The deleted CSS around the `.zulip-icon-ellipsis-v-solid` class
has no impact on the hover controls, as flexbox and grid are
handling baseline alignment, not this one-off line-height.
While an en dash--as replaced here with a hyphen--is sounder
typographically, the other ranges in the file use a hyphen, which
is arguably also more interoperable in a plain-text file such as
this (though other en dashes live on in the file, as part of the
original licensing text).
This makes all shortened forms of "incorporated" uniform across
the file, and matches how "Twitter, Inc." is presented in the files
in question, e.g., atop `web/third/bootstrap/js/bootstrap.js`.
Added unmute.svg in web/shared/icons. Also added
source and license information for the icon in
docs/THIRDPARTY.
Additionally, used unmute icon for unmute option in
topic_sidebar menu for topics in muted stream.
Fixes#25124
We currently use the GitHub logo to show the bots settings in both
personal and organization settings. This icon is not a correct
representation since we use have support for several different bots
including but not limited to a GitHub integration bot.
This commit replaces the GitHub logo with Smart Toy material icon
from Google, while also adding the required licencing details at
docs/THIRDPARTY.
Part of #19797.
This adds a new search icon which we prefer over the one made
available from bootstrap, and replaces search icons in navbar
search with the Ionic icon.
Ever since we started bundling the app with webpack, there’s been less
and less overlap between our ‘static’ directory (files belonging to
the frontend app) and Django’s interpretation of the ‘static’
directory (files served directly to the web).
Split the app out to its own ‘web’ directory outside of ‘static’, and
remove all the custom collectstatic --ignore rules. This makes it
much clearer what’s actually being served to the web, and what’s being
bundled by webpack. It also shrinks the release tarball by 3%.

Since python-debian is GPL licensed, our script that imports it should
arguably be GPL licensed as well.

Our current EC2 systems don’t have an interface named ‘eth0’, and if
they did, this script would do nothing but crash with ImportError
because we have never installed boto.utils for Python 3.
(The message of commit 2a4d851a7c made
an effort to document for future researchers why this script should
not have been blindly converted to Python 3. However, commit
2dc6d09c2a (#14278) was evidently
unresearched and untested.)

This revised globe icon avoids looking like a "language choice" icon
(as the previous one did), while still being recognizably Earth (and
not a disk with some things drawn on it) and not showing only North
America (a flaw with the Font Awesome 4.7 icon).
Used a derivative of icon from
https://unpkg.com/ionicons@5.5.2/dist/svg/earth.svg
with modified outline by Vlad Korobov.
Using puppet modules from the puppet forge judiciously will allow us
to simplify the configuration somewhat; this specifically pulls in the
stdlib module, which we were already using parts of.
Follow up to #14768. This feature was already non-functional due to
.alert-display { display: none; }, and if we want to reimplement it,
we should do it using a modern library.

We don't modify bootstrap.js here but override its popover and
tooltip plugins. In future we will not import these plugins
via npm. We also copy all the popover code from bootstrap.css v2.1.1
to popovers.scss since all the code in bootstrap-tooltip.js is
based upon this css or vice versa.
Update THIRDPARTY info about bootstrap libraries.
There were 4 types of changes to bootstrap.js - bugfixes, file
moves, changes to typeahead plugin and changes to tooltip +
popover plugin.
Bugfixes were automatically fixed when upgrading to v2.3.2, file
moves are irrelevant to this upgrade and the plugins were
extracted into separate files.

We merge bootstrap-responsive.css into bootsrap.css since that is
how bootstrap distributes it from this version onwards.
bootstrap.js has a lot of changes to it which completely breaks
our typeaheads and popovers, so we will have to override these
plugins with our version of these plugins. In future versions
of bootstrap when we use npm, we can just choose not to
import them.
This commit is first of few commita which aim to change all the
bugdown references to markdown. This commits rename the files,
file path mentions and change the imports.
Variables and other references to bugdown will be renamed in susequent
commits.
65774e1c4f switched from using the bundled check_postgres.pl to using
the version from packages; the file itself remained, however.
Remove it, and clean up references to it.
Fixes#15389.
This is a prep commit for replacement of chevron
from sidebars.
This commit will add ellipsis-v icon in svg format downloaded
from font-awesome 5. This has to be done because font-awesome 4.7
(the version we are using) does not have this icon with
circular dots.
And font-awesome 5 as a whole doesn't make sense to upgrade to because
it's intentionally semi-crippled as part of their business plan.
Also include entry in THIRDYPARTY and Licence details.
We're migrating to using the cleaner zulip.com domain, which involves
changing all of our links from ReadTheDocs and other places to point
to the cleaner URL.
Zulip has had a small use of WebSockets (specifically, for the code
path of sending messages, via the webapp only) since ~2013. We
originally added this use of WebSockets in the hope that the latency
benefits of doing so would allow us to avoid implementing a markdown
local echo; they were not. Further, HTTP/2 may have eliminated the
latency difference we hoped to exploit by using WebSockets in any
case.
While we’d originally imagined using WebSockets for other endpoints,
there was never a good justification for moving more components to the
WebSockets system.
This WebSockets code path had a lot of downsides/complexity,
including:
* The messy hack involving constructing an emulated request object to
hook into doing Django requests.
* The `message_senders` queue processor system, which increases RAM
needs and must be provisioned independently from the rest of the
server).
* A duplicate check_send_receive_time Nagios test specific to
WebSockets.
* The requirement for users to have their firewalls/NATs allow
WebSocket connections, and a setting to disable them for networks
where WebSockets don’t work.
* Dependencies on the SockJS family of libraries, which has at times
been poorly maintained, and periodically throws random JavaScript
exceptions in our production environments without a deep enough
traceback to effectively investigate.
* A total of about 1600 lines of our code related to the feature.
* Increased load on the Tornado system, especially around a Zulip
server restart, and especially for large installations like
zulipchat.com, resulting in extra delay before messages can be sent
again.
As detailed in
https://github.com/zulip/zulip/pull/12862#issuecomment-536152397, it
appears that removing WebSockets moderately increases the time it
takes for the `send_message` API query to return from the server, but
does not significantly change the time between when a message is sent
and when it is received by clients. We don’t understand the reason
for that change (suggesting the possibility of a measurement error),
and even if it is a real change, we consider that potential small
latency regression to be acceptable.
If we later want WebSockets, we’ll likely want to just use Django
Channels.

(0ea770fc18) had already been fixed upstream,
and another was just handling jQuery deprecation warnings for not yet removed features.

Bootstrap's typeahead is the main part of the project that we've
forked, and moving it to its own module should help unlock our ability
to upgrade bootstrap itself.
This commit works by vendoring the couple functions we still use from
puppetlabs stdlib (join and range), but removing the rest of the
puppetlabs codebase, and of course cleaning up our linter rules in the
process.
Fixes#7423.
Also, add a new notification sound, "ding". It comes from
https://freesound.org, where the original Zulip notification sound comes
from as well. In the future, new sounds can be added by adding audio
files to the `static/audio/notification_sounds` directory.
Tweaked significantly by tabbott:
* Avoided removing static/audio/zulip.ogg, because that file is
checked for by old versions of the desktop app.
* Added a views check for the sound being valid + tests.
* Added additional tests.
* Restructured the test_events test to be cleaner.
* Removed check_bool_or_string.
* Increased max length of notification_sound.
* Provide available_notification_sounds in events data set if global
notifications settings are requested.
