If we don't revoke sessions, this can lead to issues when we import a
realm (e.g. from Slack) into the original subdomain for the same
organization. Because then, users who already had sessions before the
move end up stuck:
- when they try to open Zulip on the original subdomain, which now has
the imported instance, they get redirected to the moved subdomain due to
their pre-existing session cookie.
- they can't even log out to get rid of the bugged cookie, because the
account they're logged into in that session is now on the moved
subdomain.
This commit adds `durable=True` to the outermost db transactions
created in the following:
* confirm_email_change
* handle_upload_pre_finish_hook
* deliver_scheduled_emails
* restore_data_from_archive
* do_change_realm_subdomain
* do_create_realm
* do_deactivate_realm
* do_reactivate_realm
* do_delete_user
* do_delete_user_preserving_messages
* create_stripe_customer
* process_initial_upgrade
* do_update_plan
* request_sponsorship
* upload_message_attachment
* register_remote_server
* do_soft_deactivate_users
* maybe_send_batched_emails
It helps to avoid creating unintended savepoints in the future.
This is as a part of our plan to explicitly mark all the
transaction.atomic calls with either 'savepoint=False' or
'durable=True' as required.
* 'savepoint=True' is used in special cases.
As we would like to send similar notifications for other billing
state changes (for all BillingSession types), it makes sense to
move the logic for creating and sending these admin realm internal
messages to the BillingSession framework in the corporate app.
In the case that a channel with the specified name does not exist,
we now send direct messages to the admin realm administrators with
the channel, topic and message so that the information is not lost
and so that the channel for these messages can be created.
Creates a new "realm_deactivated" email that can be sent to realm
owners as part of `do_deactivate_realm`, via a boolean flag,
`email_owners`.
This flag is set to `False` when `do_deactivate_realm` is used for
realm exports or changing a realm's subdomain, so that the active
organization owners are not emailed in those cases.
This flag is optional for the `deactivate_realm` management command,
but as there is no active user passed in that case, then the email
is sent without referencing who deactivated the realm.
It is passed as `True` for the support analytics view, but the email
that is generated does not include information about the support
admin user who completed the request for organization deactivation.
When an active organization owner deactivates the organization, then
the flag is `True` and an email is sent to them as well as any other
active organization owners, with a slight variation in the email text
for those two cases.
Adds specific tests for when `email_owners` is passed as `True`. All
existing tests for other functionality of `do_deactivate_user` pass
the flag as `False`.
Adds `localize` from django.util.formats as a jinja env filter so
that the dates in these emails are internationlized for the owner's
default language setting in the "realm_deactivated" email templates.
Fixes#24685.
This commit removes create_public_stream_policy setting
since public channel creation permissions are now handled
by group-based setting.
We still pass "realm_create_public_stream_policy" in
"/register" response though for older clients with its
value being set depending on the value of group based
setting. If we cannot set its value to an appropriate
enum corresponding to the group setting, then we set
it to "Members only" considering that server will not
allow the users without permissions to create public
channels but the client can make sure that UI is
available to the users who have permission.
Migration plan:
1. Add NULLable .last_update_id column to UserPresence with default 0
for new objects.
2. Backfill the value to 0 for old UserPresences, can be done in the
background while server is running.
3. Make the column non-NULL.
4. Add new model PresenceSequence and create its rows for old realms.
This commit updates code, majorly in tests, to use
setting values from enums instead of directly using
the constants defined in Realm.
We still have those constants defined Realm as they
are used in a couple of places where the same code
is used for different settings. These will be
handled later.
It's going to be helpful in the future to record the reason for realm
deactivation.
- For information tracking
- For making a distinction between cases where we can allow realm owners
to reactivate their realm via a self-serve flow (e.g.
"owner_request") vs where we can't (ToS abuse).
Mark the channel name of the initial channel created during
realm creation for translation.
It doesn't mark the topic names and description for translation
because we are planning to remove these topics and update the
description as a part of improving the onboarding experience.
We no longer create the 'core team' private channel when
a realm is created.
Earlier, "New user announcements" channel was set to the
"core team" channel. Now it is disabled by default.
populate_db still creates the 'core team' channel to
represent a private channel.
In #23380, we are changing all occurrences of uri with url in order to
follow the latest URL standard. Previous PRs #25038 and #25045 has
replaced the occurences of uri that has no direct relation with realm.
This commit changes just the model property, which has no API
compatibility concerns.
This commit adds a management command that will run regularly
as a cron job to send zulip updates to realms based on their
current and latest zulip_update_announcements_level.
For realms with:
* level = None: Send a group DM to admins notifying them about
this new feature & suggestion to set the stream accordingly.
