In 1fce1c3c73, we added logic to parse
the User-Agent in /register requests; this logic crashed if an HTTP request
was missing that header.
Includes a test for `/register` with no user agent passed; this should catch
similar regressions in the future.

Previously, test cases or clients accessing /json/ views using HTTP
Basic Auth would be accepted, while we intended to only allow clients
authenticated with a session cookie to access these views.
This adds a check on the accessed path to avoid this possibility.
It seems unlikely that any API clients clients were taking advantage
of this unintended quirk; so we're not going to bother documenting
this bug fix as an API change. In any case, it should be trivial for
anyone affected to consult the documentation and then switch their
/json/foo URL to a correct /api/v1/foo URL.

Mobile clients older than v27.192 do not support PRONOUNS type
custom profile fields, so we instead change the type of it to
SHORT_TEXT in the data sent with register response and also in
the events sent to those clients.
This adds a helper based on testing patterns of using the "queries_captured"
context manager with "assert_length" to check the number of queries
executed for preventing performance regression.
It explains the rationale of checking the query count through an
"AssertionError" and prints the queries captured as assert_length does,
but with a format optimized for displaying the queries in a more
readable manner.

Unfortunately, doing so requires forking common API documentation
text, since we're not making any changes to other endpoints that don't
allow unauthenticated requests at all.
Follow-up on #21995.
This implements get_mandatory_secret that ensures SHARED_SECRET is
set when we hit zerver.decorator.authenticate_notify. To avoid getting
ZulipSettingsError when setting up the secrets, we set an environment
variable DISABLE_MANDATORY_SECRET_CHECK to skip the check and default
its value to an empty string.

We now send a new user_topic event while muting and unmuting topics.
fetch_initial_state_data now returns an additional user_topics array to
the client that will maintain the user-topic relationship data.
This will support any future addition of new features to modify the
relationship between a user-topic pair.
This commit adds the relevent backend code and schema for the new
event.
`context` as `AccessDeniedError` is incompatible with
`RequestVariableMissingError`. Mypy does not allow such redefinition.

Instead of using `request.POST` to access the `data` parameter used
in the internal `notify_tornado` path, adds `has_request_variables`
decorator and accesses `data` as a `REQ` parameter.
Expands `test_tornado_endpoint` in `test_event_system.py` for
`data` being a required parameter for this path.
It's hard to come up with a realistic story where this would matter:
SHARED_SECRET is generated automatically during server setup at the
same time as SECRET_KEY, which is a required setting, but it seems
preferable to be explicit that this is a required parameter for the
internal_notify authentication model.
A request that has went through the auth middleware shouldn't have
`.user` being `None`. We should use `AnonymousUser` by default to
represent unauthenticated users.

This is necessary for the mobile/terminal clients to build spectator
support down the line. We'll also be using it for the web application,
in an upcoming commit.
This commit changes the code to always pass delivery_email
field in the user's own object in 'realm_users'.
This commit also fixes the events sent by notify_created_user.
In the "realm_user/add" event sent when creating the user,
the delivery_email field was set according to the access
for the created user itself as the created user was passed as
acting_user to format_user_row. But now since we have changed
the code to always allow the user themselves to have access
to the email, this bug was caught in tests and we fix the person
object in the event to have delivery_email field based on whether
the user receiving the event has access to email or not.
This commit also adds 'subgroups' field to the user_group present
in the event sent on creating a user group. We do not allow passing
the subgroups while creating a user group as of this commit, but added
the field in the event object to pass tests.
From 430c5cb, in `fetch_initial_state_data`,
we only include legacy settings in the top level of
`state` and the newer ones are stored in `state['user_settings']`.
That should've had a corresponding change in apply_event().
Also, fixed a test related to this logic.
This commit adds do_set_realm_user_default_setting which
will be used to change the realm-level defaults of settings
for new users.
We also add a new event type "realm_user_settings_defaults"
for these settings and a "realm_user_settings_default" object
in '/register' response containing all the realm-level default
settings.
We still used notification_setting_types in copy_user_settings
function of create_user.py and in a test in test_event_system.py.
It is not required to do so since we have added all settings in
property_types already and we loop over property_types at both
these places which includes all settings.
We added "user_settings" object containing all the user settings in
previous commit. This commit modifies the code to send the existing
setting fields in the top-level object only if user_settings_object
client_capabilities field is False.
Return zulip_merge_base alongside zulip_version
in `/register`, `/event` and `/server_settings`
endpoint so that the value can be used by other
clients.
Cross realm bots will soon stop being a thing. This param is responsible
for displaying "System Bot" in the user info popover - so this rename is the
right way to handle the situation.
We will likely want to rename the `cross_realm_bots` section as well,
but that is a more involved API migration.
Since do_create_realm also creates general and core team streams,
we rename general to verona right after the realm is created. Mostly
because we dont really want two additional streams and this might
probably make it easy to review things.
There are puppeteer test changes because, we have a new "core team"
stream in tests as well as there is a new default notification stream
"Verona". Because of this tests in message-basics for example have
to be changed since the newly added core team affects the order in
which we navigate through the streams using arrow keys.
The extra await for selector was added in subscriptions test to make
the tests wait. Without the await the tests were passing ocassionally
and failing in some other times.

