Anders Kaseorg 6ec808b8df js: Add "use strict" directive to CommonJS files.
ES and TypeScript modules are strict by default and don’t need this
directive. ESLint will remind us to add it to new CommonJS files and
remove it from ES and TypeScript modules.

Aman Agrawal 08701d0287 recent_topics: Add support for vim keys.
User can now user `j`, `k`, `l`, `h` keys to navigate along
with arrow keys, which is inline with our message navigation
hotkeys.

Aman Agrawal 8b29c38e62 info_overlay: Make them overlays from quasi-overlays.
We always use hashchange.go_to_location method now to open the
info_overlay, this makes sure that the url hash are reliable and
hotkeys don't get confused if an overlay is open or not.

We don't want to change hash to "" (this also doesn't navigates
us to 'All messages' view, hence the bug was not noticed.) on
exit of info_overlay.

Steve Howell 0eb206f97e mobile sharing: Make emoji.js a shared ES6 module.
This is a pretty straightforward conversion.

The bulk of the diff is just changing emoji.js
to ES6 syntax.

There is one little todo that can be deferred
to the next commit--we are now set up to have
markdown.js require emoji.js directly, since
it is no longer on `window`.

Steve Howell 92ed76e3c1 emoji refactor: Pass in emoji_codes from ui_init.
We don't want emoji.js to depend on a JSON file
(and specifically the location of said JSON file)
when we start sharing our code with mobile.

Steve Howell b8b2e31463 zjsunit: Require explicit set_global for overrides.
This forces us to more explicitly document at the
top of the file what dependencies we are stubbing,
plus it's less magical.

Also, we may want to do occasional audits of
set_global to clean up places where we mock
things like stream_data, which are probably just
easier to use the real version of now that we
have cleaner APIs to set up stream data.

The modules most affected by this change are our
dispatch-oriented tests--basically, all the
modules that test handling of Zulip events
plus hotkey.js.

Anders Kaseorg e257253e64 emoji_codes: Replace JS module with JSON module.
webpack optimizes JSON modules using JSON.parse("{…}"), which is
faster than the normal JavaScript parser.

Anders Kaseorg 28f3dfa284 js: Automatically convert var to let and const in most files.
This commit was originally automatically generated using `tools/lint
--only=eslint --fix`. It was then modified by tabbott to contain only
changes to a set of files that are unlikely to result in significant
merge conflicts with any open pull request, excluding about 20 files.
His plan is to merge the remaining changes with more precise care,
potentially involving merging parts of conflicting pull requests
before running the `eslint --fix` operation.

Steve Howell 43f25eb4a5 Clean up code to open "Create stream" panel.
This fixes a bug where hitting the "n" hotkey was
causing double work related to the hashchange system.

The code is now organized like this:

    do_open_create_stream() does the GUI piece

We call the above directly for hash changes.

For in-app actions, whether clicks or hotkeys,
    we call open_create_stream(), which delegates
most of the work to do_open_create_stream() but
    also updates the hash.

Outside of lightbox.js, we now use modals.lightbox_open() to
detect that the lightbox modal is open.

Steve Howell 5c52495b64 Use modals.settings_open().
We now uses modals.settings_open() to check for the settings
modal being open, rather than doing a regex check on
windows.location.hash.

Steve Howell 742c55f514 Speed up key handling by adding modals.is_active().
The function modals.is_active() can see if modals are open
without having to look at the DOM. This should make it snappier
to type in the compose box. Even if the speedup is pretty minor,
not having to worry about jQuery slowness should make it easier
to diagnose future compose box issues.

The new function gets used in other places, too, where performance
isn't so much an issue.

This moves respond_to_mention() and reply_with_mention() to

Steve Howell e2a21303eb hotkeys: Simplify up/down handling for stream settings.
We've had this kind of hacky setting called message_view_only for
a long time in the hotkeys code, and it originally helped optimize
the code a bit. It wasn't well maintained, and people started
adding non-message-view behavior to the arrow keys without flipping
that flag to false. This change finally flips the flag to false,
which simplifies some of our logic.

Steve Howell 4a3211d6af hotkeys: Clean up dispatching of drafts hotkeys.
We now explicitly return true from process_hotkey() when we
handle up/down/backspace for the drafts modal. Also, we no longer
call preventDefault() from drafts.draft_handle_events(), since the
caller does that, and we no longer return `true`, since we were
never inspecting the return value anyway.

Steve Howell 2ef9957cbc hotkeys: Handle up/down arrows in settings page.
The up/down arrows now navigate the left pane of the settings menu.
The code here was originally implemented as part of our settings
redesign, but the code was added in a place that became unreachable
after we fixed a bug with home_tab_obscured(). This commit
resurrects the code and places the guts of it in settings.js. It
is possible that we want to clean this code up eventually to deal
better with hidden blocks.

Steve Howell 4bbd73a9a2 Extract list_util.js for navigating lists.
The code here used to live in hotkey.js. Its complicated calling
protocol made it difficult to unit test. We are also trying to
slim down hotkey.js.

Our arrow navigation for things like `#stream_filters` has always
been kind of awkward, since it's difficult to get the focus to
their list items. This commit does nothing to fix that yet.
