This commit changes the invite API to accept invitation
expiration time in minutes since we are going to add a
custom option in further commits which would allow a user
to set expiration time in minutes, hours and weeks as well.
It's natural that someone might try a wrong password 5 times, and then
go through a successful password reset; forcing such users to wait
half an hour before typing in the password they just changed the
account to seems unnecessarily punitive.
Clear the rate-limit upon successful password change.
It was there to work around https://bugs.python.org/issue17519. This
workaround with del seems like a partial improvement.

TestMaybeSendToRegistration needs tweaking here, because it wasn't
setting the subdomain for the dummy request, so
maybe_send_to_registration was actually running with realm=None, which
is not right for these tests.
Also, test_sso_only_when_preregistration_user_exists was creating
PreregistrationUser without setting the realm, which was also incorrect.
The codepaths for joining an organization via a multi-use invitation
(accounts_home_from_multiuse_invite and maybe_send_to_registration)
weren't validating whether
the organization the invite was generated for matches the organization
the user attempts to join - potentially allowing an attacker with access
to organization A to generate a multi-use invite and use it to join
organization B within the same deployment, that they shouldn't have
access to.
Adds `realm_web_public_access_enabled` as a realm-specific server
setting potentially returned by the `/get-server-settings` endpoint
so that clients that support browsing of web-public stream content
without an account can generate a login page that supports that
type of access.
match_querystring is irrelevant in these cases. Fixes this warning:

This replaces the TERMS_OF_SERVICE and PRIVACY_POLICY settings with
just a POLICIES_DIRECTORY setting, in order to support settings (like

With minor changes by Eeshan Garg.
The user id is a very useful piece of information that the mobile
client should have access to - instead of only getting the email. This
makes it much simpler to impleent clients that might be robust to
changes in email address.
For users who are not logged in and for those who don't have
'prefers_web_public_view' set in session, we redirect them
to the default login page where they can choose to login
as spectator or authenticated user.
Fixes#17456.
The main tricky part has to do with what values the attribute should
have. LDAP defines a Boolean as
Boolean = "TRUE" / "FALSE"
so ideally we'd always see exactly those values. However,
although the issue is now marked as resolved, the discussion in
https://pagure.io/freeipa/issue/1259 shows how this may not always be
respected - meaning it makes sense for us to be more liberal in
interpreting these values.
The previous commit introduced logging of attempts for username+password
backends. For completeness, we should log, in the same format,
successful attempts via social auth backends.
This extends the invite api endpoints to handle an extra
argument, expiration duration, which states the number of
days before the invitation link expires.
For prereg users, expiration info is attached to event
object to pass it to invite queue processor in order to
create and send confirmation link.
In case of multiuse invites, confirmation links are
created directly inside do_create_multiuse_invite_link(),
For filtering valid user invites, expiration info stored in
Confirmation object is used, which is accessed by a prereg
user using reverse generic relations.
Fixes#16359.
The commit:
1. Adds the new field as nullable.
2. Adds code that'll create new Confirmation with the field set
correctly.
3. For verifying validity of Confirmation object this still uses the old
logic in get_object_from_key() to keep things functioning until we
backfill the old objects in the next step.
Thus this commit is deployable. Next we'll have a commit to run a
backfill migration.
These changes are all independent of each other; I just didn’t feel
like making dozens of commits for them.

Return zulip_merge_base alongside zulip_version
in `/register`, `/event` and `/server_settings`
endpoint so that the value can be used by other
clients.
The code didn't account for existence of SOCIAL_AUTH_SUBDOMAIN. So the
redirects would happen to endpoints on the SOCIAL_AUTH_SUBDOMAIN, which
is incorrect. The redirects should happen to the realm from which the
user came.
This fixes a batch of mypy errors of the following format:
'Item "None" of "Optional[Something]" has no attribute "abc"
Since we have already been recklessly using these attritbutes
in the tests, adding assertions beforehand is justified presuming
that they oughtn't to be None.
These tests didn't configure ldap settings correctly and as a result,
the user involved in these tests wasn't actually hamlet@zulip.com, but a
new, malformed user with email "hamlet" that was being created by the
ldap auto-registration codepath. This wasn't caught because the codepath
didn't validate the email address and thus created such a malformed user
silently.
Fixes#17277.
The main limitation of this implementation is that the sync happens if
the user authing already exists. This means that a new user going
through the sign up flow will not have their custom fields synced upon
finishing it. The fields will get synced on their consecutive log in via
SAML in the future. This can be addressed in the future by moving the
syncing code further down the codepaths to login_or_register_remote_user
and plumbing the data through to the user creation process.
We detail that limitation in the documentation.
The previous hashers mirrored the ones used in production, but that was
non-ideal because those are slow. Replacing them with quick hashers is a
performance improvement for those tests.
Raising jsonableError in the authentication form was non-ideal because
it took the user to an ugly page with the returned json.
We also add logging of this rare occurence of the scenario being
handled here.
user_profile.check_password(password) in authenticate of
EmailAuthBackend can raise PasswordTooWeakError; this happens when the
user's password is weaker than the current required policies and needs
to be rehashed (E.g. because, as in Django 3.2, the minimum salt
entropy increased).
This is a very rare case, but still needs a good user-facing error
message. We raise a json error to handle this with a user-facing error
message.
See this comment by Mateusz Mandera for a detailed explanation
about this case along with a traceback it generates.

