We directly check if message feed is visible in the code instead
of indirectly checking so via recent topics. This helps read the
code clearly and would be helpful with the upcoming inbox view.
Previously notifications.clear_compose_notifications was used accross
the codebase. Since introducing the new
compose_banner.clear_message_sent_banners function, the two functions
are similar enough that we can just use clear_message_sent_banners
everywhere. This commit also moves scroll_to_message_banner_message_id
to compose_banner.
The banner telling the user to scroll down to the message previously
didn't disappear when the user scrolled past it manually, which is
not ideal.
Keep track of which message is associated with this notification,
and clear the banner when the message scrolls above the bottom of
the viewport.
We didn't use to control how `active` class is set on
`#message_feed_container`. It was done by bootstrap on its own
and it doesn't even matter if `message_feed_container` is visible
for it to have `active` class according to bootstrap. So, we only
run `scroll_finished` when recent topics is not visible which
seems logical.
We are abandoning jQuery animation because it build up queue
when there is continous switch in animation state.
i.e When user goes ↑↓↑↓↑↓… at the bottom.
Also added `aria-hidden` to `#scroll-to-bottom-button-container` so
that this widget doesn't interfere with screen readers.
We use `fadeOut` effect to hide the scroll to bottom button more
widely. We already use `fadeIn` effect to display the button
every time.
We deliberately don't use the `fadeOut` effect when doing
`make_compose_box_full_size` to avoid any button overlap with
compose for a short time.
Notifies user when messages are not being marked as read through a
banner that lets them mark all messages in the narrow as read. Note
that the banner is only displayed if the user's actions, like
scrolling, would've actually marked the messages as read.
This avoids distracting the user when viewing a thread they've already
read.
tabbott has verified that if new messages come in, the banner will reappear.
Fixes: #18768.
Show/hide scroll to bottom button when the last message is
not visible in the current scroll position.
We adjust the bottom offset of the button based on compose box

We directly pass operators to remove dependency on narrow_state
module. This avoids a circular dependency of `filter` module
which is evident on the `/devtools/integrations/` page.
We split recent_topics module into recent_topics_(ui + data + util).
This allows us to reduce cyclical dependencies which were
created due to large list of imports in recent topics. Also, this
refactor on its own makes sense.
This is a mostly verbatim extraction.
I re-phrased one line of code to work around a lint
false alarm. (Look for `preamble` in the diff.)
There are about 8 lines missing coverage here, so
the new module might be a good candidate to get
100% line coverage on.
Before this change, you would need to remove 74
edges from our dependency graph to make it
acyclic. Now it's 72.
Recent Topics is no longer an overlay now, but note that it is
also not a typical messages narrow. It can reside between
an overlay and a Filter in the sense that it is dispalyed as
a typical Filter narrow but has properties of an Overlay.
Compose box is not visible in this view as it will be confusing
to many users and hence compose shortcuts have also been disabled.
Keyboard shortcuts that apply on messages have also been disabled.
The remaining shortcuts that apply to a narrow are still accessible
here.
ES and TypeScript modules are strict by default and don’t need this
directive. ESLint will remind us to add it to new CommonJS files and
remove it from ES and TypeScript modules.

This improves the logic and fixes the bug where the href was calculated
based on the current URL and not the filter of the current message list.
We now add the '/streams/public/' operator at the start of the operators,
similar to how it is represented in all other cases.

This is clearly a better home for it, since message_scroll.js is the
only place that reads it, and also lets us provide a clearer name for
the functionality.
This was broken when moving the code being called to another file.
This exception caused a pretty weird/nasty bug by interrupting the
message_fetch response handler before it finished updating the
fetch_status data strutures. The end result was that in views where
the "history limited notice" was displayed, local echo would be broken
a confusing notice would be displayed.
We refactor these 2 notices to match with the loading indicators,
thus they have been moved to `message_scroll.js`.
After a successful message fetch, we have logic to decide whether
we want to display the notices and also whether we want to hide
the loading indicators (which are already displayed).
We also conservatively hide the notices similar to the indicators
every time we narrow.
The only exception is that we show the history limit notice on
deactivating the narrow (visiting `home_msg_list`).
This commit makes the `loading_older_messages_indicator` similar
to the `loading_newer_messages_indicator`.
Now all the decisions about whether to show a loading indicator
will be made from the `fetch_status` API. We still hide the
indicators everytime the view is changed, as explained in the
previous commit.
As explained in 67053ff479,
multiple message fetches may be taking place at the same time.
So some other narrows / the home message list's indicator might
get shown for the current narrow.
This commit moves the updation of the indicators display logic
to the `fetch_status` API.
Now the `loading_newer_messages_indicator` gets displayed along
with the `loading_newer` = true updation for that narrow's message
list, i.e. just before we send the API request. But only if the
message list we are fetching matches with our current message list.
The same indicator is hidden similarly, along with the
`loading_older` = false updation for that narrow's message list,
i.e. just after the success response is recieved. But only if
the message list whose data we recieved matches with our current
message list.
Also the indicators are hidden everytime we activate narrow
or deactivate narrow (`home_msg_list`). And on entering
`narrow.activate` we fetch for it's messages so they get
displayed again, if need be.
This is the reason `message_scroll.hide_indicators();` was
moved to a location above `fetch_messages`.
Fixes#15374.
We already have a loading indicator for fetching older
messages. Thus it makes sense to implement the same
for displaying newer messages.
We set the display of `bottom-messages-logo` to none,
to prevent displaying two loading indicators during
the initial message load.
Fixes#15060.
`loading_more_messages_indicator` is renamed to
`loading_older_messages_indicator`.
This is a prep commit to introduce
`loading_newer_messages_indicator`.
This commit was originally automatically generated using `tools/lint
--only=eslint --fix`. It was then modified by tabbott to contain only
changes to a set of files that are unlikely to result in significant
merge conflicts with any open pull request, excluding about 20 files.
His plan is to merge the remaining changes with more precise care,
potentially involving merging parts of conflicting pull requests
before running the `eslint --fix` operation.

With webpack, variables declared in each file are already file-local
(Global variables need to be explicitly exported), so these IIFEs are
no longer needed.
