This commit updates the doc to rename the 'send_event' function
to 'send_ecent_on_commit'.
This is required as we no longer have the send_event function
and we prefer to use 'send_event_on_commit' in most cases and
'send_event_rollback_unsafe' in a few.
This lets us simplify the long-ish ‘../../static/js’ paths, and will
remove the need for the ‘zrequire’ wrapper.

Ever since we started bundling the app with webpack, there’s been less
and less overlap between our ‘static’ directory (files belonging to
the frontend app) and Django’s interpretation of the ‘static’
directory (files served directly to the web).
Split the app out to its own ‘web’ directory outside of ‘static’, and
remove all the custom collectstatic --ignore rules. This makes it
much clearer what’s actually being served to the web, and what’s being
bundled by webpack. It also shrinks the release tarball by 3%.

Previously, our docs had links to various versions of the Django docs,
eg https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.10/topics/migrations/ and
https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/2.0/ref/signals/#post-save, opening
a link to a doc with an outdated Django version would show a warning
"This document is for an insecure version of Django that is no longer
supported. Please upgrade to a newer release!".
This commit uses a search with the regex
"docs.djangoproject.com/en/([0-9].[0-9]*)/" and replaces all matches
inside the /docs/ folder with "docs.djangoproject.com/en/3.2/".
All the new links in this commit have been generated by the above
replace and each link has then been manually checked to ensure that
(1) the page still exists and has not been moved to a new location
(and it has been found that no page has been moved like this), (2)
that the anchor that we're linking to has not been changed (and it has
been found that this happened once, for https://docs.djangoproject.com
/en/1.8/ref/django-admin/#runserver-port-or-address-port, where
/#runserver-port-or-address-port was changed to /#runserver).
The "voyager" name is non-intuitive and not significant.
`zulip::voyager` and `zulip::dockervoyager` stubs are kept for
back-compatibility with existing `zulip.conf` files.
This moves the puppet configuration closer to the "roles and profiles
method"[1] which is suggested for organizing puppet classes. Notably,
here it makes clear which classes are meant to be able to stand alone
as deployments.
Shims are left behind at the previous names, for compatibility with
existing `zulip.conf` files when upgrading.

This commit is first of few commita which aim to change all the
bugdown references to markdown. This commits rename the files,
file path mentions and change the imports.
Variables and other references to bugdown will be renamed in susequent
commits.
We're migrating to using the cleaner zulip.com domain, which involves
changing all of our links from ReadTheDocs and other places to point
to the cleaner URL.
- Updated 260+ links from ".html" to ".md" to reduce the number of issues
reported about hyperlinks not working when viewing docs on Github.
- Removed temporary workaround that suppressed all warnings reported
by sphinx build for every link ending in ".html".
Details:
The recent upgrade to recommonmark==0.5.0 supports auto-converting
".md" links to ".html" so that the resulting HTML output is correct.
Notice that links pointing to a heading i.e. "../filename.html#heading",
were not updated because recommonmark does not auto-convert them.
These links do not generate build warnings and do not cause any issues.
However, there are about ~100 such links that might still get misreported
as broken links. This will be a follow-up issue.
Background:
docs: pip upgrade recommonmark and CommonMark #13013
docs: Allow .md links between doc pages #11719Fixes#11087.
As of commit cff40c557b (#9300), these
files are no longer served directly to the browser. Disentangle them
from the static asset pipeline so we can refactor it without worrying
about them.
This has the side effect of eliminating the accidental duplication of
translation data via hash-naming in our release tarballs.
This reverts commit b546391f0b (#1148).

Add references to TypeScript in documentation where appropriate, such
as in example bash commands and discussions of the file structure.
Add a new section to the Reading List with TypeScript resources.
Also update `.editorconfig` to support ".ts" files.
Fix part of #12000.
Sphinx/ReadTheDocs supports automatically translating links written as
to `.md` files to point to the corresponding `.html` files, so this
migration does not change the resulting HTML output in ReadTheDocs.
But it does fix apparent broken links on GitHub.
This doesn't prevent people from reading the documentation on GitHub
(so doesn't mitigate the fact that some rtd-specific syntax does not
render properly on GH), but it will prevent us from getting erroneous
issues reported about the hyperlinks not working.
Fixes: #11087.
I only renamed references that I thought were absolutely necessary
and only if the resulting sentence structure wasn't awkward.
If the renaming resulted in awkward structure, I replaced the term
"webhook" with "integration" (but only in some very obvious cases).
Fixes#9500.
This should make it easier to find the templates that are actually
part of the core webapp, instead of having them all mixed together
with the portico pages.
This commit helps reduce clutter on the navigation sidebar.
Creates new directories and moves relevant files into them.
Modifies index.rst, symlinks, and image paths accordingly.
This commit also enables expandable/collapsible navigation items,
renames files in docs/development and docs/production,
modifies /tools/test-documentation so that it overrides a theme setting,
Also updates links to other docs, file paths in the codebase that point
to developer documents, and files that should be excluded from lint tests.
Note that this commit does not update direct links to
zulip.readthedocs.io in the codebase; those will be resolved in an
upcoming follow-up commit (it'll be easier to verify all the links
once this is merged and ReadTheDocs is updated).
Fixes#5265.