This allows access to be more configurable than just setting one
attribute. This can be configured by setting the setting
AUTH_LDAP_ADVANCED_REALM_ACCESS_CONTROL.
This adds the is_user_active with the appropriate code for setting the
value correctly in the future. In the following commit a migration to
backfill the value for existing Subscriptions will be added.
To ensure correct user_profile.is_active handling also in tests, we
replace all direct .is_active mutation with calls to appropriate
functions.
This adds an option for restricting a ldap user
to only be allowed to login into certain realms.
This is done by configuring an attribute mapping of "org_membership"
to an ldap attribute that will contain the list of subdomains the ldap
user is allowed to access. This is analogous to how it's done in SAML.

The name used to be included in the id_token, but this seems to have
been changed by Apple and now it's sent in the `user` request param.
https://github.com/python-social-auth/social-core/pull/483 is the
upstream PR for this - but upstream is currently unmaintained, so we
have to monkey patch.
We also alter the tests to reflect this situation. Tests no longer put
the name in the id_token, but rather in the `user` request param in the
browser flow, just like it happens in reality.
An adaptation has to be made in the native flow - since the name won't
be included by Apple in the id_token anymore, the app, when POSTing
to the /complete/apple/ endpoint,
can (and should for better user experience)
add the `user` param formatted as json of
{"email": "hamlet@zulip.com", "name": {"firstName": "Full", "lastName": "Name"}}
dict. This is also reflected by the change in the
native flow tests.
A later commit alters `authenticate` of EmailAuthBackend to
add a store `needs_to_change_password` variable to session
which is useful to insist users on changing their weak password.
The tests start failing with that change because client.login()
runs `authenticate` without a `request` object. So, this commit
sends a request object with `request.session=self.client.session`
to self.client.login() in tests wherever needed.
We previously used to to redirect to config error page with
a different URL. This commit renders config error in the same
URL where configuration error is encountered. This way when
conifguration error is fixed the user can refresh to continue
normally or go back to login page from the link provided to
choose any other backend auth.
Also moved those URLs to dev_urls.py so that they can be easily
accessed to work on styling etc.
In tests, removed some of the asserts checking status code to be 200
as the function `assert_in_success_response` does that check.
Replace default root logger with zulip.auth.apple for apple auth
in file zproject/backends.py and update the test cases
accordingly in file zerver/tests/test_auth_backends.py
Replaced mock.patch with assertLogs for testing log outputs
in file test_auth_backends.py.
This change requires adjusting
test_log_into_subdomain_when_email_is_none to use an explicit token
since that appears in the log output.
There are three functional side effects:
• Correct an insignificant but mathematically offensive bias toward
repeated characters in generate_api_key introduced in commit
47b4283c4b4c70ecde4d3c8de871c90ee2506d87; its entropy is increased
from 190.52864 bits to 190.53428 bits.
• Use the base32 alphabet in confirmation.models.generate_key; its
entropy is reduced from 124.07820 bits to the documented 120 bits, but
now it uses 1 syscall instead of 24.
• Use the base32 alphabet in get_bigbluebutton_url; its entropy is
reduced from 51.69925 bits to 50 bits, but now it uses 1 syscall
instead of 10.
(The base32 alphabet is A-Z 2-7. We could probably replace all of
these with plain secrets.token_urlsafe, since I expect most callers
can handle the full urlsafe_b64 alphabet A-Z a-z 0-9 - _ without
problems.)

