This is primarily a feature for onboarding, where an organization
administrator might send a bunch of random test messages as part of
joining, but then want a pristine organization when their users later
join.
But it can theoretically be used for other use cases (e.g. for
moderation or removing threads that are problematic in some way).
Tweaked by tabbott to handle corner cases with
is_history_public_to_subscribers.
Fixes#10912.
This endpoint serves requests which might originate from an image
preview link which had an http url and the message holding the image
link was rendered before we introduced thumbnailing. In that case
we would have used a camo proxy to proxy http content over https and
avoid mix content warnings.
In near future, we plan to drop use of camo and just rely on thumbor
to serve such images. This endpoint helps maintain backward
compatibility for links which were already rendered.
This adds a new realm_logo field, which is a horizontal-format logo to
be displayed in the top-left corner of the webapp, and any other
places where we might want a wide-format branding of the organization.
Tweaked significantly by tabbott to rebase, fix styling, etc.
Fixing the styling of this feature's loading indicator caused me to
notice the loading indicator for the realm_icon feature was also ugly,
so I fixed that too.
Fixes#7995.
This should make it possible for blueslip error reports to be sent on
our logged-out portico pages, which should in turn make it possible to
debug any such issues as they occur.
This adds a web flow and management command for reactivating a Zulip
organization, with confirmation from one of the organization
administrators.
Further work is needed to make the emails nicer (ideally, we'd send
one email with all the admins on the `To` line, but the `send_email`
library doesn't support that).
Fixes#10783.
With significant tweaks to the email text by tabbott.
Before, presence information for an entire realm could only be queried via
the `POST /api/v1/users/me/presence` endpoint. However, this endpoint also
updates the presence information for the user making the request. Therefore,
bot users are not allowed to access this endpoint because they don't have
any presence data.
This commit adds a new endpoint `GET /api/v1/realm/presence` that just
returns the presence information for the realm of the caller.
Fixes#10651.
Also use name for selecting form in casper tests
as form with action=new is present in both /new
and /accounts/new/send_confirm/ which breaks
test in CircleCI as
waitWhileVisible('form[action^="/new/"]) never stops
waiting.
As part of our effort to change the data model away from each user
having a single API key, we're eliminating the couple requests that
were made from Django to Tornado (as part of a /register or home
request) where we used the user's API key grabbed from the database
for authentication.
Instead, we use the (already existing) internal_notify_view
authentication mechanism, which uses the SHARED_SECRET setting for
security, for these requests, and just fetch the user object using
get_user_profile_by_id directly.
Tweaked by Yago to include the new /api/v1/events/internal endpoint in
the exempt_patterns list in test_helpers, since it's an endpoint we call
through Tornado. Also added a couple missing return type annotations.
Various pieces of our thumbor-based thumbnailing system were already
merged; this adds the remaining pieces required for it to work:
* a THUMBOR_URL Django setting that controls whether thumbor is
enabled on the Zulip server (and if so, where thumbor is hosted).
* Replaces the overly complicated prototype cryptography logic
* Adds a /thumbnail endpoint (supported both on web and mobile) for
accessing thumbnails in messages, designed to support hosting both
external URLs as well as uploaded files (and applying Zulip's
security model for access to thumbnails of uploaded files).
* Modifies bugdown to, when THUMBOR_URL is set, render images with the
`src` attribute pointing /thumbnail (to provide a small thumbnail
for the image), along with adding a "data-original" attribute that
can be used to access the "original/full" size version of the image.
There are a few things that don't work quite yet:
* The S3 backend support is incomplete and doesn't work yet.
* The error pages for unauthorized access are ugly.
* We might want to rename data-original and /thumbnail?size=original
to use some other name, like "full", that better reflects the fact
that we're potentially not serving the original image URL.
In this commit we add a new endpoint so as to have a way of fetching
topic history for a given stream id without having to be logged in.
