it to
5GB/user since that's a more reasonable limit.

Keeps the 50GB limit for sponsored Standard Free organizations and also
places it as the floor for the quota for paid orgs, to not lower this
for tiny orgs with less than 5 users.

Mateusz Mandera 8038e2322c realm: Change implementation approach for upload_quota_gb.
Most importantly, fixes a bug where a realm with a custom
.upload_quota_gb value (set by changing it in the database via e.g.
manage.py shell) would end up having it lowered while upgrading their
plan via the do_change_realm_plan_type function, which used to just set
it to the value implied by the new plan without caring about whether
that isn't lower than the original limit.

The new approach is cleaner since we don't do db queries by
upload_quota_gb so it's nicer to just generate these dynamically, making
changes to our limit-per-plan rules much easier - skipping the need for
migrations.

Mateusz Mandera c9ca4e68e5 scim: Add config option to disable initial streams for guests.
When an organization (without open ability for anyone to join) invites a
guest user, the invitation prompts allows them to choose whether the
guest should be added to default streams or not. This is useful, because
since we don't have per-role default streams configs, they may want
default streams to be for full Members.

SCIM provisioning doesn't have this control, since a newly provisioned
user gets created via a direct do_create_user call, thus adding them to
the organization's default streams, with no workaround possible aside of
just getting rid of default streams in the organization.

To make provisioning guests in such an organization usable, we add a
simple config option to create them with no streams. It's configured by
adding
```
"create_guests_without_streams": True
```

to the config dict in settings.SCIM_CONFIG.

Rather than use a bulk insert via Django, use the faster
`bulk_insert_all_ums` that we already have. This also adds a `ON

There are currently two callsites, with different desired `ON
CONFLICT` behaviours:
 - For `notify_reaction_update`, if the `UserMessage` had already been
created, we would have done nothing to change it.
 - For `do_update_message_flags`, we would have ensured a specific bit

notifications: Shorten string for redacted content.
Replace the long string for organisations that have notification
body/content disabled (settings.PUSH_NOTIFICATION_REDACT_CONTENT
set to true) with "New message".

This allows more of the limited space on the mobile device screen to
be used for additional messages rather than this verbose content.

Alex Vandiver fd5a091b30 messages: Only check the UserMessage row if necessary.
For the common case of not needing to reference the UserMessage row
later, and for being a stream without private history, the UserMessage
row is irrelevant. Convert `has_user_message` to a thunk, and defer
loading it unless necessary.
