This doesn't make sense if the realm is active and will fail as soon as
do_reactivate_realm is fixed in the next commit to be a noop and not
create confused RealmAuditLog entries when the realm is active.
Previously, we included all three message edit related settings
("allow_message_editing", "message_content_edit_limit_seconds" and
"edit_topic_policy") in the event data and api response irrespective
of which of these settings were changed. Now, we only include changed
settings and separate events are sent for each setting if more than
one of them is changed.
Note that the previous typed in event_schema.py for
`message_content_edit_limit_seconds` incorrectly did not allow `None`
as a value, which is used to encode no limit.
We allow only owners to change the waiting period setting to become
full member. This commit contains only backend changes, frontend
changes will be done separately.
We allow only owners to change disallow_disposable_email_addresses
and emails_restricted_to_domains settings. This commit only contains
change in backend part, frontend changes will be done separately.
We allow only owners to change the invite_required setting.
This commit only adds the restriction in backend, frontend
changes will be done separately.
We also add a helper function in test_realm.py to avoid
writing same code repeatedly and this helper will also
be used in tests for other settings to be added in
further commits.
Added a user_list_style personal user setting to the bottom of
Settings > Display settings > Theme section which controls the look
of the right sidebar user list.
The radio button UI includes a preview of what the styles look like.
The setting is intended to eventually have 3 possible values: COMPACT,
WITH_STATUS and WITH_AVATAR; the final value is not yet implemented.

This commit changes the code to consider zero as an invalid value for
message_content_edit_time_limit_seconds. Now to represent the setting that
user can edit the message anytime, the setting value will be "None" in
database and "unlimited" will be passed to API from clients.

This commit modifies bulk_create_users to add the users to the

development environment are also added to system groups.
Tests are changed accordingly as more UserGroupMembeship objects
are created.
We do not allow changing enable_spectator_access to True using API on
limited plan realms. Frontend changes have been done previously.
This is a follow-up of #22179.
Since we not allow enabling public access on limited plan realms,
we set the enable_spectator_access setting to False when downgrading
to a limited plan. Setting is still shown in the UI but it is
disabled.
Now that we can assume Python 3.6+, we can use the
email.headerregistry module to replace hacky manual email address
parsing.