optimization for organizations with thousands of users.

This help mobile and terminal clients understand whether a server
restart changed API feature levels or not, which in turn determines
whether they will need to resynchronize their data.
Also add tests and documentation for this previously undocumented
event type.
Fixes: #18205.
Event of type restart could not be handled properly, because of
its special behavior. For handling this event in most natural way
we recursively call `do_events_register` when restart event is
recieved, based on custom error created for this event.
Testing: Second call to get_user_events due to recursive calling
of do_event_register, is expected to not contain the restart event.
So new test added in test_event_system.py are based on above behavior
of get_user_events.

A bug in the implementation of the all_public_streams API feature
resulted in guest users being able to receive message traffic to public
streams that should have been only accessible to members of the
organization.
* This introduces a new event type `realm_linkifiers` and
a new key for the initial data fetch of the same name.
Newer clients will be expected to use these.
* Backwards compatibility is ensured by changing neither
the current event nor the /register key. The data which
these hold is the same as before, but internally, it is
generated by processing the `realm_linkifiers` data.
We send both the old and the new event types to clients
whenever the linkifiers are changed.
Older clients will simply ignore the new event type, and
vice versa.
* The `realm/filters:GET` endpoint (which returns tuples)
is currently used by none of the official Zulip clients.
This commit replaces it with `realm/linkifiers:GET` which
returns data in the new dictionary format.
TODO: Update the `get_realm_filters` method in the API
bindings, to hit this new URL instead of the old one.
* This also updates the webapp frontend to use the newer
events and keys.
We send the whole data set as a part of the event rather than
doing an add/remove operation for couple of reasons:
* This would make the client logic simpler.
* The playground data is small enough for us to not worry
about performance.
Tweaked both `fetch_initial_state_data` and `apply_events` to
handle the new playground event.
Tests added to validate the event matches the expected schema.
Documented realm_playgrounds sections inside /events and
/register to support our openapi validation system in test_events.
Tweaked other tests like test_event_system.py and test_home.py
to account for the new event being generated.
Lastly, documented the changes to the API endpoints in
api/changelog.md and bumped API_FEATURE_LEVEL.
Tweaked by tabbott to add an `id` field in RealmPlayground objects
sent to clients, which is essential to sending the API request to
remove one.
Adds backend code for the mute users feature.
This is just infrastructure work (database
interactions, helpers, tests, events, API docs
etc) and does not involve any behavioral/semantic
aspects of muted users.
Adds POST and DELETE endpoints, to keep the
URL scheme mostly consistent in terms of `users/me`.
TODOs:
1. Add tests for exporting `zulip_muteduser` database table.
2. Add dedicated methods to python-zulip-api to be used
in place of the current `client.call_endpoint` implementation.
We use GIPHY web SDK to create popover containing GIFs in a
grid format. Simply clicking on the GIFs will insert the GIF in the compose
box.
We add GIPHY logo to compose box action icons which opens the GIPHY
picker popover containing GIFs with "Powered by GIPHY"
attribution.
