When a long message is restored from a draft (or scheduled messages),
its end, and the cursor placed there, used to be out of view, giving the
impression that the message was not focused, when it actually was.
This is fixed by always scrolling the cursor into view.
To achive this the `stream_header_colorblock` div was removed from
`dropdown_widget_with_stream_colorblock.hbs` template. this change made
the file name irelevenet so it was necessary to rename the file to
`dropdown_widget_wrapper.hbs`. After removing the html strcuture for
colorblock from templates the css for colorblock was also removed.
followed by the javascript which was used to add colorblock to the
stream picker. After removing javascript tests were updated.

Now we show the number of drafts that are addressed to the current
recipient selected in the compose box, if any, in the Drafts button
within parentheses (whether it is next to the Send button, or in the
Send options popover), and explain that it is the number of drafts for
this conversation in the tooltip.

Whenever the user has text selected within a single message, and uses
the hotkey to quote and reply, this selection will be quoted. In case of
no selection or selection not within a single message, the entirety of
the currently focused message will be quoted like before.
Similarly, when the user selects text within a single message, opens
that message's actions menu, and clicks the "Quote and reply" option,
the selected text will be quoted. In case of no selection or selection
containing any other message/s, the entirety of the message whose menu
was opened will be quoted like before.
When partially quoting a message, it is the markdown version of the
selection that is quoted, hence preserving any formatting. Any other
elements of the message, outside of the content, selected presumably by
accident (like the timestamp or sender name), are ignored.

For spectators, the chunk of page_params that originates from
do_events_register isn’t assigned until ui_init.js. That means the
TypeScript type of page_params is mostly a lie during module load
time: reading a parameter too early silently results in undefined
rather than the declared type, with unpredictable results later on.
We want to make such an early read into an immediate runtime error,
for both users and spectators consistently, and pave the way for
runtime validation of the page_params type. As a second step, split
out the subset of fields that pertain to the entire realm.

For compose state variables `last_focused_compose_type_input` and
`message_type` that are assigned non-boolean values on user interaction,
`undefined` is the semantically better choice than `false` for
initialisation, to avoid incorrect boolean implications.
Some files already were using `noop` in place of `() => {}`.
It's both clearer what it means and is easier to type.
This updates all test files to fully use `noop`, and
adds a shared import from the test lib file.
When a user is replying to a message while in a search view, we now warn
them that the full conversation is not visible and urge them to go to
the conversation they are composing to, so they can see the complete
conversation. On narrowing to that conversation, the banner is removed.
Fixes: #25893.
Until now, when a user quoted and replied to a message, even while
editing another, the quote would be inserted into the compose box. There
was no way to quote into the edit box.
Detecting the edit box to add content too was tricky, since on opening
the message actions popover, that message would be selected, while the
edit box would lose focus.
Now we don't shift focus on opening the message actions popover, keep
track of the last focused textarea and add the quote content to it if
if it's still in the DOM (if the user has not cancelled the editing).
Fixes: #20380.
Up until now, the currently selected message was the one that was always
quoted. Now if there's a message_id passed in, we'll quote that message
instead, otherwise we'll fall back on the selected message.
This is a prep commit for allowing quoting and replying while editing a
message sent earlier.
Up until now, the currently selected message was the one that was always
responded to. Now if there's a message_id passed in, we'll use that
message instead, otherwise we'll fall back to the selected message.
This is a prep commit for allowing quoting and replying while editing

This commit also limits `stream_bar.decorate` to only
be able to be called for stream messages, since it's
an undefined string_id is no longer a sign that
you're dealing with a DM.
Since is_visible was refactored to use a variable, these mocks
are not required.
Also, since is_visible return `false` by default, mocking it
to return false is not required.
After the changes in #25572, users were no longer able to start a direct
message with bots if the organization disabled direct messages. However,
we should allow direct messages to bots regardless of the policy because
it's a useful interface for users to interact with various classes of
bots.
user_ids_string_to_ids_array was also modified to prevent cases where
the split function returned an array of [0] rather than [] when dealing
with a empty id string of "".
Fixes: #21896.
This should cause no functional changes.
This is part of a multi-step effort to move away
from using stream names to reference streams, now
that it's impossible for a user to write a message
with an invalid stream name (since switching to
the dropdown).
This commit cuts the dependency on `compose.js` module for
`compose_actions.js` module by introducing a hook system for
registering different hooks from external modules.
Prior this commit, changing the message type from a stream (where posting
was not allowed) to a direct message using the compose box dropdown, did not
changed the state of the send button from disabled to enabled even though
direct messages were allowed in the organization.
This was happening because `check_stream_posting_policy_for_compose_box` was
only for streams.
Now, function is updated to check for both streams and direct
messages, as it checks if direct messages are allowed or not, and depending on
that, it updates the send button's state, tooltip and displays a relevant banner.
Previously this dropdown was only for selecting streams, but
soon it will also be for switching to a private message. This
name helps it be clearer that the dropdown is more general
purpose.
We now show a banner on opening the compose box and changing the
stream in dropdown, if a user is not allowed to post in a stream.
The "Send" button is also disabled if user is not allowed to post
in the stream.
This commit also moved the CSS for disabled modal button in dark
theme below after the other CSS for modals as we are using the
same CSS for the "Send" button as well in disabled state.
This helps reduce the amount of import cycles we have in the compose
code path following the migration to a fancier stream input.
`compose_closed_ui.initialize()` was moved further down in the
initialization order because it relies on the dropdown widget
to be defined.
Fixes#11832
This lets the user see more options than the three that appear
in the typeahead menu, and prevents them from inputting invalid
stream names.
This change replaces the input field with the dropdown, and
updates everything that referred to the classnames of the old
input field, so that they now get the data they need from the
new dropdown.
Uptil now, 1 new line was added before and 1 after a quoted message. Now
for more breathing room around a quoted message, new lines are inserted
to space it from any content before and after by at least 2 new lines.
Fixes: #23608.
This lets us simplify the long-ish ‘../../static/js’ paths, and will
remove the need for the ‘zrequire’ wrapper.