This commit changes the error message from "Invalid stream id"
to "Invalid stream ID" for cases where invalid stream IDs are
passed to API endpoints to make it consistent with other similar
error messages.
`org_type` already exists as a field in the Realm model and is
used when organizations are created / updated in Zulip Cloud,
via the `/analytics/support` view.
Extends the `PATCH /realm` view to be able update `org_type` as
other realm / organization settings are updated, but using the
special log / action that was created for the analytics view.
Adds a field to the `realm op: update` / `realm op: update_dict`
events, which also means an event is now sent when and if the
`org_type` is updated via the analytics view. This is similar
to how updates to an organization's `plan_type` trigger events.
Adds `realm_org_type` as a realm setting fetched from the
`POST /register` endpoint.
This will make it convenient to add a handful of organizations to the
beta of this feature during its first few weeks to try to catch bugs,
before we open it to everyone in Zulip Cloud.
This commit changes web_public_streams_enabled to return False if
realm.enable_spectator_access is False. This is added so that
creating web-public streams is not allowed if enable_spectator_access
is False.
Enable spectator access for test `zulip` realm in developement
setup.
Add option in `do_create_realm` to configure
`enable_spectator_access` field of `Realm`.
It is confusing to have the plan type constants not be namespaced
by the thing they represent. We already have a namespacing
convention in place for constants, so we should use it for
Realm.plan_type as well.
This commit adds create_web_public_stream_policy
field to Realm table which controls the roles that
can create web-public streams and by default its
value is set to POLICY_OWNERS_ONLY.
This makes our onboarding guide for education organizations much
simpler, since new organizations will start with these settings
correctly configured.
Fixes#19682
Users wanted a feature where they could specify
which users can create public streams and which users can
create private streams.
This splits stream creation code into two parts,
public and private stream creation.
Fixes#17009.
This commit replaces 'allow_message_deleting' boolean setting
with an integer setting 'delete_own_message_policy'. We have a
separate dropdown now for deciding which user-roles can delete
messages sent by themselves and the time-limit setting droddown
is different.
This new setting has two options - everyone and admins only. Other
options including moderators will be added further.
We also remove the "Never" option from the original time-limit
dropdown, as admins are always allowed to delete message. This
never option resembled the case of only admins being allowed to
delete but this state is now resembled by setting the dropdown
to "admins only" and we also disable the time-limit dropdown in
this case as admins are allowed to delete irrespective of limit.
Note, this setting is only for deleting messages sent by the
deleting user themselves, and only admins are allowed to delete
messages sent by others as before.
We make zero invalid value for message_content_delete_limit_seconds and
for handling the case of "Allow to delete message any time", the API-level
value of message_content_delete_limit_seconds is "anytime" and "None"
as the DB-level value. We also use these values for message retention
setting, so it helps maintain consistency.
This commit does not remove the 'enable_login_emails' field from
RealmUserDefault table but it is just not used and cannot be
changed from UI or API similar to 'enable_marketing_emails' setting.
This commit removes the existing default_twenty_four_hour_time field in
Realm table which was used to set the twenty_four_hour_time setting of
new user on joining and instead we now use the twenty_four_hour_time
field of RealmUserDefault table for the same.
With some tweaks by tabbott to clarify the documentation.
This new setting both serves as a guard to allow us to merge API
support for web public streams to main before we're ready for this
feature to be available on Zulip Cloud, and also long term will
protect self-hosted servers from accidentally enabling web-public
streams (which could be a scary possibility for the administrators of
a corporate Zulip server).
This commit updates both the stream-level and realm-level message
retention setting to use 'unlimited' instead of 'forever' to set
message retention setting to "retain messages forever".
This commit replaces boolean field add_emoji_by_admins_only with an
integer field add_custom_emoji_policy as we would also add full members
and moderators option for this setting in further commits.
This fixes a batch of mypy errors of the following format:
'Item "None" of "Optional[Something]" has no attribute "abc"
Since we have already been recklessly using these attritbutes
in the tests, adding assertions beforehand is justified presuming
that they oughtn't to be None.
We remove the "full_name" and "account_email" fields from the response
of 'PATCH /settings' endpoint. These fields were part of the response
to make sure that we tell that the parameters not present in response
were ignored.
We can remove these fields as 'ignored_parameters_unsupported' now
specifies which parameters were ignored and not supported by the
endpoint.
This commit adds moderators and full members options for
user_group_edit_policy by using COMMON_POLICY_TYPES.
Moderators do not require to be a member of user group in
order to edit or remove the user group if they are allowed
to do so according to user_group_edit_policy.
But full members need to be a member of user group to edit
or remove the user group.
Since do_create_realm also creates general and core team streams,
we rename general to verona right after the realm is created. Mostly
because we dont really want two additional streams and this might
probably make it easy to review things.
There are puppeteer test changes because, we have a new "core team"
stream in tests as well as there is a new default notification stream
"Verona". Because of this tests in message-basics for example have
to be changed since the newly added core team affects the order in
which we navigate through the streams using arrow keys.
The extra await for selector was added in subscriptions test to make
the tests wait. Without the await the tests were passing ocassionally
and failing in some other times.
Fixes#6967
The list of possible values of all settings was re-defined in
do_test_realm_update_api and we can instead use the list defined
in models.py which is used to validate values in views/realm.py.
There is no problem in order of values as we always initialize the
first value of the list.
This has also added some more values to test for a couple of
settings as a result.
We change the test_change_realm_default_language to test only invalid
value and rename it to test_invalid_realm_default_language, because
we already test whether the value is changed correctly or not in
do_test_realm_update_api.
This commit removes test_change_bot_creation_policy which is used
to test changing bot_creation_policy using 'PATCH /realm' endpoint
