I saw some profiling traces where it appears multiple copies of this
click handler got processed when clicking on a topic in the left
sidebar.
I suspect that was a profiling artifact, but the intent is for
on_topic_click to fully process clicks on topics in the sidebar, and
we should write the code to say that.
We refactor the following inputs to use a `placeholder-shown` CSS selector to
show/hide the close button, rather than custom JS logic:
- Filter topics field in the left sidebar
- Filter direct messages field under direct messages
- Stream message topic
Earlier, in left sidebar, clicking on followed topic icon would narrow
to the topic.
This commit introduces the ability to open topic status menu from
left sidebar from followed topic icon.
Fixes: zulip#28941.
Shift-clicking a link on most browsers should open the link in a new window,
not navigate inside the current tab, just like ctrl-click opens in a new tab.
This was just debugging logic working around the fact that vdom.ts was
not originally implemented in TypeScript, and should not be polluting
our types.