* level = 0:
* If stream is still not configured, wait for a week
before setting their level to latest level. They will
miss updates until their configure the stream.
* If stream is configured, send updates.
* level > 0: Send one message/update per level & increase
the level by 1 till the latest level.
Fixes#28604.
Only affects zulipchat, by being based on the BILLING_ENABLED setting.
The restricted backends in this commit are
- AzureAD - restricted to Standard plan
- SAML - restricted to Plus plan, although it was already practically
restricted due to requiring server-side configuration to be done by us
This restriction is placed upon **enabling** a backend - so
organizations that already have a backend enabled, will continue to be
able to use it. This allows us to make exceptions and enable a backend
for an org manually via the shell, and to grandfather organizations into
keeping the backend they have been relying on.
This commit adds a realm-level setting named
'zulip_update_announcements_stream' that configures the
stream to which zulip updates should be posted.
Fixes part of #28604.
This commit renames the realm-level setting
'signup_notifications_stream' to 'signup_announcements_stream'.
The new name reflects better what the setting does.
This commit renames the realm-level setting 'notifications_stream'
to 'new_stream_announcements_stream'.
The new name reflects better what the setting does.
This is preparatory work towards adding a Topic model.
We plan to use the local variable name as 'topic' for
the Topic model objects.
Currently, we use *topic as the local variable name for
topic names.
We rename local variables of the form *topic to *topic_name
so that we don't need to think about type collisions in
individual code paths where we might want to talk about both
Topic objects and strings for the topic name.
This is a rename of the previous
enqueue_register_realm_with_push_bouncer_if_needed but is clearer
about the fact that this will also upload audit logs if available.
Adds a helper since there are only a few different parameters for
all BillingSession child clases, `build_support_url`.
Also, renames `get_support_url` to more explicitly note that it
is for realms: `get_realm_support_url`.
This commit renames permissions_configuration variable to
permission_configuration since the object contains config for
a single permission setting and thus permission_configuration
seems like a better name.
In this commit, we add a new dropdown 'Organization language' on
the `/new` and `/realm/register` pages. This dropdown allows setting
the language of the organization during its creation. This allows
messages from Welcome Bot and introductory messages in streams to be
internationalized.
Fixes a part of #25729.
This commit does the backend changes required for adding a realm
setting based on groups permission model and does the API changes
required for the new setting `Who can create multiuse invite link`.
This migration applies under the assumption that extra_data_json has
been populated for all existing and coming audit log entries.
- This removes the manual conversions back and forth for extra_data
throughout the codebase including the orjson.loads(), orjson.dumps(),
and str() calls.
- The custom handler used for converting Decimal is removed since
DjangoJSONEncoder handles that for extra_data.
- We remove None-checks for extra_data because it is now no longer
nullable.
- Meanwhile, we want the bouncer to support processing RealmAuditLog entries for
remote servers before and after the JSONField migration on extra_data.
- Since now extra_data should always be a dict for the newer remote
server, which is now migrated, the test cases are updated to create
RealmAuditLog objects by passing a dict for extra_data before
sending over the analytics data. Note that while JSONField allows for
non-dict values, a proper remote server always passes a dict for
extra_data.
- We still test out the legacy extra_data format because not all
remote servers have migrated to use JSONField extra_data.
This verifies that support for extra_data being a string or None has not
been dropped.

We do not pass "email_address_visibility" to do_create_realm
anymore. It was passed before to set the setting for realms in
development database, but it has been changed since we changed
email_address_visibility to be a user-level setting instead
of realm-level setting since now it is set on RealmUserDefault
table.
So far, we've used the BitField .authentication_methods on Realm
for tracking which backends are enabled for an organization. This
however made it a pain to add new backends (requiring altering the
column and a migration - particularly troublesome if someone wanted to
create their own custom auth backend for their server).
Instead this will be tracked through the existence of the appropriate
rows in the RealmAuthenticationMethods table.
When a new realm is created, a notification message is sent to
the realm configured as the settings.SYSTEM_BOT_REALM if there
is a "signups" stream that exists in that realm. This is used
for Zulip Cloud, but is an undocumented feature.
The topic of the message has been the subdomain of the new realm,
and the message content has been "Signups enabled" translated
into the default language of the new realm.
In order to make these messages more explicitly for Zulip Cloud,
the settings.CORPORATE_ENABLED is checked before sending these
messages.
To make these messages more useful, the topic for these
notifications is changed to be "new organizations". The content
of these messages is updated to have the new realm name (with a
link to the admin realm's activity support page for the realm),
subdomain (with a link to the realm), and organization type.