This can only happen if the said stream is web public otherwise we
just return an empty topics list. This endpoint is quite analogous
to get_topics_backend which is used by our main web app.
In this commit we also do a bit of duplication regarding the query
responsible for fetching all the topics from DB. Basically this
query is exactly the same as what we have in the
get_topic_history_for_stream function in actions.py. Basically
duplicating now is the right thing to do because this query is
really gonna change when we add another criteria for filtering
messages which is:
Only topics for messages which were sent during the period the
corresponding stream was web public should be returned.
Now when we will do this, the query will change and thus it won't
really be a code duplication!
This adds a /ping command that will be useful for users
to see what the round trip to the Zulip server is (including
only a tiny bit of actual server time to basically give a
200).
It also introduce the "/zcommand" endpoint and zcommand.js
module.
This is a mobile-specific endpoint used for logging into a dev server.
On mobile without this realm_uri it's impossible to send a login request
to the corresponding realm on the dev server and proceed further; we can
only guess, which doesn't work for using multiple realms.
Also rename the endpoint to reflect the additional data.
Testing Plan:
Sent a request to the endpoint, and inspected the result.
[greg: renamed function to match, squashed renames with data change,
and adjusted commit message.]
Previously, we used to raise an exception if the direct dev login code
path was attempted when:
* we were running under production environment.
* dev. login was not enabled.
Now we redirect to an error page and give an explanatory message to the
user.
Fixes#8249.
This uses an actual query to the backend to check if the subdomain is
available, using the same logic we would use to check when the
subdomain is in fact created.
This adds button under "Organization profile" settings, which
deactivates the organization and sends an "event" to all the
active user and log out them.
Fixes: #8212.
This endpoint will allow us to add/delete emoji reactions whose emoji
got renamed during various emoji infra changes. This was also a
required change for realm emoji migration.
This commit was tweaked significantly by tabbott for greater clarity
(with no changes to the actual logic).
This commit allows for the /api-new/ page to rendered similarly to our
/help pages. It's based on the old content for /api, but we're not
replacing the old content yet, to give a bit of time to restructure
things reasonably.
Tweaked by eeshangarg and tabbott.
The HelpView class will render a directory as markdown with an index HTML
page. This however can also be used for other generics and applied to
the API pages as well, so change the class to a generic class and
specify the path templates and names.
Tweaked by tabbott and Eeshan Garg.
The cookie mechanism only works when passing the login token to a
subdomain. URLs work across domains, which is why they're the
standard transport for SSO on the web. Switch to URLs.
Tweaked by tabbott to add a test for an expired token.
Most of these have more to do with authentication in general than with
registering a new account. `create_preregistration_user` could go
either way; we move it to `auth` so we can make the imports go only in
one direction.
Lets administrators view a list of open(unconfirmed) invitations and
resend or revoke a chosen invitation.
There are a few changes that we can expect for the future:
* It is currently possible to invite an email that you have already
invited, it might make sense to change this behavior.
* Resend currently sends an invite reminder instead of resending the
original invite, this is because 'custom_body' was not stored when
the first invite was sent.
Tweaked in various minor ways, primarily in the backend, by tabbott,
mostly for style consistency with the rest of the codebase.
Fixes: #1180.
This works around a bug in Django in handling the error case of a
client sending an inappropriate HTTP `Host:` header. Various
internal Django machinery expects to be able to casually call
`request.get_host()`, which will attempt to parse that header, so an
exception will be raised. The exception-handling machinery attempts
to catch that exception and just turn it into a 400 response... but
in a certain case, that machinery itself ends up trying to call
`request.get_host()`, and we end up with an uncaught exception that
causes a 500 response, a chain of tracebacks in the logs, and an email
to the server admins. See example below.
That `request.get_host` call comes in the midst of some CSRF-related
middleware, which doesn't even serve any function unless you have a
form in your 400 response page that you want CSRF protection for.
We use the default 400 response page, which is a 26-byte static
HTML error message. So, just send that with no further ado.
