To make creation of demo organizations feel lightweight for users,
we do not want to require an email address at sign-up. Instead an
empty string will used for the new realm owner's email. Currently
implements that for new demo organizations in the development
environment.
Because the user's email address does not exist, we don't enqueue
any of the welcome emails upon account/realm creation, and we
don't create/send new login emails.
This is a part of #19523.

The "followup_day2" email template name is not clear or descriptive
about the purpose of the email. Creates a duplicate of those email
template files with the template name "zulip_onboarding_topics".
Because any existing scheduled emails that use the "followup_day2"
templates will need to be updated before the current templates can
be removed, we don't do a simple file rename here.

about the purpose of the email. Creates a duplicate of those email
template files with the template name "account_registered".

We no longer have to reason about the 12 possible
ways of invoking get_narrow_url. We also avoid
double computation in a couple places.
Finally, we get stricter type checks by just inlining
the calls.
This commit removes the stray strings used to refer to
various types of notification triggers.
We use the attributes of the 'NotificationTriggers' class instead.
This commit completes the notifications part of the @topic
wildcard mention feature.
Notifications are sent to the topic participants for the
@topic wildcard mention.
The MissedMessage queue worker is the single callsite of
`handle_missedmessage_emails`, which immediately transforms the list
of events into a dict keyed by message-id.
Skip the intermediate list step, and use defaultdict and a dataclass
to simplify and make explicit the pieces. This removes the unused
user_profile_id and message_id pieces of the data structure.
The initial followup_day1 email confirms that the new user account
has been successfully created and should be sent to the user
independently of an organization's setting for send_welcome_emails.
Here we separate out the followup_day1 email into a separate function
from enqueue_welcome_emails and create a helper function for setting
the shared welcome email sender information.
The followup_day1 email is still a scheduled email so that the initial
account creation and log-in process for the user remains unchanged.

This prep commit replaces the 'wildcard' keyword in the codebase
with 'stream_wildcard' at some places for better readability, as
we plan to introduce 'topic_wildcards' as a part of the
'@topic mention' project.
Currently, 'wildcards = ["all", "everyone", "stream"]' which is an
alias to mention everyone in the stream, hence better renamed as
'stream_wildcards'.
Eventually, we will have:
'stream_wildcard' as an alias to mention everyone in the stream.
'topic_wildcard' as an alias to mention everyone in the topic.
'wildcard' refers to 'stream_wildcard' and 'topic_wildcard' as a whole.
This commit fixes the incorrect calculation of the
'senders' list.
The effect of 'followed_topic_wildcard_mention'
wasn't considered earlier.
The bug was introduced in b052c8980e.
This commit uses 'NotificationTriggers' class attributes
instead of directly using loose strings.
This should have been ideally included in the commit

This commit makes it possible for users to control the wildcard
mention notifications for messages sent to followed topics
via a global notification setting.
There is no support for configuring this setting
through the UI yet.

the implementation of email notifications.
Separates the context dictionary that is used for `send_email` for
the `followup_day1` and `followup_day2` emails.

Adds a new welcome email, `onboarding_zulip_guide`, to be sent four
days after a new user registers with a Zulip organization if the
organization has specified a particular organization type that has
a guide in the corporate `/for/.../` pages. If there is no guide,
then no email is scheduled or sent.
The current `for/communities/` page is not very useful for users
who are not organization administrators, so these onboarding guide
emails are further restricted for those organization types to
only go to new users who are invited/registered as admins for the
organzation.
Adds two database queries for new user registrations: one to get
the organization's type and one to create the scheduled email.
Adds two email logs because the email is sent both to a new user
who registers with an existing organization and to the organization
owner when they register a new organization.

Currently, there is a checkbox setting for whether to
"Include realm name in subject of message notification emails".
This commit replaces the checkbox setting with a dropdown
having values: Automatic [default], Always, Never.
The Automatic option includes the realm name if, and only if,
there are multiple Zulip realms associated with the user's email.
Tests are added and(or) modified.
Fixes: #19905.
In Zulip, message topics are case-insensitive but case-preserving.
The `get_context_for_message` function erroneously did a
case-sensitive search, and thus only messages whose topic matched
exactly were pulled in as context.
Make the missed-message pipeline aware that message topics are not
case-sensitive. This means that, when collapsing adjacent messages,
we merge messages with topic headers which are "different"; create a
separate explicit "grouping" to know which to collapse.
- Clean up the language.
- Add a prominent "Go to organization" button.
- Link to guides for new users and admins.
- Fix duplication bug in text email version.