as we already do this in do_test_realm_update_api and invalid value
is also tested in test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This commit removes test_change_email_address_visibility which is used
to test changing email_address_visibility using 'PATCH /realm' endpoint
as we already do this in do_test_realm_update_api and invalid value is
also tested in test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This commit removes test_change_invite_to_stream_policy which is used
to test changing invite_to_stream_policy using 'PATCH /realm' endpoint
as we already do this in do_test_realm_update_api and invalid value
is also tested in test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This commit removes test_change_invite_to_realm_policy which is used
to test changing invite_to_realm_policy using 'PATCH /realm' endpoint
as we already do this in do_test_realm_update_api and invalid value
is also tested in test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This commit removes test_change_move_messages_between_streams_policy
which is used to test changing move_messages_between_streams_policy
using 'PATCH /realm' endpoint as we already do this in
do_test_realm_update_api and invalid value is also tested in
test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This commit removes test_user_group_edit_policy which is used
to test changing user_group_edit_policy using 'PATCH /realm'
endpoint as we already do this in do_test_realm_update_api and
invalid value is also tested in test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This commit removes test_private_message_policy which is used to
test changing private_message_policy using 'PATCH /realm' endpoint
as we already do this in do_test_realm_update_api and invalid
value is also tested in test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This commit removes test_change_wildcard_mention_policy which is
used to test changing wildcard_mention_policy using 'PATCH /realm'
endpoint as we already do this in do_test_realm_update_api and
invalid value is also tested in test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This commit removes test_change_stream_creation_policy which is
used to test changing create_stream_policy using 'PATCH /realm'
endpoint as we already do this in do_test_realm_update_api and
invalid value is also tested in test_invalid_integer_attribute_values.
This is a prep commit in preparation of splitting
create_stream_policy into create_private_stream_policy
and create_public_stream_policy.
This extracts it in a way to make it possible to easily test
different stream policies in the upcoming stream policy split.
This commit replaces the allow_community_topic_editing boolean with
integer field edit_topic_policy and includes both frontend and
backend changes.
We also update settings_ui.disable_sub_settings_onchange to not
change the color of label as we did previously when the setting
was a checkbox. But now as the setting is dropdown we keep the
label as it is and we don't do anything with label when disabling
dropdowns. Also, this function was used only here so we can safely
change this.
This is will make it easier to systematically use Django's
`capturOnCommitCallbacks` in tests outside of the main
`test_events` file which involve assertions on events.
We should only keep tests for changing email_address_visibility in
test_realm.py. The tests for checking the value of delivery_email
and email in the user dicts returned by 'GET users/{user_id}'
endpoint according to email_address_visibility should be in
test_users.py and not test_realm.py.
The tests of other realm settings are also arranged in the same way.
This commit makes the test more robust by checking for all
possible values of email_address_visibility and checking
emails and delivery emails values received by different
user roles.
Organization admins can use this setting to restrict the maximum
rating of GIFs that will be retrieved from GIPHY. Also, there
is option to disable GIPHY too.
* Don't require strings to be unnecessarily JSON-encoded.
* Use check_capped_string rather than custom code for length checks.
* Update frontend to pass the right parameters.
With a much simplified populate_data_for_request design suggested by
Anders; we only support a handful of data types, all of which are
correctly encoded automatically by jQuery.
Fixes part of #18035.
The moderator role was not included in the tests for create_stream_policy
and invite_to_stream_policy. The tests are do_set_realm_property_test
in test_events.py and do_test_realm_update_api in test_realm.py.
This should have been added for create_stream_policy in 5b32dcd and
in 5b32dcd for invite_to_stream_policy, but was missed by mistake.
We add moderators and full members option to invite_to_realm_policy
by using COMMON_POLICY_TYPES and use can_invite_others_to_realm helper
added in previous commit. This commit only does the backend work,
frontend work will be done in separate commit.
This commit replaces invite_by_admins_policy, which was a bool field,
with a new enum field invite_by_realm_policy.
Though the final goal is to add moderators and full members option
using COMMON_POLICY_TYPES, but this will be done in a separate
commit to make this easy for review.
self.example_user("hamlet") uses get_user_by_delivery_email, so it
doesn't actually cache anything. This should use a cached function, like
the test below: test_do_change_realm_subdomain_clears_user_realm_cache.
When changing the subdomain of a realm, create a deactivated realm with
the old subdomain of the realm, and set its deactivated_redirect to the
new subdomain.
Doing this will help us to do the following:
- When a user visits the old subdomain of a realm, we can tell the user
that the realm has been moved.
- During the registration process, we can assure that the old subdomain
of the realm is not used to create a new realm.
If the subdomain is changed multiple times, the deactivated_redirect
fields of all the deactivated realms are updated to point to the new
uri.
We export a realm's data, and disable the realm, because the user
is moving from Zulip Cloud (e.g. https://example.zulipchat.com/) to
self-hosting or another platform (e.g. https://zulip.example.com/)
which we do not control. This commit adds a field in the realm object
called deactivated_redirect to store the url to which the realm has
moved.
This commit removes mock.patch with assertLogs().
* Adds return value to do_rest_call() in outgoing_webhook.py, to
support asserting log output in test_outgoing_webhook_system.py.
* Logs are not asserted in test_realm.py because it would require to users
to be queried using users=User.objects.filter(realm=realm) and the order
of resulting queryset varies for each run.
* In test_decorators.py, replacement of mock.patch is not done because
I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to replace it as it's a return
value of a function.
Tweaked by tabbott to set proper mypy types.
We add a new wildcard_mention_policy setting to handle wildcard
mentions in large streams, with a wide range of policies available to
organizations.
We set the default to the safe option for preventing accidental spam:
only stream administrators being able to use wildcard mentions in
large streams.