Example exception from server logs (lightly edited):
2017-10-08 09:51:50.835 ERR [django.security.DisallowedHost] Invalid HTTP_HOST header: 'example.com'. You may need to add 'example.com' to ALLOWED_HOSTS.

This adds the authors to the Zulip repository on GitHub from
/authors/ along with re-styling the page to fit the same
aesthetic as /for/open-source/ and other product-pages.
The new endpoints are:
/json/mark_stream_as_read: takes stream name
/json/mark_topic_as_read: takes stream name, topic name
The /json/flags endpoint no longer allows streams or topics
to be passed in as parameters.
This change simplifies how we mark all messages as read. It also
speeds up the backend by taking advantage of our partial index
for unread messages. We also use a new statsd indicator.
This completes the major endpoint migrations to eliminate legacy API
endpoints from Zulip.
There's a few other things that will happen naturally, so I believe
this fixes#611.
Prior to this commit, 7 megabytes of images (through 253 individual requests)
were heavily slowing down the initial load. With this commit, we load only the
logos (60 or so images).
Documentation and images for the individual integration sub-pages is requested
separately using the /integrations/doc/ endpoint, which returns HTML.
This isn't very slick, but it should get the main points down,
and it's past time we got something like this up. Definitely
needs in the future another pass at the text, and also some images
(screenshots, etc.) and styling.
This page describes software the user will get from upstream for
their own devices, independent of what's on the server they're
using. So it should live in a place maintained together with
that other software, rather than be distributed and versioned
with the server.
The use of ZILENCER_ENABLED to tell the difference is rather a hack
but is currently how we do this in the small handful of similar
spots; see #5245.
Fixes#5234.
This makes it possible for Zulip administrators to delete messages.
This is primarily intended for use in deleting early test messages,
but it can solve other problems as well.
Later we'll want to play with the permissions model for this, but for
now, the goal is just to integrate the feature.
Note that it saves the deleted messages for some time using the same
approach as Zulip's message retention policy feature.
Fixes#135.
This is one of the last major endpoints that were still done in the
pre-REST style.
While we're at it, we change the endpoint to expect a stream ID, not a
stream name.
Specifically, this makes easily available to the desktop and mobile
apps data on the server's configuration, including important details
like the realm icon, name, and description.
It deprecates /api/v1/get_auth_backends.
This fixes a performance problem where we were previously starting up
a full Django process (~0.7s even on a fast machine) every time a new
email came in, potentially allowing users to accidentally DoS a Zulip
server. Now, we just post over HTTPS, allowing the existing thread
pool support to do its job.
- Add script wrapper to communicate postfix pipe with django web server
over HTTP(S). It uses shared_secret authentication mode.
- Add django view to process messages from email mirror server.
- Clean management command `email-mirror`. Left just functional
for cron email processing.
- Add routes for new tornado view.
- Change pipe script in master process postfix config template
based on updated script.
- Add tests.
Tweaked by tabbott to adjust the directory and set better defaults.
Fixes#2421.
This commit adds the backend support for a new style of tutorial which
allows for highlighting of multiple areas of the page with hotspots that
disappear when clicked by the user.
This adds to Zulip support for a user changing their own email
address.
It's backed by a huge amount of work by Steve Howell on making email
changes actually work from a UI perspective.
Fixes#734.
Based on work by Kartik Maji in #1204.
This has a few significant changes from the original version:
* We correctly handle filling in data for topic edits
* Has a complete test suite verifying correctness of the logic
* Currently, it doesn't include a special "start" entry
Things we may want to further change include:
* Adding a special "start" entry.
* Reversing the order of the history data returned for clarity.
Our URL routing previously attempting to segment the /users/ endpoint
namespace into /me (affecting yourself) or /username@domain (affecting
other users) by regular expressions incorrectly, specifically in the
case of email addresses starting with `me`. This prevented various
admin actions like removing a user as an organization administrator.
