This commit was originally automatically generated using `tools/lint
--only=eslint --fix`. It was then modified by tabbott to contain only
changes to a set of files that are unlikely to result in significant
merge conflicts with any open pull request, excluding about 20 files.
His plan is to merge the remaining changes with more precise care,
potentially involving merging parts of conflicting pull requests
before running the `eslint --fix` operation.

With webpack, variables declared in each file are already file-local
(Global variables need to be explicitly exported), so these IIFEs are
no longer needed.

When a user toggles a setting back to its original value without
saving, we automatically hide the save/discard widget, since
effectively the user has discarded their changes.
The logic has previously incorrectly configured this as returning to
the "saved" state, not the "discarded" state, which caused an
unintentional delay before the widget disappeared (by accidentally
running code that was designed for the save -> saved transition).
While doing this I have fixed a very minor bug that we haven't sent
fadeout_delay argument as 0, but having its value as undefined still
defaults to 0 so there will no impact of this change.
Fixes: #12258.
With the help of `check_property_changed` function now we collect the data
whose values are changed from the current one. Currently this optimizes
only for those elements whose values are collected by
`populate_data_for_request` function i.e. it doesn't optimize data
collected by `get_complete_data_for_subsection`.
This is preliminary commit which moves `populate_data_for_request` function
down after the definition of all functions with which it will interact in
the future.
This is a preliminary commit which refactors `populate_data_for_request`
function, now this function traverse on all "property elements" of a given
subsection, but get the data only of those properties which have
`setting-widget-type` data attribute. Therefore, it doesn't change the
functionality of this function and overall changes don't make any
difference. In upcoming commits, we're going to use `input_elem` as an
argument to `check_property_changed` function, so that only those elements
whose values are changed are sent to the backend.
This moves `get_subsection_property_elements` out from the local context of
`settings_org.build_page` function, as it was unnecessarily initialized at
the time of page setup.
Using the page_param variable "plan_includes_wide_organization_logo"
disallow users in a realm with a "LIMITED" plan type from uploading
their own wide organization logos and instead suggest that they
upgrade their plan using the page_param variable
"upgrade_text_for_wide_organization_logo" for the suggestion message.
Backend validation for this feature already exists.
Also, options are now ordered from most restrictive to least restrictive.
A standard style here will be easier to understand and maintain as we add
more settings here.
This commit separates the `waiting_period_threshold` setting from
the `create_stream_policy` setting, adding a new setting that the user
can use to select a waiting period threshold.
Both the invite to stream policy and create stream policy now have
three options: admins only, members and admins, or members after
waiting period/admins.
The value in the handlebars template for `invite_to_stream_policy`
is inconsistent with the value in the js file. Changing all three
occurances to a third value, since that's the one we'll want moving
forward.

In email hidden case (that is when `email_address_visibilty` is set to
everyone), for "non admins", this commit hides emails from:
- user popover
- custom profile popover
In email hidden case, for admins, email is shown in both user popovers and
custom profile popovers.
Along with this, we refactored settings_org.populate_auth_methods to use
HTML function after rendering all auth methods rows rather than appending
each row individually, which actually is a good practice.
Also in this commit, to compare `current_val` and `changed_val` in
`check_property_changed` function of the property
`realm_authentication_methods`, which are objects, and we found here
https://stackoverflow.com/a/1144249 that there is no easy way to do so. So
I followed this approach,

but before converting them to string we want the same order of keys, so we
used `sort_object_by_key` to sort `current_val` by keys and
`get_auth_method_table_data` always return `changed_val` having keys
sorted.

Actually, this is a preliminary commit which adds a general
`sort_obj_by_key` function to sort objects according to keys.
In this commit, we have refactored `populate_auth_methods` function by
extracting the logic for the desired `sort_obj_by_key` and used that to
sort `auth_methods`, but the main motive of this function is to sort
`realm_authentication_methods` in `check_property_changed` to sort
`current_val` in the upcoming commit.
With perfectScrollbar, we needed to call a function from JavaScript to
enable a scrollbar on a new element, but simplebar has a much simpler
default API one can do by using data-simplebar attributes in the HTML.
So we can delete all the scrollbar creation/deletion code.

This commit renames the `create_stream_permission` field in the
templates to `create_stream_policy`, matching the field used in the
database model. This matches what `invite_to_stream_policy` does and
will be clearer when the `waiting_period_threshold` is split into its
own field.
This commit replaces the `create_stream_by_admins_only` setting with a
new `create_stream_policy` setting, which mirroring the structure of
the existing `invite_to_stream_policy`.
This is important preparation for migrating the waiting period feature
to be its own independent setting.

