It also updated all the svg to be optmized per new version.
This new version, since the last version contains bug fixes and improvement.

This also updates node_tests to use new constructor which is uppercase,
and some properties that are changed to be more clear now, like
jsdom().defaultView which is meant to the window object is now called window.

This new version is a lot ahead that what we now have currently.
Reading through the changelog there does not seem to any breaking
changes, just that this package have been updated a lot.

This commit removes the flash on unstyled content while in dev
mode that was caused by the use of style-loader. Instead it
enables mini-css-extract-plugin in dev in combination with
css-hot-loader which enables HMR for development.
This is because mini-css-extract-plugin does not currently support
HMR out of the box. It also adds a SourceMapDevtoolPlugin to enable
sourcemaps with css since mini-css breaks sourcemaps when used in
combination with the cheap-module-evel-source-map setting.

Upgrade webpack to latest version at the time of authoring. This
involves upgrading webpack version and its loaders to compatible
versions. It also involved editing tools/webpack to use the
executable for webpack-cli instead because of a change in how the
webpack package wants you to handle shell execution.
It also fixes the confugration for TypeScript in the webpack config
as that was previously broken. Including TypeScript files in JS
files compiled by webpack now works.
String.prototype.endsWith is not supported in ie11.
Adds string.prototype.endswith package to dependencies and places
it at `common` entry point in webpack.assets.json.
Fixes#8944.
Adds string.prototype.startswith package to dependencies and places
it at `common` entry point in webpack.assets.json. As common.js is
loaded on all code paths first, there is no need to place this package
into other entry points.
Update perfect-scrollbar to fix stutter space-scrolling in #8544. Also
reworked deprecated `element.perfectScrollbar` to `new
PerfectScrollbar(element)`. Lastly, updated provision version and
changed node module path to new path.
This also refactors perfect-scrollbar in help.js to work with updated
version of perfect-scrollbar. Because the update also changed
perfect-scrollbar's css selectors for all scrollbars in zulip, we
update those too.
Fixes#8544.
This commit switches our emoji infrastructure to use 256 color indexed
64px spritesheets. Earlier we were using non-indexed 32px spritesheets
which were blurry on high dpi displays. These indexed spritesheets not
only provide a crispier display but are also smaller in size.
This commit also removes the `emoji-datasource` package as a dependency
as all the data is now sourced from individual datasource packages.
Fixes: #7862.
Also adds a custom rule to eslint. Since the recommended way of extending
eslint is to create plugins as standalone npm packages, the separate rule
is published as 'eslint-plugins-empty-returns'.
Fixes#8669.
We introduced this a couple of commits ago (in #7782) for use in the
tests only. Putting it here avoids pulling in a new dependency in
production which we don't use there.
This uses the to-markdown.js library to do all the hard work of
parsing HTML and turning it into markdown and not e.g. uploaded files.
Tweaked by tabbott to better scope when it activates to just include
pastes of HTML content.
Fixes#5853.
This change prepares us to have the server send avatar_url
of None when somebody wants a gravatar avatar (as opposed
to a user-uploaded one).
Subsequent commits will change behavior on both the server
and client to have this happen. So this commit has no-op
code for now, but it will soon use the fallback-to-gravatar
logic.
This reverts commit a01eb190d6.
We haven't debugged why yet, but this was causing 2 major problems:
* Misalignment in the floating recipient bar area.
* Missing scrollbar in the right sidebar.
This commit does the following things:
* Instead of using a manual tool for downloading sprite sheets, use
`emoji-datasource` npm package.
* Modify the `build_emoji` script to use sprite sheets from the npm
package.
Bumps PROVISION_VERSION.
Fixes: #4730.
- Remove `perfect-scrollbar` from `static/third` and fetch it from npm.
- Upgrade `perfect-scrollbar` to 0.7.1.
- Bump up the `PROVISION_VERSION` to 5.6.
Changed `wheelSpeed` in "static/js/scroll_bar.js" to 0.5, because when it
20, the scrollbar scrolls very fast.
Changed 'wheelSpeed' in "static/js/emoji_picker.js" from 25 to 0.68
(based on tabbott's testing of scrolling through the emoji list).
Part of #1709.
We were at 1.12.1. Versions 1.12 and 2.2 have the same API, and
2.x basically removes some compatibility for old browser versions.
2.2.3 was the last bug release for 2.2, and it was released in
April 2016.
- Remove `handlebars.runtime.js` from static/third and fetch it from npm
- Upgrade `handlebars` to 3.0.3.
I change the test since there is a patch about line, written in
handlebars'
v2.0.0-beta.1 release note:
"Lines containing only block statements and whitespace are now removed."
Fixes part of #1709.
Apparently, the updated version of this has a serious scrolling
performance problem in the left sidebar that basically makes scrolling
in that area unusable.
This reverts commit b683b2d3c3.
- Remove `jquery-mousewheel` from `static/third` and fetch it from npm.
- Upgrade `jquery-mousewheel` to 3.1.6.
- Bump up the `PROVISION_VERSION` to 4.5.
- Change some js code to comply with this `jquery-mousewheel` version.