Our intent throughout the codebase is to treat email
case-insensitively.
The only codepath affected by this bug is remote_user_sso, as that's the
only one that currently passes potentially both a user_profile and
ExternalAuthDataDict when creating the ExternalAuthResult. That's why we
add a test specifically for that codepath.
The apple developer webapp consistently refers this App ID. So,
this clears any confusion that can occur.
Since python social auth only requires us to include App ID in
_AUDIENCE(a list), we do that in computed settings making it easier for
server admin and we make it much clear by having it set to
APP_ID instead of BUNDLE_ID.
Uses git release as this version 3.4.0 is not released to pypi.
This is required for removing some overriden functions of
apple auth backend class AppleAuthBackend.
With the update we also make following changes:
* Fix full name being populated as "None None".
c5c74f27dd that's included in update assigns first_name and last_name
to None when no name is provided by apple. Due to this our
code is filling return_data['full_name'] to 'None None'.
This commit fixes it by making first and last name strings empty.
* Remove decode_id_token override.
Python social auth merged the PR we sent including the changes
we made to decode_id_token function. So, now there is no
necessity for the override.
* Add _AUDIENCE setting in computed_settings.py.
`decode_id_token` is dependent on this setting.
In particular importing gitter data leads to having accounts with these
noreply github emails. We generally only want users to have emails that
we can actually send messages to, so we'll keep the old behavior of
disallowing sign up with such an email address. However, if an account
of this type already exists, we should allow the user to have access to
it.
A few major themes here:
- We remove short_name from UserProfile
and add the appropriate migration.
- We remove short_name from various
cache-related lists of fields.
- We allow import tools to continue to
write short_name to their export files,
and then we simply ignore the field
at import time.
- We change functions like do_create_user,
create_user_profile, etc.
- We keep short_name in the /json/bots
API. (It actually gets turned into
an email.)
- We don't modify our LDAP code much
here.
Due to authentication restrictions, a deployment may need to direct
traffic for mobile applications to an alternate uri to take advantage
alternate authentication mechansism. By default the standard realm URI
will be usedm but if overridden in the settings file, an alternate uri
can be substituted.
Because of other validation on these values, I don't believe any of
these does anything different, but these changes improve readability
and likely make GitHub's code scanners happy.
The helper should be used instead of constructing the dict manually.
Change get_account_data_dict, on GitHubAuthBackendTest
class, so it has a third argument, user_avatar_url.
This is a preparation for support using GitHub avatar
upon user resgistration (when the user logs using
GitHub).
subdomain=None didn't make much sense as a value, and wasn't actually in
use anywhere, except one test where it was accidental. All tests specify
the subdomain explicitly, so we should change the type to str, and make
it an obligatory kwarg.
Adds the ability to set a SAML attribute which contains a
list of subdomains the user is allowed to access. This allows a Zulip
server with multiple organizations to filter using SAML attributes
which organization each user can access.

needs more.

Old: a validator returns None on success and returns an error string
on error.
New: a validator returns the validated value on success and raises
ValidationError on error.
This allows mypy to catch mismatches between the annotated type of a
REQ parameter and the type that the validator actually validates.

The most import change here is the one in maybe_send_to_registration
codepath, as the insufficient validation there could lead to fetching
an expired PreregistrationUser that was invited as an administrator
admin even years ago, leading to this registration ending up in the
new user being a realm administrator.
Combined with the buggy migration in
0198_preregistrationuser_invited_as.py, this led to users incorrectly
joining as organizations administrators by accident. But even without
that bug, this issue could have allowed a user who was invited as an
administrator but then had that invitation expire and then joined via
social authentication incorrectly join as an organization administrator.
The second change is in ConfirmationEmailWorker, where this wasn't a
security problem, but if the server was stopped for long enough, with
some invites to send out email for in the queue, then after starting it
up again, the queue worker would send out emails for invites that
had already expired.
Fixes#14828.
Giving the /subdomain/<token>/ url there could feel buggy if the user
ended up using the token in the desktop app, and then tried clicking the
"continue in browser" link - which had the same token that would now be
expired. It's sufficient to simply link to /login/ instead.

to handle native flow.

Regenerated by tabbott with `lint --fix` after a rebase and change in

Note from tabbott: In a few cases, this converts technical debt in the
form of unsorted imports into different technical debt in the form of

start. I expect this change will increase pressure for us to split
those files, which isn't a bad thing.

ACCESS_TOKEN_URL works a different for apple authentication, so,
we removed and remocked the ACCESS_TOKEN_URL mock in
`register_extra_endpoints` override of apple auth test class.
It is cleaner to have it as generic feature of `social_auth_test`.
So, this commit adds a function that returns token_data_dict that
we had earlier and is called in the ACCESS_TOKEN_URL mock.
This function is overriden in apple auth test class to generate
payload of the format that apple auth expects.

Adds a top-level logger in `settings.LOGGING` `zulip.auth`
with the default handlers `DEFAULT_ZULIP_HANDLERS` and
an extra hanlder that writes to `/var/log/zulip/auth.log`.
Each auth backend uses it's own logger, `self.logger` which
is in form 'zulip.auth.<backend name>'.
This way it's clear which auth backend generated the log
and is easier to look for all authentication logs in one file.
Besides the above mentioned changes, `name` attribute is added to
`ZulipAuthMixin` so that these logging kind of calls wouldn't raise
any issues when logging is tried in a class without `name` attribute.
Also in the tests we use a new way to check if logger calls are made
i.e. we use `assertLogs` to test if something is logged.
Thanks to Mateusz Mandera for the idea of having a seperate logger
for auth backends and suggestion of using `assertLogs`.

mock is just a backport of the standard library’s unittest.mock now.
The SAMLAuthBackendTest change is needed because

The PROVISION_VERSION bump is skipped because mock is still an

This is important, because lack of this meant that the POST request in
our tests still had the old session, with various params stored in it.
This mechanism doesn't work in reality in SAML, so the backend uses
redis to store and recover the params from redis. Without flushing the
session, these tests would fail to catch some breakages in the
redis-based mechanism.