This commit creates a new organization setting that determines whether
a user can invite other users to streams. Previously this was linked
to the waiting period threshold, but this was both not documented and
overly limiting.
With significant tweaks by tabbott to change the database model to not
involve two threshhold fields, edit the tests, etc.
This requires follow-up work to make the create stream policy setting
work how this code implies it should.
Fixes#12042.
This commit adds a `insert_tip_box` function and thus adds a
`organization-settings-tip` handlebars file to add a genaralised tip for
all organization settings pages. This further removes the code for tipbox
which was added in `populate_auth_methods` functions, as it wasn't making
sense there, making it more clear and readable.
This commit adds a class prop-element for all the property elements, so
that later on we can directly use this to access elements.
In `get_subsection_property_elements`, we were finding these elements using
a makeshift method, where we were finding all these elements by mentioning
all input elements, textarea, select elements, which is not a desirable
method.
So now, here in `get_subsection_property_elements` function, we are finding
these properties using the newly added class `prop-element` which makes
code more clear and readable.
In handlebars and settings_org.js, the subsection in which
`realm_message_retention_days` property lies doesn't agree, and this wasn't
observed for a long time as it's disabled, still to make things right, in
this commit we have moved the logic which handles the collection of data
from `other_permission` to `other_settings` as it makes more sense there.
This renames references to user avatars, bot avatars, or organization
icons to profile pictures. The string in the UI are updated,
in addition to the help files, comments, and documentation. Actual
variable/function names, changelog entries, routes, and s3 buckets are
left as-is in order to avoid introducing bugs.

As a follow up of commit (bf1c9420df), this
commit removes the `build_realm_day_mode_logo_widget` and
`build_realm_night_mode_logo_widget` function , and changes
`build_realm_logo_widget` to take single argument `is_night` and depending
on this argument, corresponding `day mode` or `night_mode` widget is
handled.
This moves the configuration of widget type from settings_org to instead
live in respective HTML templates, via `data-widget-setting-type` and we
also remove `get_subsection_property_types` and refactor function
`populate_data_for_request` accordingly.
Fixes: #11708.
This fixes the bug where the `Saved` state button faded out almost
instantly (that is actually 300 ms) and `Discard` button fades out
along with `Saved` state button; the key problem here was that the
setTimeout intended to fade was actually delaying the transition from
"saving" to "saved".
Now, first of all, we use `setTimeOut` function to fadeout elements giving
fadeout_delay time as `800 ms` and we hide discard button during `saving`
state. Also, when `Discard` button is selected, `Save changes` and `Dicard`
fade out simultaneously.

This commit deduplicates the code for `build_realm_logo_widget` and
`build_realm_night_logo_widget`. It deduplicates the common code for
`build_realm_day_mode_logo_widget` & `build_realm_night_mode_logo_widget`
into tthe function `build_realm_logo_widget`.
This adds a setting under "Notification" section of
"Organization settings" tab, which enables Organization administrator to
control whether the missed message emails include the message content or
not.
Fixes: #11123.
In between releases, the following commit introduced
a bug where we agressively scroll to the top every
place we call `ui.update_scrollbar`:

The main symptoms were that the left and right sidebars
would go to the top for things like selecting a topic,
getting activity updates from the server, and resizing
the window. It was very jarring.
The recent commit looked innocuous--the root of the problem
was the original API expressed an intent to scroll to the
top, but didn't actually do it, so it was a bug in hiding.
There are **some** occasions where it's actually appropriate
to scroll to the top, mostly around search filtering, and
in those places we now call the new `ui.reset_scrollbar`
function.
This is a bit of an emergency fix, so particularly with
the settings stuff, we may get more reports of glitches here.
The important thing here is that you almost never want to
reset the scrollTop for sidebars.
This adds a new realm_logo field, which is a horizontal-format logo to
be displayed in the top-left corner of the webapp, and any other
places where we might want a wide-format branding of the organization.
Tweaked significantly by tabbott to rebase, fix styling, etc.
Fixing the styling of this feature's loading indicator caused me to
notice the loading indicator for the realm_icon feature was also ugly,
so I fixed that too.
Fixes#7995.
Apparently, we didn't have one of these, and thus had a moderate
number of generally very old violations in the codebase. Fix this and
clear the ones that exist..
We now rely on set_up() methods to call their
own module-specific versions of maybe_disable_widgets()
in the codepath for admin_sections.load_admin_section().
And then for live updates, we just explicitly call
all four modules that support maybe_disable_widgets().
This should make switching between sections slightly faster,
and it also reduces the risk of module A messing with
module B's state. (Granted, we have lots of other ways
that modules can mess with each other's state.)
This new setting is still hidden in the UI when not in the development
environment, because the feature isn't ready for production, but
merging this will help simplify future work on the feature.
In commit c293bb82c4 we changed
id_realm_invite_by_admins_only and realm_invite_required checkboxes to a
single dropdown so these lines are redundant now.
This renames Realm.restricted_to_domain field to
emails_restricted_to_domains, for greater clarity as to what it does
just from seeing the setting name, without having to look it up.
Fixes part of #10042.
This commit prepares the frontend code to be consumed by webpack.
It is a hack: In theory, modules should be declaring and importing the
modules they depend on and the globals they expose directly.
However, that requires significant per-module work, which we don't
really want to block moving our toolchain to webpack on.
So we expose the modules by setting window.varName = varName; as
needed in the js files.
This is preparation for enabling an eslint indentation configuration.
90% of these changes are just fixes for indentation errors that have
snuck into the codebase over the years; the others are more
significant reformatting to make eslint happy (that are not otherwise
actually improvements).
The one area that we do not attempt to work on here is the
"switch/case" indentation.
This fixes some minor glitches with buttons:
* Movement of the organization-settings-parent block on the
appearance of widgets.
* Large and odd look of save button.
* Use of fadeIn and fadeOut rather than changing opacity as
opacity don't actually remove them.
This is because we cover the case of `realm_allow_message_editing` by
`realm_msg_edit_limit_setting` after the conversion into dropdown.
This commit also contains a minor variable renaming.
Add realm setting to set time limit for message deleitng.
Set default value of message_content_delete_limit_seconds
to 600 seconds(10 min).

This coverts the "checkbox" for `realm_allow_message_editing` and
"input" for `realm_message_content_edit_limit_seconds` into a
dropdown with the option for custom time limit option.
This commit changes the way the save and discard buttons on the
organization profile, settings and permissions tabs look and fades
them out after a delay. It also cleans up the code a bit in the
settings_org.js file. It introduces changes to the css in
settings.css as well as the template for save-discard buttons.
It also fixes a bug on the user settings whereby if an option
that requires reload is clicked before clicking an option that does
not require reload, the reload message is erased. This could create
an issue where the user is not aware that a reload is required.
The loader is also changed to using fa-icon as loading spinner on
user settings and the colors are tweaked a little bit.
This splits "Language and notifications" section into "Default user
settings" and "Notifications".
With this, we can easily add other default user settings in the
same place.
In our new system for updating realm settings, we don't need to create
separate functions to update the input elements for each feature.
Most of the work is done automatically by
`settings_org.sync_realm_settings`.
We are having a same code in `render_notifications_stream_ui`
and `render_signup_notifications_stream_ui` functions aside from
the HTML element. So this commit will remove the duplicate code in
`render_signup_notifications_stream_ui` and make use of
`render_notifications_stream_ui`.
Fixes#8886.
This fixes a minor bug in which the value of `input` element of
`realm_waiting_period_threshold` don't get updated because in
`set_create_stream_permission_dropdwon` we don't change the
value of the input.
So, this minor refactor handles this more carefully.
This moves `sync_realm_settings` function out of `_setup` so that
we can call `settings_org.sync_realm_settings` without opening
settings page at least once.
This also fixes a minor bug in which if we have two tabs opened and
in one we haven't opened settings page at least once and in
another we change an org setting, then we get an exception in
the former tab because of the event as `sync_realm_settings`
isn't defined yet.
Changing the selected value of dropdown by `val` has more advantage
over `attr` especially in the case when dropdown value is chnaged
multiple times like due to events and discarding changes.
Though it is applicable to other elements but in this commit it is just
used for `id_realm_create_stream_permission` dropdown.