Some email clients (notably, Gmail Web) support automatically threading
emails together if recipients and subjects match[1]. Manual testing
indicated that prefixing a subject with "[bracketed content]" does not
break this threading behavior, but the added checkmark in a resolved
topic's title does. Before sending an email notification, determine
whether the topic is resolved, and pass this information to the Jinja
template to properly format a threadable email subject.
Fixes: #22538
[1]: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/5900
Previously, stream names and topics (without consideration for their
resolution status) were concatenated in Python-land and passed through
to the template. To more cleanly separate concerns, and to prepare for
accounting for topic resolution status being a third, independent,
component of a subject line, instead pass stream and topic strings
independently to the Jinja template, which can format them as it sees
fit.
We add quote prefix ">" to each line of the message in the plain text
missed message emails, which are then rendered as quotes by email
clients. We also move the message content in the next line after sender.
This helps us in clearly showing the message authors in missed message
emails especially in emails with multiple messages and senders.

This ValueError had no test coverage, because the code path wasn't
actually possible with how the caller is constructed.

This commit renames get_user_group_direct_members function to
get_user_group_direct_member_ids as it returns a list of ids
and to avoid it being parallel to get_recursive_group_members,
which returns a QuerySet.
Stop using `access_user_group_by_id` in notifications codepaths, as it
is meant to be used to check for _write_ access, not read
access (which is not limited). In the notification codepaths, there
are no ACLs to apply, and the ID is known-good; just load it
directly. The `for_mention` flag is removed, as it was not used in the
mention codepaths at all, only the notification ones.
This replaces the temporary (and testless) fix in
24b1439e93 with a more permanent
fix.
Instead of checking if the user is a bot just before
sending the notifications, we now just don't enqueue
notifications for bots. This is done by sending a list
of bot IDs to the event_queue code, just like other
lists which are used for creating NotificationData objects.

fe25517295 adjusted the email_notifications codepath to use
`lxml.html.fragment_fromstring` method when parsing
`rendered_content`, but left the tests using a helper which called
`fromstring`.
Switching the tests to match the code as run reveals a bug -- using
`drop_tree` on all `message_inline_image` classes now _does_ remove
all of a top-level image-URL-only message. Previously, such messages
were "safe" from the block that calls `drop_tree` only by dint of
`drop_tree` being a silent no-op for the root element. When parsed
using `fragment_fromstring`, they are no longer the root, and as such
an empty message results.
Reorder relative_to_full_url to check for only one `message_inline_image`
within the top `<div>`, and only run the `drop_tree` path in the
alternate case. Tests must be adjusted for their output now including
one more layer of `<div>`.
de04f0ad67 changed now notifications recipients were calculated, in
a manner that caused them to be sent when they should not have been.
ac70a2d2e1 was supposed to resolve this, but appears to have been
insufficient, as all three of these cases have been observed to still
happen.
Add safety checks immediately before notification, until the
underlying logic error can be sussed out.
The transforms called from `build_message_payload` use
`lxml.html.fromstring` to parse (and stringify, and re-parse) the HTML
generated by Markdown. However, this function fails if it is passed
an empty document. "empty" is broader than just the empty string; it
also includes any document made entirely out of control characters,
spaces, unpaired surrogates, U+FFFE, or U+FFFF, and so forth. These
documents would fail to parse, and raise a ParserError.
Using `lxml.html.fragment_fromstring` handles these cases, but does by
wrapping the contents in a <div> every time it is called. As such,
replacing each `fromstring` with `fragment_fromstring` would nest
another layer of `<div>`.
Instead of each of the helper functions re-parsing, modifying, and
stringifying the HTML, parse it once with `fragment_fromstring` and
pass around the parsed document to each helper, which modifies it
in-place. This adds one outer `<div>`, requiring minor changes to
tests and the prepend-sender functions.
The modification to add the sender is left using BeautifulSoup, as
that sort of transform is much less readable, and more fiddly, in raw
lxml.
Partial fix for #19559.
We do not allow any user to edit the system user groups (including
renaming, deleting, adding or removing members, etc.) from the
API. These user groups will change only by the code when a new
user is added or role of a user is changed.
This is implemented by rejecting access_user_group_by_id always
except the case when it is use to get the user group for sending
email and push notifications, as we would need to send notifications
to the mentioned user group.
