# Open the compose box
user docs: Add a bunch of "getting started" content.

The Zulip compose box starts off closed by default, leaving more vertical
space for the message feed. There are a number of ways to open the compose box.

* Click on **Message...**, **New topic**, or **New private message** at the
help-docs: Standardize on "corner of the app" instead of "...screen". The phrasing "corner of the screen" wouldn't be accurate when the user is doing a split screen or if the window or app is not taking up the whole screen. Also, the use of "lower/upper" and "top/bottom" is not consistent. This standardizes on "corner of the app" and "bottom/top" when referring to the location of app features on Desktop, Web, or Mobile.

You can move the blue box around using the **arrow keys**, `j`, or `k`. You
can close the compose box using `Esc`, or up/down arrow if the box is empty.

box closed, there is no need to use the `Ctrl` key all the time.