Since we don't have any string needed to be translated in
property_types we can move it outside `_setup` function to
get to the safe side if they needed to get accessed before
`_setup` is called.
With this we have the same way to save changes done in org profile
subsection, i.e. show "Save" button beside header of subsection,
add "Discard changes" button for org profile subsection and
show "Save" and "Discard" button only when needed.
Also, there is so much code which become obsolete which is removed
in this commit.
This replaces the previous logic of triggering change() event.
(Also, when we trigger the change() event whole path for detecting
changes in a subsection are triggered which isn't good.)
This makes use of `settings_ui.disable_sub_setting_onchange` for
handling dependent `id_realm_disallow_disposable_email_addresses`
checkbox when `id_realm_restricted_to_domain` is changed.
On discarding changes made for `realm_create_stream_permission` always
"by_admin_user_with_custom_time" get selected because
`create_stream_by_admins_only` isn't a valid page_param.
For forms that are built early in setting up the settings panel,
we don't want to attach multiple submit handlers every time we
go into the gear menu, so we use "off" to clear any old handlers.
We also attach handlers directly to the form, instead of
using delegation up to the container div.
Also, we remove unnecessary tips regarding modification settings.
Remove 'Only organization administrators can edit these settings'.
Remove 'Anyone in this organization can add user groups'.
Before this commit when we press enter in the text-input field the
first subsection get saved because a click event is triggered for
the first save button (of first subsection) irrespective of the
location of text input field in the whole form which is expected
as a default behavior of the forms.
The simple fix is to make the button of type "button" and override
action of "enter" in an input field.

This makes each subsection of org-permissions independent from the
perspective of saving changes.
All the behavior we have for org-settings are also ultimately
reflected here as well like individual "Save" button for each
subsection, "Discard" button for discarding changes done in a
subsection and appearance of this button only when required.
In the new function, property values are handled more carefully i.e.
we first check whether property_name refers to a property values
which we can't get from the value of input elements like we have in org
permissions section for properties like realm_add_emoji_by_admins_only
where we have used dropdown and hence we get a string value but we
expect a true/false (check/uncheck) value.
Also, it is better to trigger a `change` event after changing a value
because we have properties which are dependent on the values of another
settings. Previously we trigger `click` event for checkboxes but
there exist some settings other than checkboxes like dropdown
for realm_create_stream_permission where realm_waiting_period_threshold
only appears after selecting custom values for threshold value from
dropdown.
In this refactor property values are handled more carefully i.e.
we first check whether property_name refers to a property values
which we can't get from the input elements like we do have in org
permissions section for properties like realm_add_emoji_by_admins_only.
Small refactor in property_value_element_refers is to prevent many
return statements on further addition of property names.
This changes failed status element to use class
`.admin-realm-failed-change-status` rather than id so that we can use
the same code in `save_organization_settings()` in future to refer to
failed-status element of that section.
To keep click handler for "save" button clean, we extracted the
the `if` statements where we complete request data for certain fields
which aren't mentioned in `property_types`.
This will reset the changes done in a subsection to the current ones
in page_params.
It will only appear when there are some user-provided changes to be reset.
With this "Save" button is only shown when there are changes in a
subsection. This means if we changed a setting and reverted it back to
original ones, then, "Save" button will get disappear. Hence, we're shown
"Save" when there are some property changes to send to the server.
This makes each subsection(like "Message feed") independent of changes
done in any other subsection and the save button of each subsection
saves the changes done in that subsection only.
To populate data for requests limited to only selected input elements,
we have to extend `populate_data_for_request` for objects other
than `property_types`, e.g. now we can collect data only for user identity
by passing org_permissions.user_identity as changing_property_types.
This splits property types according to sections in
"Organization settings" viz. Organization settings, Organization
permissions, and Organization profile. Where org. settings and
org. permissions are further categorized according to the
subsections.
These changes are made to save changes for each subsection independently.
`update_message_topic_editing_pencil` function update edit
icon for message topic in message row header.
- Remove erroneous `meta.loaded` check.
- Add proper check of message editing permission in realm
before updating message-topic-edit-icon in function.
- Update `always-visible-topic-edit` element in function
simultaneously.
Rename `toggle_allow_message_editing_pencil` to
`update_message_topic_editing_pencil` in `settings_org.js`.
As this function update the pencil icon for updating message

