Prettier would do this anyway, but it’s separated out for a more
reviewable diff. Generated by ESLint.

This commit was originally automatically generated using `tools/lint
--only=eslint --fix`. It was then modified by tabbott to contain only
changes to a set of files that are unlikely to result in significant
merge conflicts with any open pull request, excluding about 20 files.
His plan is to merge the remaining changes with more precise care,
potentially involving merging parts of conflicting pull requests
before running the `eslint --fix` operation.

With webpack, variables declared in each file are already file-local
(Global variables need to be explicitly exported), so these IIFEs are
no longer needed.

This adds date dividers within a single message group when the only
reason we had previously been splitting apart two message groups is a
change of date. The overall effect is a cleaner message list user
experience.
The downside of this change would be that the recipient bars no longer
will always show a new date for date changes; to fix that, we rewrite
how the floating recipient bars both set the date field on the
floating recipient bar itself, as well as ensure that non-floating
recipient bars don't show duplicate dates.
In a future design update where we modify how message recipient bars
look, we may very well be able to simplify this logic by removing some
of the dynamic nature of the recipient bar calculations. But this is
a good implementation of what remains.
Tweaked significantly by tabbott from Steve Howell's original, both to
extract these changes from a larger PR as well as to modify the
first_visible_message logic to handle some tricky corner cases.
Fixes#10171.
I use shorter var names in frb_botom() and do early
return in obscured_recipient_bar().
Also, we always call exports.hide() if we don't find
a valid recipient bar to "float."
This commit prepares the frontend code to be consumed by webpack.
It is a hack: In theory, modules should be declaring and importing the
modules they depend on and the globals they expose directly.
However, that requires significant per-module work, which we don't
really want to block moving our toolchain to webpack on.
So we expose the modules by setting window.varName = varName; as
needed in the js files.
This is an issue where in jQuery v3 the result of outerHeight on a node
that doesn’t exist is now “undefined” rather than “null”, which means
it will no longer cast to a Number but rather NaN. For this, we create
the safeOuterHeight and safeOuterWidth functions to safely return a
result (or 0).
This is a better solution than manually going to each instance and
ORing it with 0 for type safety.

Force display of the top-most recipient_bar's recipient_row_date
when the floating_recipient_bar is just about to overlap and
becomes hidden while user is scrolling.
Fixes#4844.
We now have specific HTML/CSS classes for message fading and
user fading. They currently both have the same effect, changing
opacity, but we can now more easily treat them differently.
This change also removes "faded" attributes in compose-fade,
which avoids some confusion related to landing pages having
a "faded" class as well.