This reverts commit 7bf10ec74f.
Apparently, SockJS 1.1.1 is broken with the browser used in our legacy
desktop app, resulting in messages being silently not sent.
- Replace download-zxcvbn with downloading it from npm.
- Change zxcvbn.js path to node_modules (because npm put it to
`node_modules` directory.
- Bump `PROVISION_VERSION` in `version.py` to 2.4.
Fixes#2423.
This commit adds a basic eslintrc that emulates jslint defaults.
Rules that conflict with our existing code have been switched to
warnings instead of errors. Globals have been added to the eslintrc. The
bundled js file (generated by webpack) and blueslip.js are ignored with
.eslintignore.
To display warnings, run npm run lint-loud. This runs eslint without the
--quiet option on static/js and frontend_tests.
npm run --silent lint is run by tools/lint-all (in addition to jslint).
The --silent option is used to suppress the default output from npm run.
Fixes#535.
(Most of this work was done by acrefoot in an earlier branch.
I took over the branch to fix casper tests that were broken during
the upgrade (which were fixed in a different commit). I also
made most of the changes to run-casper.)
This also upgrades phantomjs to 2.1.7.
The huge structural change here is that we no longer vendor casperjs
or download phantomjs with our own script. Instead, we just use
casperjs and phantomjs from npm, via package.json.
Another thing that we do now is run casperjs tests individually, so
that we don't get strange test flakes from test interactions. (Tests
can still influence each other in terms of changing data, since we
don't yet have code to clear the test database in between tests.)
A lot of this diff is just removing files and obsolete configurations.
The main new piece is in package.json, which causes npm to install the
new version.
Also, run-casper now runs files individually, as mentioned above.
We had vendored casperjs in the past. I didn't bring over any of our
changes. Some of the changes were performance-related (primarily
5fd58cf249), so the upgraded version may
be slower in some instances. (I didn't do much measurement of that,
since most of our slowness when running tests is about the setup
environment, not casper itself.) Any bug fixes that we may have
implemented in the past were either magically fixed by changes to
casper itself or by improvements we have made in the tests themselves
over the years.
Tim tested the Casper suite on his machine and running the full Casper
test suite is faster than it was before this change (1m30 vs. 1m50),
so we're at least not regressing overall performance.
NVM takes a specific node version and installs the node package and
a corresponding compatible npm package.
We use it in a somewhat hackish way to install node/npm globally with
a pinned version, since that's how we actually want to consume node in
our development environment.
Other details:
- Travis CI now is configured to use the version of node installed by
provision; the easiest way to do this was to sabotage the existing node
installation.
- jsdom is upgraded to a current version, which both requires recent
node and also is required for the tests to pass with recent node.
This fixes running the node tests on Xenial.
Fixes#1498.
[tweaked by tabbott]
This reverts commit be93b6ea28.
Unfortunately, the newer jquery comes with a huge performance
regression affecting the hotkeys code, which has the effect of making
typing super slow.
Fixes: #1449.
`tools/test-js-with-node cover` needs istanbul to be installed in
order to work; we might as well install it by default rather than
having it be an extra step users need to deal with.
Of course, since this is only needed in the development environment,
this could suggest we want to fork/conditionalize package.json, but I
think for now it's reasonable to just install everything we use
somewhere -- the npm list is still pretty short and we have that issue
anyway with webpack-dev-server.
The node packages 'jQuery' and 'jquery' are different--'jQuery' is the
legacy support package that is needed for Zulip so the require statements
in the tests were updated.
Travis uses node 4.0 by default and we are using 0.10, so the command to
install the correct version had to be added to the .travis.yml file.