We have some settings which are inter-dependent. If one setting
is checked or unchecked, it's dependent-sub-setting get disabled
or enabled. i.e. If user unchecked setting allow-message-editing
then message-editing-time-limit setting should get disabled in UI.
Add generic function to change disable attribute of sub settings
on checked or unchecked event of main setting in `settings_ui.js`.
Rather than having a toggle function that just flips the state, it's
more correct to have the state just be set to what it should be.
Also, we clean up the use of .attr() for a thing better accessed via
.prop().
We should probably rename the function at this point, but we save that
for a future commit.
This adds button under "Organization profile" settings, which
deactivates the organization and sends an "event" to all the
active user and log out them.
Fixes: #8212.
On the "Organization settings" page, we had two Save buttons
for admins that had identical markup. This was confusing for
people reading the code. Now the two buttons have different
markup and individual, targeted click handlers (albeit still
calling the same function to do most of the work).
The context of this fix is that I was debugging a
Casper flake where our Casper tests were essentially clicking
on the same button twice. Depending on the timing,
the second button click could cause a "No changes saved!"
behavior that confused the Casper test. It is unclear whether
Casper was clicking both buttons here (in which case this fix
is necessary) or the same button twice (in which case this fix
just removes a nasty red herring for debugging).
The code still has the flaw that both buttons basically submit
the same data to the server, despite the appearance on the page
that there are two forms. The best fix for that is probably
just to move the Language/Notifications stuff to another
panel. I wanted to avoid touching this code altogether, but
the minor modifications here were necessary to improve the
Capser testing situation.
To toggle email change display, replace display = None
to disabled = true.
Email field shouldn't be removed from settings, it should only
disabled if email changes are disabled in realm.
This commit adds a setting to limit creation of generic bots
to admins for realms that want that restriction. (Generic
bots, apart from being considered spammy on some realms,
have less locked down permissions than webhook bots).
Fixes#7066.
The list needs to be set to use perfectScrollbar so that it can
scroll due to the fact that it resides within another instance of
perfectScrollbar.

Use jQuery DOM construction methods, rather than string concatenation,
to keep things structured and to stay clear of the lint rules introduced
in ee6235d71.
If we use string concatenation to span i18n strings across multiple
lines then we end with such strings to be translated by the translators:

We should use variables in i18n strings to give proper context to the
translators. If the pattern is this:

The profile group (name, description, avatar) were split into a new
page that did not previously exist, and the permissions was stripped
of message settings (message editing, message feed), but keeping the
"waiting period" input and putting it in the "Streams & custom emoji"
section.
Fixes: #5844.
Using weird characters when filtering options items in these various
settings pages would throw exceptions whenever they didn't form a
valid regular expression.
This fixes a confusing bug where administrators would be offered the
convenient topic-edit pencil even if message editing was actually
disabled.
This doesn't yet fix the real-time sync issues of changing the setting
without reloading.
Fixes#5946.
This function no longer sets properties to false, so the supported
way of doing this is to instead use prop(foo, false). Some tests
had to be fixed to accommodate this.
In case the user was not allowed to upload an emoji, we were displaying
two different but sematically same tips. This commit merges them and
also updates `update_custom_emoji_ui()` function in settings_emoji.js
to live update tooltip.
This new setting controls whether or not users are allowed to see the
edit history in a Zulip organization. It controls access through 2
key mechanisms:
* For long-ago edited messages, get_messages removes the edit history
content from messages it sends to clients.
* For newly edited messages, clients are responsible for checking the
setting and not saving the edit history data. Since the webapp was
the only client displaying it before this change, this just required
some changes in message_events.js.
Significantly modified by tabbott to fix some logic bugs and add a
test.
The code now handles undefined stream_ids for realms that
don't have a notifications stream. It also removes unneeded
translation code on the stream name.
Added a dropdown in the organization settings page with a search-box and
required styles. Also added an element to disable it. Added a method to
populate the dropdown using list_rendering.js. Also altered response to
the event of deletion of the notifications stream on the frontend. On
selection of a new stream or on clicking 'Disable', a patch request is
made with stream-id to /json/realm.
Fixes: #3708.
Create property_types object for realm settings. In set_up function,
iterate over property_types to find settings that were updated, send those
new values to the server, and report that the changes were made.
Previously, the way the organization description textarea was
generated, there'd be a newline and ~12 spaces added each time on
reloaded the page and hit "save changes".
This change makes it so that the organization description only changes
when the user actually changes it.
Apparently, there were not correctly disabled if you clicked on
"authentication methods" after opening the settings UI another way.
Everything worked fine if you just clicked them, already.
We now wait to load Organization sections until you
click on the section (or virtually click by using arrow
keys).
Some of the sections are coupled in terms of their setup,
so some sections will already be loaded if you had clicked
on a related section.
This is mostly moving code, but we do add short-circuit logic
for some live-updating methods here.
Note that this affects two different sections of the admin app:
* Organization settings
* Authentication methods
We really want to move to one module per section, but there is some
legacy coupling that makes this difficult for now.