Currently, we use -1 as the Realm.message_retention_days value to retain
message forever unless specified at stream level for a particular stream,
that is, no policy set at the realm level. But this is incoherent with what
we use for Stream.message_retention_days where -1 means
> disable retention policy for this stream unconditionally
that can be confusing from an API standpoint.
So instead of trying some hack to reset the value to NULL or using some
other value like -2 for RETAIN_MESSAGE_FOREVER and use that for API. It is
much more intuitive to use a string like 'forever' that can be mapped to
RETAIN_MESSAGE_FOREVER at the backend. And this is similar to what we use
for streams settings as well.
Attachment objects in production are only created in one place, which
passses a size. Additionally, I verified in multiple production
environments with old data that this never actually happens (or has
happened).
So we should make the data model correctly reflect the possibilities here.
Google has removed the Google Hangouts brand, thus we are removing
them as video chat provider option.
This commit removes Google Hangouts integration and make a migration
that sets all realms that are using Hangouts as their video chat
provider to the default, jitsi.
With changes by tabbott to improve the overall video call documentation.
Fixes: #15298.
This commits adds restriction on admins to set message retention policy.
We now only allow only organization owners to set message retention
policy.
Dropdown for changing retention policy is disabled in UI for admins also.

Regenerated by tabbott with `lint --fix` after a rebase and change in

Note from tabbott: In a few cases, this converts technical debt in the

our largest files having very long, ugly import sequences at the
start. I expect this change will increase pressure for us to split
those files, which isn't a bad thing.

This reimplements our Zoom video call integration to use an OAuth
application. In addition to providing a cleaner setup experience,

previous integration that it could only have one call active at a time
when set up with typical Zoom API keys.

mock is just a backport of the standard library’s unittest.mock now.
The SAMLAuthBackendTest change is needed because

This adds a new realm setting: default_code_block_language.
This PR also adds a new widget to specify a language, which
behaves somewhat differently from other widgets of the same
kind; instead of exposing methods to the whole module, we
just create a single IIFE that handles all the interactions
with the DOM for the widget.
We also move the code for remapping languages to format_code
function since we want to preserve the original language to
decide if we override it using default_code_clock_language.
Fixes#14404.
This is a prep commit for making use of same choices for
create_stream_policy and invite_to_stream_policy as both fields
have same set of choices.
This will be useful as we add other fields using these same types.
This commit replaces the WAITING _PERIOD with FULL_MEMBERS from
create_stream_policy and invite_to_stream_policy choices to
achieve consistency and making the variables more descriptive.
We try to use the correct variation of `email`
or `delivery_email`, even though in some
databases they are the same.
(To find the differences, I temporarily hacked
populate_db to use different values for email
and delivery_email, and reduced email visibility
in the zulip realm to admins only.)
In places where we want the "normal" realm
behavior of showing emails (and having `email`
be the same as `delivery_email`), we use
the new `reset_emails_in_zulip_realm` helper.
A couple random things:
- I fixed any error messages that were leaking
the wrong email
- a test that claimed to rely on the order
of emails no longer does (we sort user_ids
instead)
- we now use user_ids in some place where we used
to use emails
- for IRC mirrors I just punted and used
`reset_emails_in_zulip_realm` in most places
- for MIT-related tests, I didn't fix email
vs. delivery_email unless it was obvious
I also explicitly reset the realm to a "normal"
realm for a couple tests that I frankly just didn't
have the energy to debug. (Also, we do want some
coverage on the normal case, even though it is
"easier" for tests to pass if you mix up `email`
and `delivery_email`.)
In particular, I just reset data for the analytics
and corporate tests.
We now have this API...
If you really just need to log in
and not do anything with the actual
user:
self.login('hamlet')
If you're gonna use the user in the
rest of the test:
hamlet = self.example_user('hamlet')
self.login_user(hamlet)
If you are specifically testing
email/password logins (used only in 4 places):
self.login_by_email(email, password)
And for failures uses this (used twice):
self.assert_login_failure(email)
This reduces query counts in some cases, since
we no longer need to look up the user again. In
particular, it reduces some noise when we
count queries for O(N)-related tests.
The query count is usually reduced by 2 per
API call. We no longer need to look up Realm
and UserProfile. In most cases we are saving
these lookups for the whole tests, since we
usually already have the `user` objects for
other reasons. In a few places we are simply
moving where that query happens within the
test.
In some places I shorten names like `test_user`
or `user_profile` to just be `user`.
This refactors get_members_backend to return user data of a single
user in the form of a dictionary (earlier being a list with a single
dictionary).
This also refactors it to return the data with an appropriate key
(inside a dictionary), "user" or "members", according to the type of
data being returned.
Tweaked by tabbott to use somewhat less opaque code and simple OpenAPI
descriptions.
This commit mostly makes our tests less
noisy, since emails are no longer an important
detail of sending messages (they're not even
really used in the API).
It also sets us up to have more scrutiny
on delivery_email/email in the future
for things that actually matter. (This is
a prep commit for something along those
lines, kind of hard to explain the full
plan.)
This extends our email address visibility settings to deny access to
user email addresses even to organization administrators.
At the moment, they can of course change the setting (which leaves an
audit trail), but in the future only organization owners will be able
to change that setting.
While we're at this, we rewrite the settings_data.js test to cover all
the cases in a more consistent way.
