evykassirer 45a81650f4 compose: Add option to not restore drafts, to avoid overwriting.
This could happen e.g. when quote-replying a message,
because we open the composebox before adding the quote
reply content. We need to make sure that we don't restore
a draft when opening the composebox, because otherwise
that draft will be replaced with the quote reply.

Sayam Samal 24e5004a54 compose_tooltips: Rename "non-stream" to "non-specific" type/view.
We want to name types/views that are not Stream or Direct related to be
"non-specific". The previously used term "non-stream" could be confusing
since it would literally mean any type/view which is not a stream type/
view, which would encapsulate the Direct type/view also.

Thus, we finally use the following terms to describe the type of
conversation:
1. Stream type (Streams or Topics)
2. Direct type (A)
3. Non specific type (Inbox, Recent conversation, All messages)

Sayam Samal a0411e32b6 compose_tooltips: Fix tooltips for disabled conversation button.
In the situation where the DMs are disabled in an organization, we
disable the new conversation button. But due to this, the tooltip
hinting towards the same, was also being disabled because it was
attached to a disabled element which does not fire any events.

This commit fixes this bug, by wrapping the new conversation button
inside a div, and attaching the tooltip to this wrapper instead.

Sayam Samal f00d79399e compose_tooltips: Change new conversation button tooltip logic.
As reported on CZO, the new conversation button sometimes had stale
tooltip content rendered on it. In this commit, we change the logic
used to render this tooltip, to now render the tooltip content on the
fly via `instance.setContent()` which should eliminate any such bug.

Fixes #27158.

Karl Stolley 2fac5fb08c compose: Hide New direct message button in DM views.
This avoids the situation where the contextually aware
Start new conversation button duplicates the functionality of the
dedicated New direct message button.

Additionally, it gives a sense of what the UI would be like if
only the Start new conversation button were displayed.

evykassirer 846b470b99 messages: Use stream_id instead of stream name.
This should cause no functional changes.

This is part of a multi-step effort to move away
from using stream names to reference streams, now
that it's impossible for a user to write a message
with an invalid stream name (since switching to
the dropdown).

Tim Abbott 804f473214 message_list: Extract visibly_empty helper method.
This function will allow us to adjust the codebase to write what it
means semantically -- whether a check is for the message list being
visibly empty, or completely empty.

In this commit, we leave the .empty() method incorrect, because
several other adjustments need to be made atomically with fixing it.

palashb01 047bffe257 compose_box: Convert dynamic closed compose box tooltips to tippyjs.
This commit converts the dynamic closed_compose_box
tooltip to template-based tippy.js tooltips. The functions in
the compose_closed_ui.js file are refactored to dynamically change
the 'data-tooltip-template-id' attribute according to the situation.

The title parameter is removed from the functions in
compose_closed_ui.js so that we can change the tooltip within the
caller functions themselves, according to the situation. Since there
is no way to match the title in existing functions with different
languages to change the tooltip attribute dynamically, it is better
to change the tooltip attribute within the caller function according
to the situation, rather than passing the title as a parameter.

In the case of the reply button, we disable it when direct messages
are not allowed. However, tippy.js tooltips do not appear in the
case of disabled elements, so we have to use the container element
around it to show the tooltip. This approach is used in the case of
the reply button, where the span element wraps the button.

We used to have two titles for the reply button: one is the usual
'Reply to selected message', and the other is for the disabled state.
However, in the case of recent conversations, it makes more sense
to have a new tooltip title: 'Reply to selected conversation'.

To ensure that the tooltip content changes dynamically, it is
required to destroy the tooltip instance and then reinitialize it
every time.

N-Shar-ma 4e2931cefd compose: Disable "Message X" button for DMs when DMs are not allowed.
When in a private narrow, the "Message X" button is disabled if direct
messages are not allowed in the organisation and the current recipient
is not a bot.

Note that when the recipient is a user group with 1, more or all bots,
the button is disabled then too as such PMs are not allowed. Only when
the recipient is a single bot, then it's not disabled, as DMs with one
bot are allowed even in organisations where DMs are disabled.

Lauryn Menard 42775219b3 private-messages: Update frontend strings to use "direct message" or "DM".
Updates frontend user-facing strings with "private message" or "PM" to
use "direct message" or "DM" respectively instead.

Note that this updates translated strings as well as a few that
are not translated like search suggestions.

Updates `tools/lib/capitalization.py` for some specific strings
that are impacted by these changes, and removes "PM" and "PMs"
from checked strings.

Anders Kaseorg c1675913a2 web: Move web app to ‘web’ directory.
Ever since we started bundling the app with webpack, there’s been less
and less overlap between our ‘static’ directory (files belonging to
the frontend app) and Django’s interpretation of the ‘static’
directory (files served directly to the web).

Split the app out to its own ‘web’ directory outside of ‘static’, and
remove all the custom collectstatic --ignore rules. This makes it
much clearer what’s actually being served to the web, and what’s being
bundled by webpack. It also shrinks the release tarball by 3%.
